Oh, I was so certain that there would be nothing of note in the stream that I didn't even check in until I saw
@CharlieXGaming's video pop up in my YouTube feed (thanks!). India is good, honey badger and lion-tailed macaque are good, but if we're actually getting a third elephant when there were plenty of other animals that had some degree of actual demand for additional "redundant" (sub)species (Masai giraffe, Grevy's zebra, additional brown bear or gray wolf or even lion subspecies) then idek that's just bizarre and tone deaf. I really hope that they're just there for visual flourish, but my expectations are somewhat low.
Still, absolutely incredible that we're getting our third monkey in a row, and they've actually managed to all be
really good picks too. I'll be disappointed if we don't see both the blackbuck and nilgai here, but I think those are pretty safe inclusions assuming this is indeed India and not some broader Asian theme. Selfishly, I'd also consider the fishing cat an absolute top priority, but I know that one's bound to be a bit more contentious. I suppose you could round out the roster with gaur or axis deer/barasingha/Indian muntjac, any of which I'd be fine with, but I'd also be fine without them. Perhaps a langur in addition to the macaque if Frontier wanted to be extra nice? Or of course, any bird would be greatly welcomed - not sure off the top of my head what would be on theme but if this is where we finally get a pheasant or pelican I'd be thrilled.
Haven't really dug
too much into the speculation yet but I've already seen a lot of really lackluster suggestions like corsac fox, golden jackal, Indian crested porcupine, and Indian pangolin - things that aren't particularly common in zoos and would offer very little on top of their extant cousins. Those would be disappointing in any situation, but if we truly are getting a redundant elephant they'd especially drag the pack down. India was one of the best spots left that could give us a decent contained roster, so
please don't let it be bogged down with unpopular redundancies.
