DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

You either die a Zoo Tycoon or you live long enough to see yourself become The Sims 4
Ummm, for me personally if PZ stopped support after two-three years would be a big downer to me. I hate games with giant potencial suddenly drop their support. It's the easiest thing to drop new clone-rig animals for people to always recieve something new, while not costing my whole paycheck as Sims does, and I am here for it!
I will support this game as far as it lets me as I am happy there are new things to keep me invested and liking this game.
This game in a state of 5 DLCs in past I wouldn't enjoy it as much. I like looking forward to somehthing.

Of course, if they suddenly changed to ask 30euros for 2 PS1 quality animals I would also be the one to say it's better to end while good, but for now it's not the case, people are just obsessed with that if the pack doesn't have their fav animal or their perfect roster it's suddenly a bad dlc.

Throwing money at something out of fear it'll stop getting support doesn't feel like a healthy relationship IMO

I'm not really concerned about all this talk of "toxicity". If anyone thinks this place is toxic then they are very lucky.

Literally nothing has changed. Been here since 2019, and nothing has changed. Every DLC comes with the same song and dance. Pessimism and optimism from every direction, hope and cope, too. Frontier misses the mark with at least something every single time. Sometimes it's just more egregious than at other times. Often it makes me wonder what the hell they're thinking.

Nobody can police opinion. Yes, sometimes people say stupid stuff, like assuming Frontier somehow neglected sexual dimorphism in a species with obvious sexual dimorphism. Sometimes complaints are more reasonable, like Frontier missing the obvious choice of a coati in a pack based on the side of the world coatis live in, even knowing how popular the coati is in their two biggest markets, Americans and Europeans. Sometimes they're pre-emptive, like with the potential new elephant.

The bottom line is, though, that if we all shut up and waited, there's be no discussion at all.

And I can only speak for myself when I say that there is precious little I want out of this game anymore. Only the most deluded still think flying birds or aquaria are on the cards almost six years in, and we're so short on significant species (even for a zoo nerd community) that half the time disagreements boil down to which "clone" (I swear to the gods, if anyone tries to correct me on the word "clone" I'll lose it) would be preferred. Someone said recently that we're lucky to still be getting content, but honestly, I disagree. At this point I just want a sequel. I don't care if all it changes is a new pathing system and a foliage brush while everything else is mostly the same. Starting fresh is beginning to feel like it would be pretty damn nice.
As someone who is active in Warhammer and TF2, you really hit the nail on the head. Any “drama” from the forums is like a breath of fresh air for me. I think it helps that while PZ is popular, it is no where near as popular as other games, and I usually find the larger the game community the higher the odds that toxicity follows. We also don’t have a “competitive scene” which I think helps.

Not...really, though. The kangaroo is the Australian national animal. In countries like Australia, New Zealand, or even in many places in Africa, Asia, and South America, most of the species we consider "roadkill" are introduced from, you know, Europe and America. Hedgehogs and the like. Our native animals are delicate and have protected status. Plus, people in these countries expect to see our native animals in zoos, and often go for that purpose. We don't have kiwi wandering into our back gardens to rifle through our trash.

At the same time, animals like the skunk, raccoon, coyote, red fox, and so on, aren't considered "exotic" in the same way lions, tigers, or elephants are. Our media culture is imported from America; the attitudes you have towards such species is similarly imported to some extent. Like, I like skunks because I think they're kind of weird and cute but they don't excite me the way a gorilla does, and I'd sooner see a kiwi than a raccoon.

The bald eagle might be a better comparison to the kangaroo.
I mean yeah, true...

You actually brought up another point, and it's that players in other countries want to see local animals, but I've noticed that when NA gets a local animal (after the North America pack, mind y'all), it's been looked down upon by several. In particular, I've noticed that only players from North America seem to not want North American animals and get bent outta shape (still a minority, though, as most players here tend to enjoy them regardless). I can't remember seeing anybody in Europe mad that European animals are added

Genuinely as a NA player my main desire for NA is just birds. Yeah I know, obvious statement from RightWhale over here. But genuinely I have a ton of options for my NA zoo:
  1. I can make an Alaska/ Yukon section
  2. I can make the prairie section
  3. I can make an Everglades section
  4. I can make a desert section
Obviously each of these areas have gaps that can be filled, but by and large the major players are available for me to make multiple different sections. Still, after almost 6 years the only bird I have is the flamingo. So that really only covers the Everglades if anything. I could really use a Sandhill Crane, Roadrunner/ Burrowing Owl, Wood Duck, Wild Turkey, etc.
I think the main thing for a lot of Players, is while we are still missing a big part of our roster (more than one bird) NA actually has some really good representation in PZ.

In fact NA has such good representation in PZ, a lot of SA animals are also native to NA. Isn’t that funny? SA still only has OK representation! 😭

I dunno, My Sticker Zoo looks like some competition for Frontier

No no, I agree. I mean, sure, bring me the gray fox and black bear and I'll click my heels together and sing Blues in the Night unirocally, but apart from a select few, a VERY select few animals, my only desires from North America are birds, particularly fowl. Turkeys, ruddy ducks, spoonbills, maybe a prairie chicken, too

Yeah but at this point what do you want to do with DLCs other than plugging gaps?
There really are no places left that have missing pieces of the caliber of tigers, elephants and stuff.
After this India pack i feel like those gaps are no longer about places lacking animals (with the exceptions of Patagonia/ Tropical South America) but more about types of animals (birds, reptiles, monkeys all around) or specific animals (coati, tree roo, musk ox).

the lion tail macaque probably blocks getting a langur which imo would have been next most essential.
Guar and Yak are up there but v unlikely to get a double bovine. Same with Chital and Sambar for deer.
Not necessarily. We've seen double animals before in packs, so there's no reason that we couldn't get 2 primates or 2 deer.
Plus, remember that we've gotten 2nd choices in several areas. We literally have 3 different Canis dogs from NA and 2 different NA foxes. There's no reason to think that we won't get a langur since the macaque is coming (and plus, why would somebody NOT want the macaque? Asia has 2 monkeys, which are the cold Japanese macaque and the proboscis monkey, related to langurs. I'm happy we got a 3rd monkey from the region, and a striking one at that)

Frontier have been smart to have left some gaps in the basegame roster. Although I do wish we'd have less african animals in the base game and a bit more south american and australian animals.

What?? :D No, I said I will keep throwing money for their good job...
Nope, too late. Now we understand...

Dev: "Here's your game, sir"

Bughs: "Uh, I can see the Binary code still. Is that a T-pose?"

Dev: "Yeah, we decided to stop supporting it. No interest"

Bughs: slips a check for $50 "Here, finish the game"

I mean we also got the addax and dama, which is probably the most similar pair of animals we ever got in one pack. And atleast to me the gaur+yak aswell as lion tailed macaque+langur pairs feel a little more distinct from each other than the dama+addax one, because of different biomes if nothing else. Perhaps more comparable to the recent coyote+bushdog.

So also getting the langur ontop of the macaque or both blackbuck and nilgai for example doesnt feels like its out of the question.
