The forum won't let me post a link but if you go to the CNet web site, search for Elite Dangerous and read the article titled: Gamer captains an amazing starship from his living room

Note: The article also includes the YouTube video

Excerpt from the article:
The setup also includes a custom touch interface dashboard, comprising three Treckstor Ventos 10.1 SurfTabs, running on Roccat Power-Grid software; voice commands available using VoiceAttack software; head tracking and gesture control using TrackIR and Leap Motion respectively; a Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS joystick and Logitech G19 keyboard; a Crossfire2x Sapphire RADEON R9 290 Tri -X OC video card with AMD Eyefinity, resolution 5,760x1,080; and sound via a Logitech Z-5500 5.1 surround system.

I do like your idea of have an entire side panel on a tablet or 2nd/3rd monitor
Tnx; I have found it (here is link for rest: http://www.cnet.com/news/gamer-captains-an-amazing-starship-from-his-living-room/)
But his displays are nothing else but fancy buttons mapped to different actions (lower gear, open cargo scoop, open galaxy map, etc). For side panels he still has to switch to left or right (with not always working voice commands) and control them via buttons.

On practical side, i'm sure that current control of menus is faster than it would be via touch screen, so It's not necessary to have that feature; but it would be nice to have feature to have side panels always displayed on side monitors, so that you can always see info on them (for example, to have always displayed contact list, so that you don't have to open panel to see what bounty currently selected contact has)

Yeah, this is getting silly. If it's hard to code for Android why did they release the game on the PC instead of going Mac exlusive...

Same here, feeling excited! Can I just start by saying what a great game this is! Starting to level up a bit now and really enjoying all the different aspects of Gameplay :). Conflict zone enemy kills needs to be per ship per rank but I won't go into that now :).

I'm an Android user and frequently use my phone for the Internet and spreadsheets whilst playing ED. I'm looking forward to using a dedicated app along my ED set up. I find it a little dissapointing that there hasn't been any indication of release from the devs.

I appreciate it might still be in awaiting some contract to go ahead in order to use Chrome perhaps or some other business related delay... but can we be advised on 'if' we're waiting on something and when we could expect an update please?... Even an update to simply tell us we'll have to wait until a later date! It'd be much appreciated by all the ED Android fans :)

Cheers,
Commander Evolution

Android extra screen / controls?

I'm googling this at the moment, I know that you can use an android device as an extra screen - but does anybody know how to use an android as an extra controller - bind keys to it? You could literally have an enterprise style touch screen along side your joystick. Anybody know of such an app?

Good God that was a fast reply - I just had found it and was going to add it to the thread - Thank you for the speedy reply!

Elite Traders Calc/Timer for Android

Greetings Commanders!

After reading the forum for some time and playing this wonderful game using some of the nice tools the community created i decided to contribute something myself.
So... as im lazy.. copy & pase of the play store text.

-----

I created this timer app to judge and compare the profit potential of my trading routes in the game Elite Dangerous.
It was build primarily to fit my own needs but in the end i thought it may be beneficial for others too.
The idea is to time one trade run from one station to the other and back. With the credit difference and the cargo space the app can tell you in the end how much money you make in one hour or in one hour per cargo.

So you can now time all your trade routes this way and in the end you can see which one yields more credits.
The app has a log file to record your routes. You can edit this log and add notes i.e. the commodity's or stations. (Save via options menue)
You can share this file to i.e. Dropbox or Evernote or the contents of it to i.e. WhatsApp.

Why not only fly the routes with the most profit per cargo?
It's not so obvious which route yields more in the end. You need to time each one to compare.
Once i found a route with Palladium one way (1650cr) and Progenitor Cells (1361cr) away the way back which is 3011cr per cargo profit. This route 2 jumps and had one terminal. Distances were 1000Ls and 60Ls.
My "home" route was Superconductors (1281cr) and Resonating Seperators (1213cr) on the way back. It was only one jump. Distances were 200Ls and 80Ls.
I always thought this one jump would not count so much and the distances difference is not so big and the first route would be by far the better choice, in the end it was NOT.
15min for route one and 10min for my home route.
1.445,280cr per hour for route one and 1.795,680cr per hour for the second!
12,044cr per hour per cargo for route one and 14,964cr for the second!

Any update on the Android/Win App?

As the Subject Title says really.
The iPhone version of the app was released a couple of months ago now.

Cheers

I have no idea why FD didn't just do the Android app first. And after all this while, still no sign or news of it.

See the bold text in the External API Requirements Thread:

Hi everyone,

Following up on our plan to investigate support for third party apps utilising game and player information we’re starting with the requirements capture. In this thread we will compile the wish list for the types of data people would like to see available from an API available to external apps. If you have a specific app in mind then that can make a useful test case to accompany the data requirements – it’s always useful to see real world examples of how the data is to be used.

This same process will also help guide our plans for our own apps and so we’re pausing development of expansion of the Android and Windows Phone versions of our existing Companion App until this process is complete.

Please note that this thread isn’t about discussing the merits of third party apps.

We’ll leave this thread open until February 16th. After this point we’ll review the information and put together our initial proposal. This will cover two aspects: the first is the technical design for the API and the second is the procedure for using this data. During this process we’ll also invite people based on participation in thread and other communications to form a small working group.

When the proposal is ready the private group will provide feedback on the plan, and will go on to assist in testing the system and the associated procedures as appropriate when we enter development of the API.

We’ll keep you informed as we progress and thanks in advance for your participation in this!

Michael

Now what WOULD be awesome is the ability to run a couple of Android tablets (for cheapness!) to mimic the in-game holoscreens for Nav/Contacts and Status/Modules/Firegroups. Now you can pick up tablets for peanuts, having these screens live and at your fingertips would be pretty cool!

In the meantime, here's my +1 for an Androind app that does something. Anything.

What can I say, I love my gadgets!
