Currently I'm running Windows 8, but I'm wondering, would Windows 7 give better performance? Still waiting for the rift, but want to be absolutely ready once it appears at my doorstep. So, win7 or win8 (disregarding the whole interface thing of win8)

The DK2 is pretty much behaving like I expected, it really is fantastic to finally be able to lean towards all the UI panels and be able to read all the small text :)

Is that double the frame rate compared to Premium Beta 1?

Or...

Does your frame rate change depending on if you are using the DK1 or DK2?

DK1 vs DK2. We are both getting double the framerate using a DK2, on the same version of the beta, in the exact same spot, compared to when we were using our DK1's earlier in the week :)

That's encouraging to hear.

What about if you use your DK1 and DK2 in the same spot right now, would you get a difference in frame rate?

Might just be the way I read your post, it seemed as though you said your DK1 gave you xx fps earlier in the week, and your DK2 is giving you yy fps today. :D

Thanks for clarifying.

I'd sure be interested to know what causes that difference.

The conclusion we came to earlier in the thread was based on the FOV being greater and the aspect ratio being different on the DK1, thus more pixels for it to render when compared to the DK2 (despite the final display resolution being the same 1080p), thus the game runs slower.

That would make sense.

I've been a bit concerned that my DK1 only runs at around 40 to 50fps on my GTX 780, so that's put me off getting a DK2. This could change things.

What sort of fps increase are you seeing?

I was getting 35-37 in the station with everything on high except shadows (AA on lowest) now I get 70-75. SO not quite double but very close.

Pegged at 75 everywhere else and I could almost certainly achieve 75 in the station if I tweak more but it is fine at almost 75

Any top tips on getting Oculus DK2 working?

Received my DK2 yesterday.

So far I can't get ED working in direct mode and have to use extended desktop. Additionally, the headtracking doesn't seem to come on in this mode.

Any tips for resolution etc? (Although ED only seems to allow me to choose the 1000x948(?) resolution.

BTW - what is going in with the RGB separation away from the centre of the screen? Everything looks like a rainbow! This didn't happen in DK1.

Framerate drop

Getting some crazy results today...

1.Docked in Chango
2. Using Playclaw 5 to monitor fps, CPU and GPU
3. Flying a cobra
4. When I turn around and look inside the cobra , I get a frame rate drop of 20 / 30 fps !

I have stopped looking at frame rates now. Seems simpler not to worry about them unitil things have settled down. I notice varying amounts of judder in stations but nothing outside. I did notice that the Type 6 seems worse than the Cobra and that Wyrd (sp) has the worse interior judder so far!
