Dodging NPC pirates by relogging

You log out to avoid NPC pirates? This is incredibly lame. I play in solo, smuggling with stacked missions in a Python. The chase from the pirates and cops are the best part of the game. Without them, the game would be beyond boring. Why do you even bother playing?

I don't have a Python for the moment, farming cash for it, but I tried some loadout on Coriolis.io to see.
You can take a little shield + booster with 276T of cargo, I think that's fair enough and you should be able to escape interdiction.
Clipper might be a problem sure, then you take a bigger shield and more boosters ^^

Something like this doesn't sound so bad no ? http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/05D6D5A4D6D6D5C-----040404-050505040445020201.Iw18eQ==.Aw18eQ==
Or even this : http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/05C6D5A4D6D6D4C1b1b-1b1b040404-050505040445020201.Iw18eQ==.IwBj4yoo (need a little more than 16LY jump for my route ^^)

Guys - you know that this topic of open vs solo vs groups has its own thread.

Don't turn this thread into a copy... every time that happens it doesn't have a happy ending :)

Yes, that can be fun, when I'm playing with a kit where I won't die easily. When I'm grinding for credits to kit out a ship proper, getting interdicted and subsequently risking losing my ship and cargo, is no fun whatsoever.

...who doesn't do this?

lol :)

Ya, this is the route I'm going next time I kit for trading.

<post removed>

No clue, but as Mobius is PvE only (so no PvPers are getting griefed as a result), I'd be surprised if they truly cared, aside from a moralist high-horse stance.
If they booted me for this, I'd just play Solo then. I only play in Mobius to have a slightly better chance of seeing other CMDRs. As is, the last time I saw any CMDRs was in the Cayutorme CG, otherwise I never see anyone. So it's essentially Solo anyhow.

You do know that FD has said they are monitoring this type of behaviour....and although they have not acted on it yet...they promise that there will be penalties as soon as they collect their data.
You posting this, should put a red flag on your account so it may be monitored by FD for this type of action.

its clearly a mechanic that FD does not want you to use...and most of the player base knows this...for some reason, I feel you posting this topic is in a sense a "troll" thread....because you clearly knew what you are doing is against the spirit of the game.

Maybe try another setup? Seriously, this is kind of weak. Wouldn't it be funnier to give those NPCs some he'll when they try to get you?
Speaking for myself and not the OP, no, not really. Every minute an NPC delays me hurts my profits more than the last minute. Get into an actual fight and there might be repairs that totally destroy profit.

Can I just ask... what do you get out of the game? Do you just like collecting stuff and accumulating virtual wealth?
Again, speaking for myself and not the OP, yes. Mostly though I enjoy playing the part of space trucker and flying my ship. Frontier could remove combat entirely and I'd still have fun with the game.

Everyone has their own opinion. Similarly with the Sothis missions thread(s) + relogging, some people consider it an exploit, others consider it valid gameplay due to lacking in-game mechanics.
As I've already said (several times now, but people keep posting that haven't actually read things through), next time I kit out for trading, I'll go with at least a low-ranked shield to cover-my-ass for escaping an interdiction, which would then make it unnecessary for me to even employ this log-off-prior-to-interdiction tactic.

If FDev penalizes me for this, whatever, so be it. But then I'd expect they'd also penalize people that took advantage of the Sothis feature/bug. Instead, they patched a gap in their current implementation, which would be the logical approach here (if considered a gap/exploit/whatever by FDev).

The game gives you other methods to avoid loss or hurt to your ship...I do not believe combat logging is one of them.

There is a HUGE difference here...

YOU come to the forums and admit a behaviour that is frowned upon by the devs of this game..

if there are exploits and other unethical game play going on...its not as visible as you posting your combat logging game play behaviour.

and another difference...FD has clearly stated what you are doing is against the spirit of the game....they did not address the CG situation....but I do know they addressed what you are doing as a negative mechanic.

I'm not a forum regular, so I'm not aware of threads about this. As such, I've not seen any posts on it at all by FDev.
And, I'm not combat logging. Feel free to call it something else, but combat logging is a slightly different scenario.

There's no clarifying it. You're combat logging from NPCs. LOL

The game is called Elite DANGEROUS. It's time you step up to the plate and learn to be a real man.
"Real man" and "Video game" are two phrases that will never go together. There is nothing manly to be done in a virtual world, safely ensconced in your warm house behind your keyboard with caffeine and snacks at the ready. I'm a pacifist in ED, and anything but IRL.

Logging out to make a Doctors appointment is one thing.
Logging out to avoid combat is another.
The game allows you to do both...but as they collect data and see the only time you log out is to avoid combat, ...you can not cover that fact.
Call it what you want...but logging out to avoid combat is still combat logging.

I don't envy the person who has to track the stats on every time an NPC shows an interest in your cargo, prior to an interdiction even starting, and the user then logging off. Doesn't seem a fun metric to track, since it's likely a fuzzier search.
But whatever, it's FDev's game, they can do what they want.

Don't spread disinformation. He's in no trouble whatsoever. FD has made it clear that they consider logging out via the menu, even in the middle of combat to be in their words, a graceful exit. Frontier has been equally clear that cutting the connection and force quitting are the only methods of logging off that they consider to be an exploit. Your comments should be removed lest they be believed by someone who doesn't know any better.

It is not combat logging in Frontier's eyes (the only ones that matter) if you log out via the menu. It does however somehow manage to offend a substantial number of pvp fanatics who are certain that their way is the only way, and I'm just fine with that. Let them stay offended.

Nicely said :)
