DLC 19 Speculation

They did not include any animal from the very top of the list since Oceania/Eurasia - Tasmanian devil/Wolverine (2023)

1Secretary Bird22834.60
2South American Coati21232.17
3Walrus20831.56
4Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo20330.80
5Black Howler Monkey19028.83

And also ommited two most wanted South American animals.
I thought the baboon and the spec bear were on the top 5 of the list by the time the ZK pack came out.

I for sure didn't remember the walrus being that high...

Baboon was on 7th place and bear on 14th

I'm growing more and more convinced that they're intentionally avoiding adding some of the most requested animals either because they want to save stuff for a potential sequel. Like, I imagine they could have very easily added the Howler Monkey instead of the Saki, I can't imagine it would be that difficult, but they didn't. They have technically added another South American primate, which people have been clamoring for, but not the most requested one, which is odd. Same goes for South American species in general, they did hit a lot of requested ones like the Ocelot and the Rhea, but not the ones highest on most lists like the Mara or the Coati.

My guess is that they're trying to meet peoples' wishes (South American animals, birds, primates) enough to get sales, but not enough to where they won't have anything enticing to sell the next game.

(Or they're just doing the bare minimum due to having less staff but still having the ability to make profit off the game, and a potential sequel isn't even a factor. Which is probably the case.)

It makes perfect sense.
But I really hope it won’t be the case.
At this point I really need only couple of animals: coati & pelican plus of course the Père David’s deer 🦌

Honestly I was OK finishing the game in Zookeepers, so anything coming our way is more than welcome for me. I'm actually quite happy we got the chance to at least get a bunch more South American species from this pack, that's what I wanted from it and that's what I got. If we got a coati it would have become one of the best animal packs in the game, but as it is I think it's a pretty cool one.

By the way: I am okay with the Saki (would have prefered a Squirrel Monkey), unless they get tze sexual dimorphism wrong.
The reason I think we didn't get the howler is that it would have required sound work. They must have fired the whole sound department. What was their strong suit once and my favourite thing about the game just vanished.

So here is the southamerican roster right now

Baird's tapir
Llama
Alpaca
Collared peccary
White faced capuchin monkey
Saki monkey
Bush dog
Maned wolf
Ocelot
Puma
Jaguar
Spectacled bear
Capybara
Nine banded armadillo
Giant anteater
Three toed sloth
Greater rhea
American flamingo
Spectacled caiman
Cuvier's dwarf caiman

What i feel is essential and still missing

Coati
Mara
Green anaconda

What i think are super important and would add a lot to expand the variety:

Brazilian tapir
Guanaco
Tamandua
Agouti
Roseate spoonbill
Scarlet ibis
Burrowing owl

And what i think would make great oddball aditions:

Brazilian porcupine
Giant armadillo
Southern screamer
White faced whislitng duck
Pudu
Marsh deer
Tegu
Arrau rivera turtle

The big outliers for me in South America now would be:
  • Coati
  • Mara
  • Agouti
  • 2 more monkeys
  • Another arboreal oddball like Brazilian Porcupine or Tamandua
  • Ibis or Spoonbill
  • Whistling Duck
  • Another reptile like the Tegu

Animals I like but would be happy without:
  • Kinkajou
  • Guanaco/Vicuna
  • Pudu
  • Even more monkeys

also after watching a few update videos and reading some comments here are some hot takes.
  • Most people not here have actually said nothing about the coati.
  • people unsurprisingly are calling the rhea an ostrich
  • people absolutely love the ocelot literally saving the pack for one of the reviewers I watched.
  • people dont actually want another monkey a good handful made some sort of upset comment about it that wasnt make it another one. Someone even straight up called the concept of monkeys a wasted clone.
  • coyote is truly the most controversial pic
  • sheep and flamingo are just not talked about outside of general clone spam
  • bush dog is getting a pretty neutral or absent reaction
You must have watche some people with quite interesting taste

I would think the next update for the fall could have at least that for Chinese pangolins to climb trees, and an arboreal animal pack which includes a spider monkey, squirrel monkey, coatimundi, tree kangaroo, and three more.

I have had a feeling for a while now that since grasslands they have intentionally only been making mid tier packs because they want to ensure that future dlc still have animals that will sell the packs that's why we get 1-2 requested and mostly middle tier animals which are fairly well known or approximation for what we want.
Because while at the start they could afford the luxury of every animal being a heavy hitter like north america animal pack we are slowly entering an era where things are becoming more obscure and they have to balance a new line between whats publicly known whats practical for zoos and what looks cool.

I have an even stronger suspicion that zookeeper and this pack were largely unplanned or changed significantly from their original intentions.

So two sources that are not reliable nor the standard planet Zoo player.

I still trust YouTube, Instagram and Twitter more for players impressions.
Though I didnt explicitly say it there was at least 3 different youtube channels I red the comments from so not 2 sources I also did all of the reading at like 3 am so I was slightly dazed.

Honestly it is funny how my part of the US keeps getting more and more animals that is native to it, but I still haven’t built a “native zoo” because I got like 0 birds for me to use still.
  1. Wood Duck? Only in my dreams
  2. Mallard? Frontier doesn’t even know what a duck is!
  3. Wild Turkey? Nuh uh
  4. Trumpeter swan? Probably never
  5. Canadian goose? Nope
  6. Any seabirds at all? NOT GONNA HAPPEN
Obviously the lack of flying birds also excludes stuff like the great horned owl or bald eagle. Which features in a lot of “local” animal sections.
