Does Elite Dangerous need FPS content?

I don't think there is a single instance of FD taking feedback and then making further changes.
What you think versus what is reality are two different things. It’s just plain false to say they have implemented no change based on feedback. Fleet carriers is the first example that comes to my mind. They were originally wing based, then they changed to personal fleet carriers based on feedback

Oh man, how the worm has turned, it only seems a few weeks ago y'all was laughingly whinging about our blinky avatars for VR....

You got your VR bud, now it’s my turn for the blinking avatar 😜

I’ve also stated multiple times I’m against dragging out releases because of whinging... even if I don’t like the result. Get stuff out the door and roll forward. No matter what, people are going to complain. Might as well keep moving the game forward.

I, from time to time, play FPS games. Enjoy them even. But.....I'm not sure this game needed FPS content added on.
I don't like a lot of FPS games because they can be very unrealistic. All FPS games normally have some form of difficulty but the more unrealistic they are the less inclined I am to learn how to win at them. Some examples being Apex Legends or Counterstrike where you see all the "good" players bounce around like they have ants in their pants to avoid getting shot. It's not a skill I want to learn so I don't play those games. I'm hoping Odyssey will be different... 🤔 If not, at least there's the exploration side of things and walking on planets.

I'm just gonna parrott myself like the old geezer I am:
Strappping a gun to the SRV didn't lead to any intersting gameplay, and I dont think strapping a gun to legs is going to offer much either.
-I got the Horizons expansion so I could land on planets and drive around in the SRV - can you imagine the game without this?
-I will get the Oddesey expansions because of atmospheric planets and legs - I'm sure we can't imagine the game without this when time has passed.

I think the content is much needed.
ED is beautiful, very detailed and fun, but varied - it is not.

Space legs adds a new social element, a new immersion experience, and a new method of doing the old. You don’t need to partake in it if you don’t want to, and yes other areas of the game need reworking and fixing foremost, but Odyssey is the only natural way forward to provide the experience that FDev have always wanted us to experience - living in a distant future.

Not quite, we've 3/4 got it, see my sig ;-)

Being honest and serious with you bro, I'm waiting to see what the two dev diaries say about interiors, and if there isn't any good news I'll be weighing into that campaign, ship interiors and EVA are a big part of what has been called space legs for over five years now, if it isn't sitting waiting on us as a nice surprise, I'm going to join your campaign to get it added as an Odyssey update.

There's a campaign to get ship interiors as an Odyssey update? Woohoo!

It's too bad we can't have "carry permits" in Odyssey FPS, where you need to go through some training tutorals, just like those for the newbie pilots in Elite and complete them before you can buy a personal weapon. Then Frontier could design them to educate everyone on the "crime & punishment" aspect of weapon ownership.

Not unlike all the complaints about seal clubbing, ramming, station blocking, pad blocking, all those things Frontier had to address because some folks though it would be fun to ruin someone else's game experience. Don't for one second believe that giving everyone a weapon from day one will not lead to Frontier having to address these same issues with "crime & punishment" later on because the same things will happen.

For once, I would like to see Frontier get ahead of the ball here and address these issues now, before they become issues which need to be addressed later. Frontier could do this from day one by having "tutorals" which must be completed first, educating users on what is expected in FPS game-play, before any of you fanatics get a weapon.

I fully expect everyone to get shoot at least ten times on day one, with many forum complaints about how unfair it was.

We need Frontier to issue "carry permits" which rely on "crime & punishment" tutorals to be completed before you get your hands on a weapon.

I guess I was hoping for something more......unique from Odyssey? Spacewalks to investigate broken hulls of ships (which are already in the game), taking SRVs into cave systems to find loot and explore what's down there ("what do you mean we get earthquakes down here?!!?") ....I'm looking forward to the next Dev diary which will hopefully make me and this post look silly.
That other space game who's name shall not be spoken on these forums did cave exploration, and that turned out to be a real threat to sleeping pill vendors. Could FDEV do better - perhaps.
I belive you already look silly though, because you forget we get jet-packs. JET-PACKS MAN!!!o_O:LOL::ROFLMAO: Thats gonna make all of us look silly when we try to be the first person to jump into orbit.

I like good fps gameplay. Though to be honest in Elite I will be more interested in :-

Standing on a planet looking up at my ships going "omg its so big !"
JETPACK racing ! I mean come on JETPACKS !!
Meeting people I have played with over the past 5 years and having a drink in a station bar.
Teasing my m8 with "Ohhh yer Nice derriere m8" as he decided to go with a female character.
Attempting to enter orbit using Gas vents and my JETPACK !!
Doing missions with a mix of both Ship and Feet would be awesome. (doing delivery missions in the game we cannot mention was great fun, Fly to pick up outpost, to carry box onto ship, drop box on floor, fly to destination, get up and walk with the box over to the delivery thingy. All the time trying to watch out for other players who might be camping the pick up and delivery zones).
Using forceshell on shields then seeing if I can gain orbit using that plus my JETPACK !!
Salvage EVA would be great.
Getting out my ship anywhere in space would be cool. trying to enter a station via the letter box in my eva suit and its JETPACK !
Watching my team mates pick flowers on a planet, while they listen too some nice relaxing music. meanwhile, I am sitting in my type 10 with 9 Dumbfire missile launchers ready to fire, listening to something like "Let the bodies hit the floor", then unleashing hell :)
Seeing how fast i can go in space using my ...... JETPACK !!!
Meeting my first Thargoid on foot.
Using my JETPACK to escape from my first Thargoid on foot encounter !!

Did I mention JETPACKS ?

Really enjoying Cyberpunk.

Gotta say, dystopian sci-fi FPS is fun.

The problem is things like boarding ships, fixing ships, conversation on ships, putting you hands on cargo in ships, isn't going to be part of Odyssey.

Kind of makes you wonder - why space legs when all of the cool space leggy things related to ships is not going to happen?

At the very least, it will be a huge surge of income for FDev while all the Hardcore FPS Fortnite players realize what they're getting into and crash their ships 20 times trying to dock/undock before getting frustrated and quit.

More money = more dev resources so they can fund the ship interior art team!

Has anyone questioned whether FPS gamers would want a space game tacked onto their chosen genre?

I would say so. If its any longer than a cutscene you're just shooting yourself though.

Infinite warfare wasn't that bad.

Problem is probably the lead in... are you going to do a full tutorialish experience for glorified cutscene? What's it going to be, space game or fps? Apparently you can play elite without ever spaceships in odysee so maybe its an fps. Wonder what the point of building that mechanic will be.

I already know I can’t walk around my own ship. 1st major let down.

What I want to know now is if I can EVA? Can I scavenge derelicit ships? Can I cut my way into a Generation ship and explore it possibly finding horrors I wasn’t prepared for.

If I can’t do things like that then space legs after waiting six years will be a bust for me. I don’t care either way if there is FPS activity or not but if the above type of mechanics are missing, I believe most space leg promoters from the past 6 years will be deeply disappointed.

They also did changes to the FSS due to player feedback. All of this balancing going on right now is due to player feedback.

That's completely misleading, and you're doing a disservice to anyone you're talking with.

What happens for ever feature is frontier have some dials they can adjust, or simple changes they allowed scope for, that if there is a coincidence that players provide feedback on, they are in a position to rebalance the setup.

They don't take feedback and make changes because players ask just a few weeks before a patch is supposed to ship. Is it even reasonable to expect this? Frontier are of the moral configuration to exaggerate and boast much as they can for everything they do, so we can all get confused by public statements they make.. but apart from configuration, frontier don't make changes for players in general. Maybe in the early days but i wasn't around for those.
