DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

ED tracker diy not responding

Well, soldered together the tracker with the custom PCB and components from Hobby Components. Steady lights on both the Arduino and 9150 boards, but no blinking lights. Able to flash arduino with GUI, but no response from the gyros or magnetometer. I assume the 9150 is bad, as by visual inspection the solder joints are good. Will probably remove and resolder the board to make sure. Any other ideas/options?

Thanks in advance.

Worth trying the 6050 firmware (2.20.7) in it just to see if it's consistent.
Also check the USB Game Controllers for movement in the "joystick", rules out a GUI/serial issue.
Final last-ditch efforts would be to just verify on another PC, but kind of clutching at straws at that level - but I have seen a number of cases where COM ports or HID (joystick) device drivers are just borked on one windows PC, but trying the device on another it just works :(
It's not the button held down is it? Always catches a few people out ;)

Thanks. Will check out the other software. Other joysticks are working well, so that probably isn't the problem, I think. What should happen to the lights when the button is pressed, anything? It's not the button being held down, but maybe a bad switch?

On the 9150, the orange light should be flashing during operation (fast during gyro calibration on startup, then slow for normal operation). When you press the button it just stops flashing (ie. stays in it's current state) for a few seconds tops while it re-centres, then should carry on flashing.

I say orange, that's typically the colour, but obviously variations on Pro Micro clones could mean that's different.

Thanks for the help. Resolved the issue by resoldering the 9150 board. Must have had a bad connection that I wasn't seeing on visual inspection. Now is responding as expected. The knowledge about the lights was useful.

Something my dad told me once is if the soldier is dull looking its not a good connection, it should be shiny, but even that is not 100% certain some times.

It's been a while since my last soldering project, so I definitely was sub par on my quality control. Even under a microscope, the connections appeared solid, but obviously this was not the case. The connections even tested out for continuity between the board and the headers underneath, so I don't know what happened really. Just had nothing to lose by resoldering, and it worked. Sometimes its better to be lucky than good. :)

Eveytime i run my edtracker i have to redo the auto gyro bias, else my gyro will just keep going everywhere?? I am running 8150 with the v4.0.1 UI and driver. It will fixate on some random point when i try to turn my head, and eventually it will get stuck at 180.

Do you turn it off/unplug it between uses? That will cause this - best thing to do is never unplug it, assuming your PC keeps the USB ports powered during standy/off. There's a 4.0.2 version due out very, very soon that fixes some bugs around orientation and mag wrapping.

We have caught up a lot from the christmas rush and truth be told orders are looking set to be fulfilled within 2 weeks, possibly even a week now, unless we suddenly get a big burst! I'll leave the statements on the website about 2 to 3 weeks for a while, just so we can be sure we keep up, before I change them...

With regards the smoothing slider within the gui, is it just me or does it do very little until you put is to 99%? I really can't see any difference between 0-97% then 98% is a bit and 99% is slow motion. Am I doing it wrong?

Hi guys, I’ve been testing my EDTracker together with Opentrack and a flight sim “Falcon BMS”
the computer Isn’t the best in the world (lap-top), sometimes tracking gets stuck at 180 and I have to restart everything,

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not the EDTracker that’s faulty, its Opentrack!
when in game and doing lots of heavy head shifting the view will stick at 180 degrees, I close the game just to find that Opentrack has frozen and EDTracker is still working just fine, restart Opentrack and everything works good again.

Opentrack by its self works OK and the Flight sim by its self is also fine (I know the flight sim is very demanding)
The conclusion is, overload everything and it’s Opentrack that go’s down first.

after I switch off a lot of special effects in game then Opentrack can start to keep up.

PS: don’t jump to the conclusion that it’s always EDTracker that’s at fault..............

PS PS: I did say this was a crappy computer (some times a crappy computers is good at finding bugs).

Can anyone help me with this?
I'm running windows 7 64bit, but when opening edtracker the GUI is appearing as in the picture, it has a crosshairs down the bottom left corner.
Also it will connect and flash ok, then say connected in the head section, but will not do anything else like in the documents or video files. It just says "NOT CONNECTED" at the top of the screen when it has flashed fine...
I'm using the 9150 version as supplied by edtracker (not built myself)

This does the same on both of my Win 7 64bit machines.

can anyone help please.

Try unplug of device, close down GUI, re-plug device, re-start GUI. 9150 pauses for 10 to 20 seconds while it calibrates after initial plugging-in, so you might have to wait a short while. I've suggested we modify the GUI so it somehow warns people the device is "calibrating" so people don't think it's not connected... maybe a future revision soon ;-)

Thanks for the quick reply.
I've tried all combinations of unplugging/plugging in/restarting but the GUI always comes up with the crosshairs as in the picture and does nothing else once flashed. It does say connected by the head picture, but nowhere else.

I've downloaded fresh installs on both computers, but the GUI always shows up weird (not like in the manuals). I've tried running as administrator, running in safe mode, but all with the same results :(
