It´s the 159850985th poll reagrding PVP. All were roundabout 80:20 in favour of PVE. Let´s see... ups...

I feel like, if you want to do PvP, that's all I'd be able to do since I'd have to outfit my ship completely differently, which would be useless for the more general play which is what I usually do. I fly an Anaconda full time and the insurance is too much to risk on PVP.

PVP is fun, but only when there is an opponent that plays a game... not when it is one of those individuals, that does not react to any communication, attacks without reason and pulls the plug once you beat em up. I was rammed to death 3 times by an Anaconda pilot on my first day... not a word on the comms, just senseless destruction... wasnt fun... but i was attacked by pilots with awesome skill, not only shooting but acting like mean pirates, space villains and bounty hunters via comms... i shot down some of them and i got killed by some of them... that was fun. I like to get into dangerous situations, but i dont like to get killed by a player wing in Vultures, when i fly alone and carry months of exploration data in an already damaged Asp - and all for nothing. That simply doesnt work out.

I would like to see that civilian pilots would only get light weapons for their individually fitted craft, and military pilots would get all the firepower, but only on assigned pre-fitted vessels with a mission loadout to choose. Firing at civilians and non designated targets would get them kicked out of the fleet. Civilians firing at civilians would receive massive penalties once brought to justice to make clear to everyone, that it is not the way to go.

But as it isnt this way, i play in Open and with PvP only from time to time and most of the time i spend with friends in private groups. Edit: Forgot to say... this way my vote can only be "No".

I like PvP in games that are designed around PvP, ED isn't one of them.
Agreed. I really enjoy PvP games. Elite is neither PvP, nor is it PvE. Those are terms used outside of the game. Inside, it's just PvElite and the game isn't designed around caring who's flying the ships you encounter. Neither do I. I like seeing the hollow markers, it means something unpredictable may happen, or not. That's PvElite.

I like it when they thank me for saving their ass. In their native language preferably ("merci/danke" :] ). Fun to follow a wake of someone who got pulled by an NPC.

The true multiplayer nature of this game would be PvE. Maybe it will come one day, when all the XXX (insert the expletive) go to other pew-pew games.

No Combat in General is Fairly badly Implemented in ED.

Chaffs are too Powerful.
Turrets are too Weak.
Controls are Clunky and the whole FA-Off thing is Ridiculous especially cause you have no Chance without it.

The Combat Aspect including PvP needs an Major Overhaul.
They need to make Turrets do the same Damage as Fixed Weapons but give them higher Energy Cost so only Big Ships can use them.
They need to Cut down on Chaffs for example making them not only Disturb Targeting of the Enemy and thus making them a Super Spam Item, but make them also Affect your own Targeting since your inside that Metal Cloud. (And since theyre on it they should give ECM a Use... )
But most of all they need to drop this FA-Off Rubbish. Its only making things more Complicated. Instead they should simply Decrease the Flight Assist Speed. So it does Stabilize your Ship but not Instantly and not against the Direction your Steering. But Slowly so you get Stabilized after some Seconds if you dont move in the Direction.

This is not really a contextual question my answer is yes and no.

Yes I like the idea of randomly bumping into CMDR's who could be friendly or hostile planning and building my ships to meet the tactics and choices of my opponents. Then taking missions or activities with that in mind then every once in a while a skill based combat situation.

No I don't like p2p instacing that allows people to combat log or mode switch and invalidate the PVP mechanics. I also don't like the way that ships can be made over 100% better to the point that if you don't grind engineers you will loose to someone who has, in a game that touts options this limits them. Then we have the fact that if you set up your ship for PVP it is useless for everything else and vice versa. All the design choices here seem to invalidate PVP as a meaningful way to play the game and that is a shame.

I feel like I'm being told: Hey here is our Space Sandbox, you can do whatever you want "Blaze your own trail." But actually making that robust is almost impossible and saying that would loose a whole lot of sales so lets just make PVP a pain in the rear and make it much easier to just do something else. I think we can break this whole conversation down to the game spreading it's self to thin, you just can't expect all the elements to work together properly and have depth.

I hate pvp in all MMOs, even the videos are boring, but here it's almost the only danger in the game so I'm happy it's possible, even if all I do is run for life all the time :)
Dota2, WarThunder etc are for actual, fun pvp :)

Problem with PvP is its rarity unless you actively go looking for it. A PvP setup makes a substandard PvE setup and 99.5% of the time it's PvE. And now with modded weapons and no storage it's even worse to outfit between the two. That pretty much is my sole reason I don't PvP. As for greifers, gang bangers and psychos? Bring em on. It's really too bad as I would enjoy PvP if handled correctly in Elite.

I've spent countless hours over many decades in Elite (and Elite Plus!), Frontier and First Encounters without missing PvP at all.

I love it , because its the only time you ever come close to facing a risk.
As its harder to die the NPCs than it is to kill them.

A great example was there was this CMDR who kept interdicting me across about 10 systems when I was in my type-6.
Anyway , he won as I could just not out jump him as he seemed to have both wake scanners.

Another was this amazing CMDR near an engineer base who attacked me , he was powerfull nothing could get threw his shields so I had to leave.
What happened was an epic pursuit. I ended up jumping away and hiding somewere for a while.

Or the few conflict zone encounters that were epic
And then when the FDL and vulture were new I had this battle with an FDL and I was under the delusion that it was better than the vulture in everyway , but it turned out to not be the case

Don't really know.
Tried it 3 times (or perhaps more properly it was forced upon me) and it was such a lag-fest I died without getting off a shot as I recall. Quite the slideshow.
That was last fall and I have been in Solo ever since.

The game has to have a system for PVP where you don't just have people geared for PVP crushing PVE'ers that are geared for PVE.

Hence battlegrounds, arenas, etc. in other games. ED doesn't have that, and CQC is not part of ED (has nothing to do with your ships) so there's nothing like that here, unlesss you go by OPEN = pvp, then it can work.

Then there should be no ships in open other than those geared and looking for PVP.

Do you mean the "submit to interdiction - target next system - initiate jump" kind of PvP? That's all the PvP I've ever got to experience in this game.

It baffles me how it has not yet been understood that modern day vessel roles (tanker vs. destroyer) don't work in an age of sail setting (pirates of the high seas). On one hand we have David Braben himself saying that "There’s so much in there, and what we see from play patterns is that many do the same thing over and over", we've got the new patch inviting, nay, almost forcing us to try out different mechanics like mining and wake scanning with a varied loadout, and on the other hand we have PvP builds, and the forum's white knights going: "do you even high-wake bro, BRUH, DO U EVEN HIGH-WAKE" whenever PvP imbalance in Open gets mentioned on the forum.
