ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

No updates on the list who got their DK2 yet? :( I'm still waiting... :( And I just ordered 2 days after they made the DK2 pre-order public.

Quick question on the DK2... couldnt read all the 150+ pages here but wanted to understand how does it work for shipping.

The OP seems to suggest that the DK2 is already being shipped to buyers but the very own DK2 page, states shipping will only start in September?

Did I miss an early bird promotion or similar?

Most people that have had theirs ordered in the first few hours.

They've shipped between 5 and 7 thousand rifts by now if their 2.5k a week estimate is to be believed. There were over 10 thousand pre-orders in the first day and a half so it's probably going to be a couple of weeks yet before you see yours.

People who have the DK2 now pre-ordered in within a few hours of it going on sale on March 19th.
They have such a large amount of back orders that if you order one now it won't be here until September.

Pre-orders went up in march. If you ordered on the day you maybe have a DK2 already as they've started to ship. The September delivery date is an estimate of when you'll get one if you order now, though I'd say unless they get a good deal quicker with it, it'll be a longer wait than that.

I am March the 20th, a day after and I have had no notification other than "get ready to receive a full bill soon and check your address details".

I am not expecting anything before September if i am honest. You look at who has had theirs so far and its all the 19th and whilst most people here who ordered on that date have theirs, this is a worldwide product and i fully expect it to be several weeks before they have covered all those who pre-ordered on day 1!

I am also quite worried about motion sickness as I can suffer quite badly in a car. So I might get mine and be selling it not long after if I suffer.

Need a new controller to take to Fantasticon...

Not looking to spend a fortune as I don't know if I can take it back to Saudi...

Thinking x52 or x52 pro... Anyone using these with the DK2?

Not yet. But I can certainly bring along my x52 (non-Pro) if it would help.

I had a dabble with an x52 standard.

it was fantastic........ but just lacking a little in buttons.,

This is not an issue for standard monitor play, but, I decided to cough up the extra £40 and go for an X55 as opposed to an X52 for play in the Rift.

It's a just a case of the Unity engine spitting out two versions of the project, one of which has "directtorift" in it's title and will automatically render to the rift screen, whether it's in extended or direct mode.

It's not an app that does something on a general level.

I guessed as much, the Helix coaster demo should have one but the version I downloaded didn't so I was a bit :S.

Thanks for the offer, but id like to pick something up... :)

Grabbed a x52Pro off ebay, works really well. Some muscle memory required :)

I set the pinky switch to be a shift function to easily double the buttons. So now I only take my hands off to pick up the x360 in the Galaxy Map.

So no issues for sure - you can probably still get one cheaper than the X55s are going for.

BTW, I have an old i7 (3.1Ghz), a gtx680 and 12 MB RAM.

I have full high graphic settings on for 1920x1080 and the game usually hovers around the 80-110 FPS mark solidly except when I am inside stations where it drops to around 60-70.

In Beta Premium I also had huge FPS drops when nearby gas giants to around 20-30 FPS and asteroid fields were typically also around 40-50 in Beta Premium. Havent seen gas giants related FPS drops since Beta 1 started but I havent visited asteroids fields yet.

I suspect I may have to tweak some of my graphics settings down to ensure the DK2 can deliver smoothly. Any suggetsions whch settings are the best to start tweaking first?

Motion sickness has not been a problem for me in ED. On the Helix roller coaster however, I felt quite queasy.
