ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

That works. But X-52 has the lovely thumbstick also. Does Elite Dangerous not recognize it yet? It would be excellent if it could be used for vertical & lateral thrusters. Is the thumbstick on the X-52 analog or digital?

While I can map the thumbstick, I have never gotten used to it. The thing always respond in weird and wonderful ways to any attempts at my using it for navigation where directions always end up anywhere but where I want it to go. ;)

Interesting.. is it bindable as two axes? It shouldn't be difficult to get it working the way you want it to :)

It's not the binding. :)

Trouble is that as you move the throttle the angle for your up/down/left/right also rotates from even to almost vertical. It feels like constantly trying to move a mouse cursor while changing your (fixed) monitor display from landscape to portrait and back (as you move thr throttle back and forth).

Whilst you can probably fix your throttle position (to full open) while in the galaxy screen, I find this annoying enough to just ignore the thumb stick (and I must also say I hate the things on laptops...).

:D

The thumb stick you have, you say is similar to things on laptops.. you mean that little red spungy button that you find on some IBM Thinkpads?

Then it's not like my microstick at all. The microstick I have is two proper analog axes. Though after about 9 years of wear and tear, I had to open it up today and repair the microstick. That did help though :)

Hi
I notice that after 10 or 15 mins my eyesight start to get blurry while playing ED with the DK2. Can anyone give me some advice to overcome this ?

Adjust your IPD in the Oculus config utility. My recommendation is to go to an optometrist and get it professionally measured w/ eye exam, that way you can be 100% accurate.

This may seem extreme, and is not a replacement for good medical advice, but it's a lot more fun.

Ride a motorcycle, the faster the better. The exercise your eyes get watching out for other vehicles, people and things is great for them.

Riding a motorcycle in Miami and asking to be killed is the same thing

Has anyone taken the plunge and upgraded to the latest firmware, drivers for the oculus. I had heard of some people having problems with it and wondered if it was worth the trouble to upgrade.

Be careful getting your IPD measured by an optometrist. Most measure it by having you look at something close, which changes your IPD. The Oculus tool measures it at infinity, which will be a different measurement.

See this thread's top reply for more information.

I have and don't have any issues. Really need FD to start using the 0.4 SDK though and hope we see this in beta2.

I'm using the lasted firmware (I think, I've not upgraded it in the last 2 weeks), but I rolled back from 4.1 to 4.0 because of issues. I'm hoping that 4.2 will be better, but since 4.0 works, I'm not inclined to <Ahem> about with it till Beta 2.

I've only ever used the most recent runtime/firmware (only got my Rift last Friday). All good here :)
