DLC18 discussion and predictions

My hope is that “duck” is gonna be a sign that we will get one, otherwise the only way I can see why it was added to the dictionary is it’s an ambient bird in PC2.

I think pretty much all the bird names that were added are alluding to ambient birds in PC2 tbh. Would make sense given how generic they all are and nothing else seems to be added that could give more specific species names.

I decided to look into how an Islands theme might filter the 2024 meta-wishlist, and got to the following lists (chosen min of 2). This is a pretty literal translation, looking at exact names presented, selecting island subspecies if they help get it in.

The forced subspecies seems pretty unlikely, but it was a mildly interesting idea.

Yeah the moment I saw the pigeons I was pretty convinced. I’ll still have some hope, especially as Frontier likes to use new models (think the gibbons) so the mute swan rig may see a second use. It’s not unlikely that we get a new duck then the dictionary is updated.

Still, it’s also a super generic animal name. I’ll just wait and see. Most likely it’s gonna be an ambient animal, we will see when PC2 shows more screenshots.

What I want for Planet Zoo 2, is the addition of Medium and Large Exhibits. Small Exhibits are the ones currently have.

Medium exhibits could house bigger animals like Chinchillas, Northern Cloud Rat, Ant Colonys, Bee Hives, Sengis, and more! I also think they could do Medium+ Habitats house fishes like pirahnas, clown fish, coral houses, shrimp, saltwater fish.

Large exhibits could hold bigger animals like Lobsters, Anacondas, Eels, with also adding themed gallerys where you can add animals from Small and Medium Exhibits into Desert Themed, Lake themed, Ocean themed, Forest, Island and more!

It hurts to read that we have small exhibits when it's 4x4 metres big. Ideally small would be 0.5 metres where we can make decent insect houses so the animals aren't invisible. The best solution to the exhibit issue is the idea of modular exhibits where we have an exhibit box that can be easily resized where animal choice depends on the total size of the exhibit.

Seconding this. Honestly, I just hope a sequel fixes some of the general scaling issues with the game and adapts to the way players actually want to play versus what they thought people wanted at first (e.g., building bigger and primarily outdoors). People want to do those things but making it easier to build smaller exhibits/habitats, create indoor areas, providing smaller and more modular exhibit boxes like you suggested, and so on could go a long way.

I mean ideal case would be to get rid of the exhibits all together, atleast in its current sate, and just make everything habitat animals
If the exhibit system in a PZ2 would be the same as currently, just with more sizes that would be quite a let down in my opinion.

I mean i love that PZ even included them in the first place since in pretty much every other zoo game these types of animals usually get ignored. But they are also still far from great.
I love reptiles, they are easily my favorite group of animals, lizards especially. Thats why i dont really like the current plop it down and forget it approach to them

If exhibit animals become habitat animals then the whole animal needs system will need completely reworked. I don't want to see iguanas or insects running from one side of a habitat constantly (however small) like habitat animals do currently. In theory it's a good idea but I'd rather the exhibit system is improved than removed.

Yeah not habitat in terms of outdoor, open enclosure but so you can actually build their terrarium how you want and they can move around in it.
This is gonna be a traversable area nightmare I'm afraid, based on what we've seen with the Komodo dragons and dwarf caimans so far.

Once again, i'll be fine and happy with the PK aviary system for exhibit animals. Preditermined loops, cliping points and enrichment with specific animations. You could regulate their needs using the enrichments and each enrichment provides a new loop/animations while satisfying a need. Then you customize the surroundings and size how ever you want.

I will surprise you then, but PK aviary animals will from next year be like regular habitat animals with special twist.

Idk what PK is going to do with their own system, i'm just saying that it would be fine for a new way to approach exhibit animals in PZ.

But habitat animals have to move around way more than they would do in real life. Like lions rest/sleep for 21 hours a day, but how boring would that be in PZ if they just lay around 90% of the time

I doubt this, we have exhibit animals like snakes, imagine trying to make a snake a habitat animal, would be a nightmare.
I highly doubt it will happen either, thats way i said ideal case :D

I'm bored, so it's time for making another guess for the DLC. What if it is a pack with one animal from each biome?
  1. Aquatic: walrus
  2. Desert: Hamadryas baboon
  3. Grasslands: Patagonian mara
  4. Temperate: muntjac
  5. Taiga: markhor
  6. Tundra: muskox
  7. Tropical: South American coati
  8. Exhibit: chameleon (random one lol)
