DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

I wasn't saying it's not possible, personally I really hope we get one, I am just saying how is the Pelican, which can easily be a tweaked swan, or the mara, that could use the baby capy (or maybe Gazelle) as a base.
  • Although pelicans and swans seem similar, the head alone would be a lot of drastic changes due to the mouth pouch. Not to mention the fact that pelicans dive (something that our swans don't do), which requires further work

  • If we were going to get Patagonian maras, they would've come by now. My guess is that using capybara kits doesn't give the right speed and lithe bodyplan seen in maras.

I do agree about the mara, now thinking about it that wouldn't make much sense, but I still feel that the pelican is just as easy to make from the swan as the hornbill is to the chicken. besides the pouch and the diving (which can just be a new animation, similar to the crane courting dance) there isn't to much that would make the pelican extremely complicated, don't get me wrong, it's still unique and a new rig. With that said I really hope we get both, I love them equally.

Using the Top 25 of the meta wishlist, here's what I think could be realistically expected
Green Check = Pealistic
Yellow squiggle = Possible
Red Cross = Unrealistic

Using my speculation, I've devised a few hypothetical Animal Packs for the rest of the year:
Safari Animal Pack:
  • Grey Crowned Crane
  • Mantled Guereza
  • Serval
  • Greater Kudu
  • Nile Crocodile
  • Southern Ground Hornbill
  • Honey Badger
  • Frontier stop ignoring Exhibit Animals challenge (impossible)
Frigid Animal Pack:
  • Muskox
  • Walrus
  • Sea Otter
  • Canada Goose
  • American Black Bear
  • Elk
  • Wild Turkey
  • Frontier stop ignoring Exhibit Animals challenge (impossible)
Jungles Animal Pack:
  • Roseate Spoonbill
  • Reeves's Muntjac
  • Brazilian Tapir
  • Red-Footed Tortoise
  • Silver Pheasant
  • Gaur
  • Fishing Cat
  • Frontier stop ignoring Exhibit Animals challenge (impossible)

Little chance we'll see the echidna and tree roo in PZ1 at this point, so time to fully embrace my perentie campaigning era, complete with a new profile pic (using a photo I took earlier this year of my first wild perentie). Give me the funny lizard Frontier
Hey @Chuditch, there's a guy using your profile name and pretending to be you but they have a perentie as their PFP. You gotta scare them off with your Tassie devil

Was about to drop my prediction for a potential next pack now that we know more unique animals are probably off the table, but this was basically exactly it 😅

Would not be disappointed by this lineup at all, in fact in terms of "clone" or "easy-to-make" packs like Americas, this is probably the best possible lineup we could get, at least in my opinion.

The Frontier transfers some staff from the PZ team to the PC2 team, but PC2 still fails in sales, which causes Frontier financial problems. So, Frontier has to make more easy-to-make packs with mostly clone species to stabilize its finances.

On that note for a Safari pack i expect something like

1. Grey crowned crane
2. Serval
3. Honey badger
4. Olive baboon / Another zebra/giraffe
5. Greater kudu
6. Impala
7. Bat eared Fox / Aardwolf
Honestly? Not bad picks. Yeah, missing Secretary would feel the same as missing the Coati, but these are not bad animals either.

Yeah a pelican wouldn't be extremely complicated to do. The diving part is something they'd probably even fully omit; because in a zoo environment pelicans don't seem to dive that much. It's the same story as with the moose, yes they can technically dive but they don't do that in a zoo context so it's not added to the game.

I don't think giving pelicans deep diving would even be accurate - brown and Peruvian pelicans are known for "plunge-diving" after prey but they immediately float back to the surface once they hit the water (they're not like gannets, which properly dive down and swim after fish), and other pelican species just kinda sit on the surface like waterfowl and scoop up fish as they paddle along - they would probably have trouble submerging themselves at all. I think a pelican flapping about under the water for extended periods of time would look a little silly.

An African safari pack with the Nile crocodile as headliner is the most likely option in my opinion:
  1. Nile crocodile
  2. Serval
  3. Impala or gerenuk
  4. Secretary bird
  5. Great white pelican or grey crowned crane
  6. Greater kudu or common eland
  7. An African monkey (Colobus, Guenon, Diana, Mangabey or De Brazza)

Carnivorans - Andean Moutain Cat / serval
Ungulates - musk deer
Primates - spider monkey
Other Mammals - European hare/ African Wolf
Birds - black swan
Reptiles - nile crocodile or bush viper if its not habitat

Since you're talking about pack that'll feature African animals, here's mine.
  • Masai giraffe
  • Serval
  • Shoebill
  • Nile crocodile
And for Animal pack featuring three more,...
  • Black-backed jackal
  • Crowned crane (grey or black)
  • Gerenuk
Or optional: Hartmann's mountain zebra and Grevy's zebra together to make all three species of zebra to be there.

Assuming theyre not gonna give us bsck to back to back South American stuff, I think my inclination would be a China pack?

Lady Amherst and/or Golden Pheasant
Golden Snub Nosed Monkey
Yak
Raccoon Dog
Pere David's Deer
Chinese Giant Salamander
Mandarin Duck

I added this same of mine in this same thread but as a kind of pack featuring my wanted and hoped for.

Family Pack also known as Taxonomy Pack featuring animals separated in different group and classifications.

  1. American black bear (carnivorans)
  2. Masai giraffe (even-toed ungulates)
  3. Squirrel monkey (primates)
  4. Short-beaked echidna (other mammals)
  5. Chilean flamingo (birds) (Guess why. And I could pick rockhopper and Gentoo penguin but I could only pick one for each, right?)
  6. Any Australian monitor lizard species like perentie and lace monitor (reptiles)
  7. Domestic horse (odd-toed ungulates) or giant salamander (amphibians)
  8. For Exhibit, small fish like piranhas, seahorses, clownfish and garden eel (fish) although since Barnyard, Planet Zoo creators and designers no longer came up with Exhibit animals.
