DLC18 discussion and predictions

Alright, after a few hours, I think I'm ready to make my final thoughts.

Firstly, I ordered the hula skirt 😞

I believe there's two ways of looking at this pack - one as a standalone animal pack, and the second as the final DLC.

As an animal pack, I think it really delivers. More than that, I think it's best roster since Grasslands. A huge amount of biodiversity in terms of species and geography, including a first with two primates, and highlighting alpine animals, a previously under-represented niche.

The three animals we saw all look superb. None - excluding the bear - were particularly high on my wishlist, but I know were considered essential by others, especially the baboon.

Where I luck out is the remaining four, three of which were on my original Top 25 Meta-wishlist concocted back in 2021 - the markhor, sifaka, and tortoise. Zoo Tycoon fans like myself are also elevated three legacy animals have finally made their way to PZ.

The dik-dik is the only one I'm ambivalent to.

All the scenery looks great, and is going to rely on flexicolor to make or break it imo.

Now...as a final DLC...this is where the issues start.

The biggest issue - and certainly not a surprise to anyone - is the frustratingly on-brand lack of birds. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more upset it makes me. I really feel a lot of my energy and time dedicated to cultivating the bird wishlist fell short and I kinda let the community down in regards, especially considering how the indisputable effect random goat's list made in the game.

This certainly isn't helped by the assumed inclusion of the secretary bird due the dictionary leak. The tree kangaroo and enchida are also pretty devastating exclusions.
Best case scenario, and this is really huffing the copium as the kids say, we get a final final deluxe pack at the end of the year, a la the komodo/gazelle/Moo Deng.

And another big thing for me, why the duck didn't they just make this a larger pack? 12 animals to get us to a nice, round 200? I think I speak for everyone that we'd happily pay $14.99 or whatever for a bigger send-off. Also no exhibit animal, like what lol

I think it's a bittersweet combination of not wanting the game to end, the overall lack of birds that will always hurt the game (which really could have taken a turn here if they gave us 2 or maybe 3) despite how great it is, and the wait of the presumed sequel - which I'm certain will finally have birds...but at what cost??? 😨😨😨

Ultimately, I feel like Frontier scaled up the church tower and tapped the bell, rather than give a proper ring. Still, I'll be in first in line to get 6 out of 7 really exciting animals....after I put the lei lei on.

Whaaat!? I did not know we had a celebrity in our midst! Haha how fabulous, I bet that was a fun tour! Do you do any other voice/puppet work? What a cool job!

It's nice having a bear about the house 🧡
Thank you!! And yes, I'm a professional voice actor/puppeteer having done commercials, video games - a lot of work on the Minecraft Marketplace, and even a pilot on Adult Swim. But besides Paddington, I think my biggest claim to fame was creating this viral hit back in 2020:

Yay, you played Paddington, that's wonderful! 😃😃😃

Thank you!! Marmalade all around!

If you look at the face itself just the pink part without any fluff it looks really good, especially love the eyes. Head fur also looks pretty good. My only problem is the body fluff, cause if you look at the fur on the right its almost just straight lines for a part of it, which it shouldn't be. Its too straight there should be more curly strands going in different directions.

I got A LOT to say, as well a hula dress to order, but I do feel seen by the Spectacled Bear. Why? Because I AM a Spectacled Bear! I was the voice and puppeteer of Paddington in the US National Tour of his play!

Expect the hula next week and a farewell video on the Bird Wishlist soon after.

If PZ2 doesn't have a duck, I'm relaunching the American Revolution against the UK.
That's awesome! I LOVE Paddington Bear. Off to make him a marmalade sandwich right now.

I seriously curse everybody who wished for the horrible clone tortoise, the curse = your favorite animal will NOT be in the starting roster of Planet Zoo 2. And my curses always come out.

Welp here comes the Iconic Anthracite the Slayer and his Slop Horde in Steam Community with the Frontier is not your friend and a company.
The Average Steam User calling Forums miserable f slurs and queers with the automatic 10$ Fradulent Scam

Here's what I said actually. Maybe stop slagging people off behind their back with all out lies.

"What a depressing last pack. Not even one bird? Hard pass."
and
"We are paying (or at least they want us to pay) for this dlc, we have every right to complain. This will be our 16th cat compared to 12 birds (an entire class of animal), and was it really so hard to give a south american monkey instead of a fourth lemur? No, sorry, this pack is just a lazy reskinning exercise.

Frontier are not your friend, they are a company. They don't need to be and should not be * kissed for doing the bare minimum. And clearly they have not been listening to the community because even on the main forum most people are disappointed in this pack, and they are the ultimate whales for frontier."

Am i seeing a lot more dissapointment with this one than with the Barnyard pack or is it just My impression?

Even on YouTube and IG i'm reading lota of comments about how dissapointing this is for a final DLC.

It was the backlash that came with Barnyard that prompt them to explicitly stated that another animal packs was coming. Maybe we'll here something next stream if at the very least a clear answer that this is the last DLC or if all our outroar will make them consider making another DLC with TRUE community wishes.

Not To Be That Guy But Pallas's Cat Would Be Our 14th Cat Not Our 16th.

Same vibes over here! And I'm definitely a bit nervous about it considering what happened with Barnyard and the gift shop items. There's potential for some of these props to be awesome (i.e., if they're just one piece that are flexicolor) or to be annoying (e.g., if there's 2-3 variations of each of the flowers that are a different color leading to piece count bloat or if obvious pieces such as the tent are not flexi).

Real talk: An additional pack that has potential for the tree kangaroo and secretary bird would re-vamp my hype. I think the October Unlocked might be key here. They let us know about this pack right after Barnyard so if there's another pack coming down the line? They'll probably let us know now too.

I'm not counting on it, though, given all that we know at the moment. Just some really odd exclusions, TBH.

I can't wrap my head around this either. My best guess is that there's a lack of resources. We know that they had already scaled down the PZ team, and I'd guess that the folks that they do have left are probably pulling double-duty between games (or, on the programming side of things, supporting both PC and console).

It's pretty clear that they want to go out on a celebratory note. It's all over the scenery pieces and the scenario! But I think they were held back a bit.

This is a particularly painful point when you consider that had they just given us three additional animals that were carefully selected and higher on the wishlist (e.g., coati, tree kangaroo, and secretary bird) that it would be fully changing people's perceptions of the entire pack.

They should finish with the TOP 5 wishlist pack, or just give us 10 damn birds last before closing. JUST BIRDS, at least include Golden Pheasant, a Pelican and of course the number one Secretary Bird.

But I guess they keep those for Planet Zoo 2...

I was more disappointed with Barnyard pack though, I still haven't bought that pack, and will probably never, I will buy this pack, if only for one of my favorite animals of all time, the Markhor, and my favorite bear species. I like baboons, dik-dik's, Pallas Cat and Sifaka's all the same, but in PLANET ZOO 2 please CUT the two boring lemurs!!!!! Give us Sifaka, Ringtail and Aye-Aye from the start, and cut those other two woolly bores forever.

I think the October Unlocked might be key here. They let us know about this pack right after Barnyard so if there's another pack coming down the line? They'll probably let us know now too.
But that time they had good news, so when everyone heard them say that they were relieved and excited. This time they would say its the last one which would make people upset even more, which is honestly why I think frontier avoids saying its the end of support for any of their games. They know that after they say that its the last one it'll just be a wall of complaining and people being upset.

As I said before, very on brand for Frontier. But don’t feel like you lef us down! You were a feathery beacon of light in a sea of hooves!

As someone who started the Waterfowl Winners Club I can admit I do feel the pain, though obviously you have spent so much more time and effort then I have!

If anything, you are allowed to feel upset at Frontier that this is how it ends. Nearly everyone on this forum has mentioned it, but this pack being the last one (man I hope I eat my words) and having no birds is really felt. All of us bird lovers have been asking for years and months for more habitat birds. To the point the modders took it into their own hands. So I get the pain!

This game I still great though, and as you stated, all things considered this pack is a fun line up! Just not a great final pack lineup.

I think the "disappointment" with Barnyard was a bit more prevalent and aggressive. In this case it feels a bit more like a light shrug and a "this is cool, I guess, but seriously? This is it for the end?" It's also hindered by the fact that most of the roster leaked beforehand so people knew what to expect. So there's no pleasant "mute swan" surprise, y'know?

Nobody seems to think the roster is terrible. But I think it was a mistake to exclude all of the top 5 meta wishlist animals because they kinda set that expectation with every pack since Wetlands including animals in the #1 or #2 slot from the meta wishlist. And given how general the theme is there's really no excuse not to do that, y'know?

All in all, this roster kinda feels like it's giving people species they wanted but a lot of people are missing their favorites or essentials (like, the coati would be both a favorite pick for many and additional SA representation). And that's what makes it kind of a bummer for me. This roster is actually really good and I can think of an immediate use for all of the species... But as a final pack? It's just lacking. I'm sure it'll age well as a standalone. But as a way to end things? It just feels a little off.

It was the backlash that came with Barnyard that prompt them to explicitly stated that another animal packs was coming. I said this a few minutes ago, but I really do hope that if there is another pack coming that they can tell us in the next Unlocked.

I do think it's good for people to voice their disappointment. Not that it will change anything in the end (if it's the end, it's the end)... But it will still be good for Frontier to hear. And if there is something else planned? They'll let us know.

Definitely, it’s hard to look at the finish line. Not to mention for this being the last dlc it didn’t have a lot of the animals you would have expected. Considering how badly the dictionary lead people astray with the secretary bird and goodfellows tree kangaroo that adds to some of it.

Also I’m still gonna mention it because I’m still bitter, no birds? Really? 😑

I seriously curse everybody who wished for the horrible clone tortoise, the curse = your favorite animal will NOT be in the starting roster of Planet Zoo 2. And my curses always come out.
Just imagine if we got the American black bear instead of the spectacled bear lol, clone tortoise and clone bear ultimate duo. I'm glad I took part in requesting my favourite tortoise. My curse? No muskox in pz2, yeah I can live with that.

I guess they want to leave a couple of fan-favorite animals for Planet Zoo 2, if they just give us the top 10 most requested, planet zoo 2 will bring nothing new.

Planet zoo 2 better be full of birds, and forever ridden of too many clones.

I'm sure the Secretary bird, that long-nosed Raccoon from the top 5 I always forget the name of, and the Walrus are going to be in Planet Zoo 2 base game now.

I can see the Tree Kangaroo being spared for the expansion though.

BUT THE BASE GAME BETTER STILL HAVE THE FREAKING CASSOWARY AND PRONGHORN!!!! If not, there is going to be a war.

90% of these people on this forum want the Pronghorn gone, I'm not gonna let that happen, if there is no Pronghorn in 2, I will riot!

If that's how you're interpreting what I said, I don't think I explained it correctly! :ROFLMAO:

If support is ending I don't think they'll mention anything about it on the next Unlocked. But if there's another DLC coming? Equally, given how they handled things post-Barnyard, I would anticipate them saying something about a future DLC (e.g., "sometime in 2025").
