Something I thought of today: India animal dlc. But then I did some thinking.
India has a good selection of animals, we have gotten a lot from base game as well as every now and then from other dlc. I found it odd that the sloth bear was added in Eurasia despite the theme. Caracals and others found their way in via biome dlcs.
Other Indian animals I can think of are
Honey badger
Indian leopard
Golden jackal
Guar
Onager
Gray langur
Great Indian bustard
Indian cobra
Now majority of those are not all that popular on wishlists, some of them are. Do you think frontier would consider an India dlc or squeeze them in with miscellaneous dlc?
I was hoping for an India pack up until the sloth bear was added. It was pretty key for most variations of my South Asia Animal packs. I don't think this pack would go over well with most people, but I like some of the animals. The blackbuck and cobra seem to be essential to most people. There is also somewhat high demand for the grey langur or lion-tailed macaque, and I could see room for both. Given that India already has a scenery set, it would have to be an animal pack. That leaves four or five slots.
I think the wide range and meme-status of the honey badger makes it a very solid pick, bordering on essential. After that, I would consider the badger-like mustelids done. That leaves four habitat animal slots. Unless we get over 50 addional animals, there isn't much else that I would prioritze from India, but I would be happy to buy more if support continues that long.
The gaur and onager aren't bad, and I'd be happy to buy both of them. However, the guar overlaps with the water buffalo, and the onager seems like a mix of the wild horse and wild ass already in the game. The nilgai is more popular and unique, so I think most people would prefer it as the second ungulate. Also, there is some demand for more deer, so the chital, northern red muntjac, sambar deer, barasingha, and hog deer all seem possible.
I think the leopard and jackal would best come to the game as mods. I don't think people would have the patience for
another leopard subspecies even if it is a good one. Fishing cats are pretty cool as far as cats go from the region. I mostly am waiting on the serval and ocelot/margay, but the fishing cat is the very next one I'd add. Civets and mongooses would be unique eventually, but I don't see them as a priority at the moment. The golden jackal is not high on my list of canine priorities. Frankly, I don't see any of the remaining canines as essential, but there are a few I'd be willing to pay for or even personally excited to see if we got 20+ more animals. The raccoon dog, bush dog, grey fox, and bat-eared fox are more distinct and popular options from other subtribes. Within Canini, I mostly see options for mods, and 3 standouts that are somewhat different. True jackals interest me the most. They are the most distinct, and 'jackal' is an ABC animal even if it has very little zoo presence. Coyotes are the most popular of the 3, with a large range and zoo presence in NA. They are also known from Looney Tunes and indigenous peoples' stories. I think golden jackals come up mostly for their limited range in Europe, but their numbers are low on Zootierliste among the numerous European zoos. Also, India already has the dhole. I might consider downloading a mod for golden jackals or the nostalgic Ethiopean wolves, but that is the extent of my interest in them.
Hornbills are the main birds from India that I wish for. Bustards aren't bad for potential habitat options, and I also like painted storks, bar-headed geese, and demoiselle cranes for that type of slot. I'd probably go with the crane if I had to pick one, but a goose model could be useful for mods.
I think there is more than enough for a nice Indian animal pack someday, but it is not a priority for me at the moment. If I were to make one right now, I'd include the blackbuck, nilgai, fishing cat, grey langur, lion tailed macaque (or perhaps another bird), honey badger, crane, and cobra.
