Congratulations BD... So has mine!

On the mobile so can't update the lovely list. Not many to go now. It's great the ED OR community is growing so well both with people who buy rift for ED but now even more people who have a rift and are buying ED due to the all the positive noise.

Can't remember having been quite so excited about a bit of tech for ages. I pretty much bought it for ED alone. It is the killer app for it by far!

Morning all,

Got my hands on ED the other day, and bar from spending the first day figuring out how to fly, I had a go with my DK2 last night.

After finally getting it showing up correctly, the only issue I have is the headtracking is jittery, and seems like there is some kind of motion blur meaning I have to keep perfectly still to be able to read text.

Is this normal or is something wrong?
I've followed the tips posted on here and reddit, using the Oculus service manager, and Nvidia control panel.

Any pointers?

Dodge

PC Specs:
i7 950 @3ghz
10-12gb Ram (New PC forgot the specs!)
Nvidia GTX 460 v2

I have jitters when I'm below 75fps, but that is only when I'm in stations or near asteroid fields. Out in space it's smooth.

I'm running an OC GTX670 and an OC i53570 @4,2ghz and 16gb RAM on LOW settings.

I have not played since the last update - desperately trying to minimise use - however it has been flawless for me.

are you sure your camera is positioned correctly. I have found some software seems more fussy on the camera positioning than others.

The camera is in the same spot as last time, at first I thought it was my sealing lights that interfered with the IR camera but after adjusting them the problem is still there.

Will have a dabble on low

(so very tempted to fake illness and leave work early!)

You're not too far in front of me.
There's still hope, There's still hope!!! :)

The horror genre is something I'm really looking forward to with the Rift... got my eye firmly fixed on Alien Isolation too which should be out around the time my DK2 arrives.

Don't hold your breath on A:I with Oculus Rift support. They haven't announced anything and I'd be surprised if they released a DK2 demo to the public.

Yeah Alien dosent look like its going to happen at this time, although the devs said their really keen on the idea so maybe it gets patched in at some point after launch.

How about aliens inside our elite ships when we get to walk around them instead :)

Is playing ED with OR anything like playing it on a regular monitor with 1024X768 resolution? Or maybe it's not comparable at all?

There are two causes of jitter/judder on head movement. One is a lack of FPS and one is a Oculus SDK problem. Based on your specs it could be either.

Put all your settings on the lowest (especially shadows) , take a super cruise flight and drop out in the middle of no where. Make sure your aren't close to planets/stars. Now if you look around and there is no jitter - your problem comes from not enough FPS (imo)

If looking around still jitters when you should be able to get smooth performance you can try a frame limiter. There are also lots of other experiments you can try - ultimately there is a driver issue. Last night my game play was smooth (using a frame limiter) but I have no idea what to expect tonight.
Options people have tried/recommended:
  • Make sure F.Lux is off/Safe mode if you have it
  • Rollback/Update your NVIDIA drivers
  • Over clock your CPU/GPU
  • Make your DK2 Primary/Secondary/Only monitor (there are known issues with multi monitor + DK2)
  • Triple buffering off/on
  • Frame limiter

There might be more I missed, reddit is a good place to look.

RE:Frame limiter - last night my game play was smooth with this. I disabled VSync in game and in NVIDIA. Then using a program called DxTory I limited video FPS to 75. Other Frame limiters exists - I don't know much about this tech

Good luck
