I have a question about performance: I bought a gaming laptop just to play elite dangerous. It has an i7-4700HQ CPU, 24GB of RAM, and a nVidia gtx780M gpu with 4GB of video RAM. It runs windows 8.1 64bit with the latest stable nVidia drivers.
Should this computer be able to get the game to 75FPS? I'm saying this because no matter how low I set the graphic options I cannot get over 45FPS when I'm in the hangar (which for some strange reason seems to be one of the toughest places to render). And that's when I'm using the laptop's screen. When I use the rift, it barely gets to 30. When I'm out of the hangar things get a bit better, but still not good enough to play with the rift without things going blurry any time I move my head, which gets old very quickly.
I really would love to be able to get to 75FPS. I don't mind lower quality graphics if I can fully enjoy the rift. I think the immersion more than makes up for the lack of extra graphics effects (also, I haven't really played that many games in the last few years, so the lowest settings on ED still look good enough for me)
Does anybody know if it can be accomplished?
Thanks in advance.
It seems like you should be getting better rates. I have a really old laptop running an amd 6970m and at the lowest graphic settings at 1080p I get 50-80fps in space and usually average over 40fps in a station. This is without a rift btw. Run 3dmark or other benchmarks and see if you're getting comparable scores to others with a 780m
