DLC animal calculator

It’s not about leaving them out of their region/continental-themed areas.
It’s about acknowledging what extinct in the wild status actually means.

But it is - there’s a different category for conservation status. Distribution should be historic range, conservation status takes account of whether they’re endangered, extinct in the wild etc.

Poorly done in few minutes. Have other idea in mind atm.

Milu deer would get high score for distribution anyway, because its endemic to china. There is no doubt where it belongs.

If you really want to highlight its EW status then it should apply to conservation category, because thats whole point of it.
Doran I love your suggestions. Could you elaborate? I'd put it in the main post.

Imo what your proposed was good enough, simple 3 point category:
0 points - range completly overlap
1 points - partly shares range with family member
2 points - range dont overlap

No reason to make it complicated. Atleast one unique area compared to in game animal should be enough to make animal worthwhile.

About conservation category: just one more row above CR (5 points) for EW (6 points) species.

Let me give it a go for Saiga antelope -

  • Morphology: 2 - Very unique look
  • Biome: 1 - we have desert antelope but no saiga or temperate antelope
  • Distribution: 1 - We have bactrian camels and Przwalski's horses to represent the central Asian steppe but not much else
  • Conservation: 2 - Poor snufflenose are critically endangered
  • Popularity: 1 - I'd put 0, but they're relatively high on the meta list and I see their potential for becoming a meme animal in the future
  • Visual appeal: 2 - very unique and adorable looking
  • Rarity in zoos: 0 - they are currently kept in 2 zoos plus a handful of wild parks and were kept more extensively in the recent past which bumps them above something like the titan beetle which has never been kept or the Proboscis monkey which is only in one zoo, but I'll reasonable and put 0
  • Total: 9/14

Debatable. I can think of a few that could give it a run for its money, such as quokkas, rabbits, capybaras, seals, ducklings, sloths, and the human baby, to name a few.
Of course, that's also my personal preference. So just one point. Since I already deducted the personal. Not everyone finds the thick cuddly face as cute as I do.
But your examples don't touch me at all. (When you wrote Human Baby I was like, "What? Who thinks babies are cute?")

I guess I was trying to be a little funny. I think they're cute and cuddly too. They're just big ol' cuddly bois! Also, about the baby thing, I'm biased because my sister keeps posting pictures of her daughter, and it's too adorable!

Morphology - 2(No Parrots in PZ)
Habitat - 2(Again, no parrots in PZ)
Distribution - 2(Only SA bird we have is the King Penguin, and even then the King penguin lives in a different habitat)
Conservation - 0(Least Concern)
Popularity - 2(One of the most mainstream birds)
Visual Appeal - 2(Beautiful species of bird that can definitely be appealing)
Rarity in zoos - 2(157 holdings in European Union)
Total - 12/14

I like this calculator but:

Popularity: In this category, cows, chickens, dogs, cats, etc, deserves to be represented in PZ and Walrus, Tasmanian Devil, Platypus, Aardvark, etc don't deserves. This can't be right, please, fix. Unknow = deserves more, popular = deserves less, at least for me.

New category: Size.

Size: We Will can see the animal in PZ or it's too small to see from distance and you Will need zoom to see him?

Very Small/Smal: 0, to small to see without zoom. Maybe an exhibit animal.

Medium: 1, you see this animal without zoom.

Big: 2, You can se him from distance.

Some Animals in This Topic are realy, realy small, even for a exhibit. No way they can be a habitat animal.

New category: Behaviour.

The animal behaviour is enough for a habitat animal or they dont move for days, sleepy all time and are very boring to watch?

Maybe an exhibit animal: 0, they don't move, boring to watch, can't be a habitat animal.

Ok: 1, Don't move a lot but ok, can be a habitat animal.

Runs all day: 2, Very active, Fun to watch, perfect for habitats.

Even the famous sloths will made terrible habitats animals, they absolutely dont move for days, can't be habitats animals.

So the hypothetical perfect score (14/14) would be a charismatic endangered parrot with a strong captive presence, right? Something like an African grey parrot or blue-throated macaw.
