I USED to like PvP in ED. Very intense at times. I liked the way you could get a wing of small ships and still have a chance against people with top-tier ships.

At the moment, there are plenty of players out there with fully modded ships, that have an overwhelming advantage over non-modded ships. I'm mainly thinking about weapon effects. It will take a casual player like me months to get modded to that level. Call me a carebear if you want, but it puts me off entering PvP engagements. I'm honestly not bitter though - enjoying PvE and slowly plodding my way through engineers. I still play in open for the interaction though.

Lol on this forum, that question has no place...

No Combat in General is Fairly badly Implemented in ED.

Chaffs are too Powerful.
Turrets are too Weak.
Controls are Clunky and the whole FA-Off thing is Ridiculous especially cause you have no Chance without it.

The Combat Aspect including PvP needs an Major Overhaul.
They need to make Turrets do the same Damage as Fixed Weapons but give them higher Energy Cost so only Big Ships can use them.
They need to Cut down on Chaffs for example making them not only Disturb Targeting of the Enemy and thus making them a Super Spam Item, but make them also Affect your own Targeting since your inside that Metal Cloud. (And since theyre on it they should give ECM a Use... )
But most of all they need to drop this FA-Off Rubbish. Its only making things more Complicated. Instead they should simply Decrease the Flight Assist Speed. So it does Stabilize your Ship but not Instantly and not against the Direction your Steering. But Slowly so you get Stabilized after some Seconds if you dont move in the Direction.

No thank you, dumbing down combat is not needed.

I love PVP, but I don't just go around and attack people at random, I'll only attack people for (reasons) and I will generally not kill them unless that's part of the reason.

Couple reasons I attack people.

To steal cargo (yep, I am fully aware there are faster and better ways to make money, but I find this fun. I carry cargo scanner, FSD wake scanner, hatch breakers and collectors when being a pirate)

If they attacked me. Even in this case, I'll generally try to disable people instead of destroy them, though I would like it if there were more methods of doing this more reliably, missiles are really useful for this now though and a massivly welcome change.

Power play reasons (though I am not a big fan of power play, it does give legitamate reasons for battles) Again, here I tend to disable if I can, because I just find that more fun.

If I am for/against a CG, or a side of a CG. So, say someone is attacking people to stop them completing a CG I am for, I'll attack these guys trying to stop it.
Of if I am against a CG (this is normally only when the few occasions where a CG has more than one side to it) then I'll attack people to stop them achieving their side of it. In these cases I'll kill, unless removing their cargo achieves my actual goal.

Other in game reasons (for instance, and this is going to at first sound like I'm a horrible person, bear with me) Interdicting newbs....

But I'll interdict them, and force them to scoop up some imperial slaves, and smuggle them into the nearest federation station/outpost with a black market so they can "infiltrate" it or some other made up reason. It's generally fun for me, them, and also teaches the newb about cargo scooping, smuggling, black markets, interdiction and other players being able to interdict you, and the imperial slaves commodity, as well as at the least, the federation and the empire.

So yeah, I love PvP, but I need reasons, which can be found.

Your the type which likes to Drive an Oldie from the 80s with 130kph i guess.

Just cant be happy unless you have to force the gears into it with raw power while eating flies with your nose.
After all modern hushmush would only dumb it down hmmm *gg*

Sorry that some people ask for proper controls.
ED Spaceships Controls are worse than Warthunder SB Controls.
Or putting it clearly. ED Spaceships are more clunky in flight than WW2 Aircraft :p

I like PvP in games that are designed around PvP, ED isn't one of them.

It is and it isn't. ED certainly allows for great PVP but for my taste it does not captialise enough on that PVP aspect. And I believe it could do this in a way that is not detrimental to PVE. It's actually a drawing card for ED that one can mix and match PVP and PVE elements to suit one's preference rather than being your "full on" PVP game. If only PVP received some love from FDev...

You must be flying the wrong stuff ...

Nope its just that the Controls are really bad.
Any Modern Fighter Jet is capable of maintaining a relative bearing despite being in a Maneuver.
But Ships in ED ? Nope.

In ED your doing almost everything by hand.

Well not that i find that strange.
Given that Modern Combat Jets are way faster than the Ships in ED

I have no problem keeping my bearing in a manoeuvre ... can you elaborate on what you mean (pm if you feel like it, we are getting off topic here)?

You are going earthly mach 7 in glide mode and up to 2~3 with a speed optimised ship. Very comparable.

I like PvP-combat as one possibility to resolve conflicts in competitive team-play - especially when it is part of a strategical game-play with a background that gives reason for the combat.
Actually this was the case with powerplay.

Or maybe you just don't know how to fly in ED?

I liek to fight, everything, wathever the context.

  • especially if it's difficult
  • especially if the opponent is better than me
  • especially if the situation is against me

Shooting on another player is what thrills me

I just wish there will just be no other game modes. All in one         same instance/universe in a one and single server.

PVP in ED? No, not really. PVP in other games? Sure. Like Planetside 2, Guildwars 2 (World vs World). I like large scale battles because I suck at 1 V 1 engagements. 4 V 4 (in ED) doesnt seem like a large scale engagement to me. I like zerg warfare. :)

CQC in ED is good though. I can die over and over without any loss.

WW2 aircraft? What? You've flown a WW2 aircraft?
Or is that a War Thunder WW2 aircraft using a 'game' controller?
You are comparing 2 games and their flight models, controllers etc.
Clearly, you did not put it clearly.:p

Why is one of the voting options in lower case and the other in upper case?

Surely there is not bias in this reliable and accurate method of canvasing opinion?

1.
Yes. As you said. YOU have no trouble to keep your Bearing :)
But thats the thing. Your doing that 100% manual.
Meanwhile even a Ju87 in WW2 had Automatics to support a Pilot by regaining its bearing even when the Pilot blacked out. And that without hindering his other Maneuvers ;)

Dont you think that a Spaceship from 2200 should be way better and give more Support for such stuff ? :)

2.
An most Optimized Ship in ED and outside atmosphere manages to get the Average Speed of an Fighter Jet inside Atmosphere.
That alone should be saying enough.

Sorry I am used to Controls from the 21st Century.
I am not good with Controls that feel like yanking a 2m long hydraulic lever around ;)

There was no lower case. Yes?
I voted NO as I like uppercase italics.
