DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

The Steam page for JWE3 said that there are over 80 species, meaning that around 30 (probably less) got cut. Now, I don't think this bodes poorly for PZ2 (if it even exists), because JWE3 is introducing both sexual dimorphism and baby dinosaurs, which require new models, sounds, and animations, and with the number of prehistoric species in the previous game it's perfectly reasonable for Frontier to not want to do that process for every single species. Planet Zoo, of course, has had baby animals since launch, so the devs wouldn't have to worry about creating a bunch of new models and whatnot for the next game, meaning that it would be reasonable to expect every animal from the first game to be included in the sequel. That doesn't mean that every animal from the first game SHOULD make it in though, looking at you Himalayan Brown Bear and Arctic Wolf.

I know you defend the dingo as a native Australian animal and a vital part of the ecosystem (as do I for the most part) but they of course were human introduced and outcompeted a lot of native carnivores driving hen to extinction. What is your line of when something is invasive to when it’s been naturalized in your opinion?
Well it’s just that, it’s become a vital part of modern Australian ecosystems so it’s no longer invasive by definition - invasive species are considered non-native animals that harm the native environment. That was probably true of the dingo when it first arrived, but they’ve now integrated into the ecosystem to the point they actually play a role in encouraging biodiversity.

As for why I’d say dingoes are native to Australia, first of all of course there’s just the fact they’ve lived here for so long and the ecosystem has adapted to their presence. But perhaps more convincingly, dingoes as we know them evolved in Australia - their ancestors were introduced by humans, but they’ve changed since their arrival to suit their new environment. A study published last year on 3,000 year old dingo fossils found they were more similar to New Guinea singing dogs in form and intermediate between them and modern dingoes in size, and that over the past few thousand years they’ve evolved larger sizes, leaner bodies and different skulls/dentition to suit their new environment (also allowing them to take larger prey like kangaroos and emus).

The fact that dingoes have evolved to suit the Australian environment is also demonstrated by the fact there are numerous dingo ecotypes found across the continent, each adapted to surviving in different environments - look at the differences between the dingoes below for example (the ones in PZ are based on the stereotypical desert dingoes, but alpine dingoes like the one on the right are actually the most common in zoos):

Overall the dingo is an animal that has been in Australia for thousands of years, has evolved specifically for the Australian environment, and is now one of the most ecologically influential species on the entire continent. They’ve certainly earned their nativehood to me.

Honestly, I'm not expecting every species in PlanZo 1 in a hypothetical PlanZo 2. Really, it wouldn't be smart. Yeah, people will be disappointed about having to buy said animals again, but what would they even make DLCs about anyways? Filling them up with aquarium and aviary animals won't be enough, I'm betting on it. Adding a macaw and an arapaima won't be enough to justify an Amazon pack to most people, but throw in a jaguar and you got a much more popular pack that can make everyone happy.

Animals will possibly get cut, several may be replaced by different choices. What's gonna make or break PlanZo 2 is gonna be enhanced game features, like improved management in-game, a proper 1st person mode (interactive, etc.), improved pathing (and pathfinding), improving the deep dive and climbing systems, and a heckuva lot more (I'm hoping for multiple habitat gates)

Sad but realistic view into our future.
The justification for reselling is the addition of juvenile and male models (branded as a family unit), not something justifiable for PZ2.

That said, it didn't stop them from reselling the Huayangosaurus and hybrids in JWE2, so yeah probably comparable to a degree.

Assuming there's 10-15 new species in base game, there's going to be around 50 species to sell back to JWE players, so probably 4-5 old species per update, to fit into 3 years.

Given JWE2 DLCs had 4 species, there's probably going to be more species per average DLC, or there's some free update species

I agree, I'm not expecting a full roster for PZ2 release. Not at all and I might be hated for saying this, but I wouldn't want it. I do want new animals from scratch. As good as the PZ1 ones are, digital artwork can always be improved through innovation and advancements in technology. I think PZ2 can start off with a bang even with say, 80 species or whatever if the artwork is fresh and fantastic.

What I don't want is the opposite: buying a whole new game for the same animals, even if we got all of them at once.

I'm gonna be honest, if PZ2 doesn't have all the animals that we have now, it would be a massive turn down for me.

Yes JWE3 won't has all the animals, but in this case it's understandable cuz they need to add an additional model for all the 122 animals, and another one for some of them. But in PZ case i don't se a single, non-predatory reason to not add everyone again.
Lack of Big name material to sell DLCs for sequel.

There are basically three cathegory of animals i would be ok with not being in base game for the sequel:

1. Animals that need big improvements / remasters and are also good DLC material (but they MUST become part of the roster at some point:
* Snow leopard
* Spotted hyena
* African wild dog
* Okapi
* Nile monitor
* Gharial
* Indian rhino
* Galápagos giant tortoise
* Red panda
* Orangután
* Giant anteater
* Black wildebeest
* Springbok
* Greater flamingo
* Dall's sheep (replaced with Marco polo sheep maybe)
* Asiatic black bear
* Siberian tiger
* Pronghorn
* Sable antelope

2. Animals that i don't particulary care about but look good already so they might as well include them (but i won't really be upset if they are not there):
* Nile lechwe
* Dama gazelle
* Sand Cat
* Wisent
* Saiga
* Coyote
* Asia water monitor
* Half (or all minus the alpaca) of the barnyard pack
* Cuvier's dwarf caimán

3. Animals that i won't miss if not included (feel superfluos and could be omited not worth the work to remasters them):
* Himalayan Brown bear
* Arctic wolf (rather have a remastered grey wolf with subespecies variante)
* Bonobo
* Aldabra giant tortoise
