P.S. Single player version = bleh

I disagree on this. Whilst my preference is to play "all group" or maybe "ironman" I can see the need for a single-player online/offline.

Multiplayer ain't for everyone. Moreover if you are (say) on a train a lot, or serving overseas away from the internet you can still play. Sure, a different experience but you can still play.

I can fire up a single player game and pretend it's a simulator, to practice docking, or not being instantly shot up the first time I turn FA off.

I think this is a good decision. Look at the mess over at EA/Maxis on forcing every last player of the new SimCity to go online. So much so that a complete backtrack has been done to allow solo offline play.

Don't mean to moan (in fact I do) but.....

It's a bit naff really!
I can't log in, I can't access the alpha forum, I can't feedback regarding the alpha except here.

I've paid £200 and wish I hadn't.

I'm not against the game, it's simply that I'm not able to access it or comment on it! I'm not an alpha tester if I can't do either of the above! SORT YOUR ACT OUT! (...and yes I'm clicking the exclamation mark icon before posting)!

You may have to wait till Monday until you get a response from Ashley, unless they are up in the weekends.

Hang in there, it will be solved.

I experienced a similar issue with access to the forums, but not with logging on the the launcher. If, too, purchased on a Friday and it was Monday until it was sorted out. I admit to being quite anxious about it at the time but Ashley will sort it out by Monday at the latest.

In the meantime, I would be glad to try to help you get the launcher running- If you can download it you should be able to log in. Shoot me a PM if you would like me to try to help (and what the version number is in the lower right of the launcher).

This sort of thing always seems to happen over weekends. It's to be expected really and I wouldn't want to be hassled at weekends by work colleagues so I would suggest looking at it from that perspective and look forward to Monday.

I had the same issue with forum access, bought the alpha late on a friday and didnt have access until monday midday.

No Big thing! I expected that the access would take until after the weekend to sort out.

Had no bother with downloading or getting the Alpha to launch - theres a few threads on it and the email i got answered a bit more.

Could maybe do with an instruction email for getting new people started in the alpha though. I dont recall getting one but then id read pretty much everything here in the weeks leading up to buying.

I have had no problem in accessing the game, apart from waiting about 15mins for the original unlock code to come thru, the launcher works fine.

I don't have access to the alpha forum, I have sent Ashley a pm, but honestly, I'm in no rush, so if he gets back to me next week, all well and good. People do have lives outside of ED.... Apparently. :)

Actually I disagree with that and that's not just a dig at FD, many web based businesses are guilty of the same thing. And neither am I suggesting that anyone gets dragged into the office over the weekend to sort things out.

That said, I do think that in today's 24/7 buy it and have it now culture, if you setup a website that can take the money instantly on a promise of instant deliverability then you really should provide instant support if there is an issue.

Of course if you only take payment on succesful delivery or you tell people up front at the point of sale that they'll have to wait if there is a problem then it's not unreasonable to expect people to wait.

Sorry if this has been addressed before or if this is the wrong forum section to ask this.

I was wondering how they would handle servers for online gameplay. A popular space trading game I am currently playing does everything on one server, which makes it unique, and in my opinion, this is a great trait. I really hate how some games are spread out over 50+ servers.

Has there been any info on this?

P.S. Single player version = bleh

Interesting... you've not yet played the game, yet you've come to the conclusion that the SP version will be 'bleh'. Tell me, where did you get your crystal ball?

Thank you - I have managed to update my client now. Still waiting for access to the forum though (since mid-December)... I guess a few more days won't matter. :D

Thanks for the replies, people. All in all it is good news. Yes, latency in the UK / Australia/ Middle East etc. would surely be a problem. I have NBN optic fibre internet, but of course that would not help if server-side is slow.

About my "single player = bleh" comment, don't take it too seriously. It is only my own personal opinion and I am sure it suits many people perfectly. Just not myself. So calm down :) I have no crystal ball.

Seriously - paid up on December 18th. A bit peeved with the fact that the alpha phase is of finite length and I haven't truly taken part yet (despite my expense).

Mid-December? That makes a month. It is very long. Certainly a problem with your account. You should send a post to Ashley

"Unexpected response from server :ServiceUnavailable"

Might have been covered already, i did search but didn't see anything that wasnt a month old.

The past few days I've had the issue when i try to log in i get this message
"Unexpected response from server : ServiceUnavailable"

and thats it. been like that a few days now game worked fine up until last week. Any suggestions would be nice and sorry if this issue has been posted before.
