Do you want Ground Vehicles?

I'd love a heavy transport vehicle, for a new game loop. I'd love to embark on several day long travels to transport cargo from settlements to starports or any other POIs on the surface. I'd like having an in game reason to travel lond distances and plan routes on the surface, avoiding mountain ranges, craters, etc...

I’d love to be able to transport commodities from a settlement to your ship. With that should probably come a transport vehicle.

did it ever occur to you that creating paintjobs generates revenue whereas fixing bugs probably doesn't? I think that explains why FDev is releasing paintjobs and ship kits. The revenue stream from paid add -ons pays staff at FDev. Hopefully some people who who do bug fixing. It is up to every player if they want to invest into paint jobs or not.

Yes, I realize though that fixing things doesn’t provide excuses to sell more Arx so I’m not holding my breath.

At the risk of quoting my own post, which you yourself even initially quoted and replied to, yes, it did occur to me.

That’s the point. Continually releasing fluff to spend Arx on, while ignoring glaring issues and even breaking things that were working in the past, does not make for a great game in the long run, or a great company.

Just because they don't fix the bugs that you find important fast doesn't mean they ignore it. Other cool stuff shouldn't be halted either.

Does ED need more ground vehicles? For example:
  1. Hoverbike. The benefits are faster surface transportation vs an SRV. More nimble between obstacles. Downsides are less cargo space and more fragile.
  2. Harvester, excavator, drilling vehicle. A surface mining update could include heavy-duty vehicles.
  3. Hovertank. For heavy combat and to transport troops (NPCs) in a battlefield.
  4. Submarine. To go underwater in lakes, rivers and oceans. It's ideal for water worlds.
What kind of ground vehicles do you want or ships only?

If we could start having NPCs driving around in any kind of surface vehicle, that'd be smashing.

Count me in for a superfast hover/skimmer bike that you mount rather than get in, it could hook up to life support so you can synthesize more air if you start to run out, but other than that you are exposed to the elements as if you were on foot.

If only we could mine on planets and haul commodities between bases in some of these SRV variants. It would allow for a lot of game loops and make use of the scale of the planets, but I suppose if you have a space ship, why truck it across a planet?

I like that idea a lot. Surface settlements could have missions that would suit the SRV, maybe a covert courier mission from one base to another that has to go by ground, but the time limit is pretty tight, thus playing out like a time trial. Taking off in your ship would fail the mission. Surface mining would be great too, to get small quantities of things like gems, possibly have a mining/refinery SRV containing similar to that of the furnace in Minecraft where you can take a few things and combine them, using recipes, for alloys and stuff like that. Could also be an alternate way to get some rare materials for engineering/trading.

I'd love any of these with an overall expansion of surface content. It really feels like there isn't much to do on foot unless you're legitimately new to the game or want to do some sightseeing. Tie these to improving colony progress somehow or even getting something actually rewarding out of finished colonies like greater access to surface minerals, etc (please do not lock new vehicle content behind ownership of one, that'd be bad overall), and Fdev could be cooking something very nice to go along side trailblazers.

I don't like the ideas of forcing anyone to redo their planetary base layouts though, that's just cruel and unusual punishment. It takes a while to move mats around already.

...and some of the bug fixes look like they might have come from people who make paints...
I'm still facepalming at the launcher detecting no connection to the servers but still loading the game anyway even though I'll have to quit out to desktop to try again. This was a "bugfix". It's like they're deliberately trying to waste my time. Oh wait, that explains Trailblazers.... :p
