Do you want Planet Type DLC

Ah... it must be time for me to look at the latest bit of NMS then.
Apparently Hello Games gives players all this for free.
NMS had an awful launch but its evolution has been nothing short of extraordinary imo. its just had a totally new terrain generation, tech which was for their new game but they backported into NMS. For me its no elite dangerous replacement but it is worthy of anyones library who have even the slightest interest in exploration and base building.

For me, it is always a hint of danger from unknowns that shift things from interesting up to exciting, like unexpected storms and extreme weather, or exploring a Thargoid colonised planet for the first time...
Could you imagine...flying through the atmosphere of a gas giant, when suddenly....

Once they fix odyssey performance so it doesnt lag so much. Then maybe add more stuff.
Oddy at launch ran like a bag of spanners. it was awful and never should have launched in such a state.......... however i find performance to be fine these days . Sure it does not run as well as horizons did........ but then that is true of a lot of games and often it is hard to spot exactly WHY a game may run objectively worse than a different game a few years older with seemingly similar visuals and scope.
imo performance is where it is now with oddy and i would not want performance to be used as an excuse not to build more on it.

It is much improved over when it launched - there were places I was down to single digit FPS on some EDO bodies (extraction settlements) in the first few months, this on a pretty good system.

Recently, just for fun, I ran EDO on my 'other' PC, an AMD Ryzen 8700G, using its internal graphics.
30 FPS in 1080 with a lot turned down low... I didn't think it was bad, at launch that little machine would have been at fractions of a frame per second!

Yes, legacy needs less power, but doesn't have those pretty bits EDO has.

OP: My vote is a hard YES for a planet (buyable) DLC and F.Dev, if the content merited it, I'll pay the asking price.
Other games, already offer this planet variability and Elite is in need of an update in this department. I'd be OK with this update being a paid DLC offering additional gameplay as long it didn't break any existing gameplay.

For the comments that highlight some gotya scenarios, yes, I accept that. If you don't have the DLC, you won't have access to some the new game play. It is what it is!

For the comments already explaining why this won't happen, simply, I hope you are wrong (and worry you might know more than I do and are correct)

For the comments that mention gameplay aspects, I agree for sure, it's a hand and glove situation for sure.

In my dream ....exploring a world for a particular mining opportunity, say at the behest of your faction for example or in competition with other factions comes to mind. Selling the intel (as per the current exploration data mechanic) followed by actual mining operations (as per the mining mechanic) and dealing with 'challenges and trouble makers' (as per the combat mechanic, both "on foot" and "in ship"), not to mention expanded 'science' gameplay with biology and new material identification with Engineers driving demands and.... and .... and .....

puh! ... wha ... wake up man ...it's just a dream ... it's OK ....get with it .......

F.Dev - what ya' say, 2025 could be great year *, a paid DLC with this as the core, you know it'll make you some spondulicks!

*edit: Ok announce it in 2025 and deliver it perhaps by mid 2027

@Keloot, I think you might be replying to the wrong thread ... (or are you planning dominion of more than one thread concerning EDO topics ?

I dont disagree with you about current performance it is fine (on my PC at least) , however you are wrong to tar people with a Yamiks brush or spreading fake news for saying it was terrible at launch. Some how it seems you have a unicorn pc ... maybe your rig mirrors one of the testing ones in FD or something but i assure you it ran terribly on my at the time v high end rig at launch.
I make my own mind up on things Elite Dangerous related. You are free to disagree but my opinions are my own made of my own experiences

(AMD 5800x with an RTX 3090)

David Braden apologised for the state of Odyssey on release.

But that was years ago now .... and EDO has been updated and improved upon. Crikey, if there still are folks who have major perf issues ..... that sucks if true!
Surely, this old line of discussion has been done to death (or more obviously it has not) .

Anyway, back to my dream .....

So then there's animals to trap and do science on, some of which will eat you and even some of the flora is deadly if you are no careful. Corrosive sap if it gets on you no only means you better have meds available but it'll eat your space suit and have you in a right mess ..... and

Hey .. wake up you fool !

You play too much No Man's Sky :ROFLMAO:
No, but I get it. We actually already have some of that stuff, it's just not represented in the most immersing fashion. I.e. There are tenuous ammonia, sulfur, methane (?) etc. What we need to go along with some of that are ammonia and sulfur lakes/ pools/ cauldrons, and things like caves with potentially more vegetation and life in them etc. For example, ammonia and methane could give way to carbon based life. That's how it started on Earth. Earth's atmosphere was a noxious Methane/ Ammonia combo, but even in the later times of all that, it wouldn't have been unfathomable that one could probably go down to the deeper places of the earth and there might have been more than just microbial life forming, especially if water/ moisture was present there. It would be sweet to see lakes of methane and the like...and real volcanos--even the kind that spray ice into space.

I don't want any new content that doesn't include the following:

1. Determine why every new content release breaks something old
2. Correct what was found in step 1
3. Permanently fix old features that were broken by newer content

ED is at a point where a major bug-fix release could be considered DLC.

I still dream of the day I have to use windscreen wipers on my ship, to clear the water droplets from my cockpit ❤️
(Volumetric clouds would be nice too!)
Ah so you want the Heart Of Gold's escape pod craft. I want one of those! It'd be perfect for planetary exploration. We could have it as an SLF.

david bredon is removed from everything in elite he dosent existe anymore so his own comments are irrelevent. he sayd the game runs well on his 980 pc. at that time the gpu was 6 or 8 years old..... again he apologised for no reason.
