this sounds like it could be a firewall/routing issue. make sure the client has full public internet access via windows firewall and that either UPnP is enabled on your router or you have forwarded a port to the machine you play on as per the connection issues thread.
I have this same problem. Stuck with a viper. Selling the items 1 at a time had no affect.
I even tried stripping the ship, and then self destruct. I'd rather not have to start over...I spent a lot of time getting the credits to get the viper, just to throw it away...and select sidewinder in the insurance window.

Firewall/Routing issues are absolute. If a rule or routing protocol of some type were preventing me from reaching the server, I would guess I would not be able to launch the game in the first place - as it's the same IP address I am trying to connect to.

I just sold everything I changed and it dosent make a difference, I only added cargo hold to lakon no changes to engines thrusters shields etc now I cant sell it.
I got stuck in the Lakon aswell.
what I ended up doing was selling everything back to as close to original as possible and then suiciding and not replacing my old systems with insurance, just the hull. Then I think I logged off and on, then I could change ships. I tried a lot of things so I can't be certain what made it work...Pheyes

Just the hull was pretty cheap, 12k I think.

but what was its value after that? how much money did you lose???
If you take the insurance for just the hull, you get a "new" ship so its value is the same as if you just bought it without upgrading anything. 900ish k credits?
I can count firewall out - its disabled (advantage of a dedicated gaming machine I do nothing but elite on this PC).
I can't discount a router issue I am double nat'd due to a change in internet service I will test without that later but will disrupt my home network more than I can deal with tonight. I'm not sure if I can force the ISP router to do everything my home router has been doing and the ISP router is a pain to configure.

Yep exactly the same here, add me to the kill list if it doesn't get fixed asap.

Ok so I tried to kill myself in the station by hitting boost off the launch pad and guess what I had slowed down so much by the time I hit the letterbox it didn't kill me, so I boosted right next to it and it killed me bought a new Lakon 6 with insurance cost me 56k and it still server denied me, FML I am going to give up until next patch is out.
When I tried self destruct earlier (in the functions menu, right UI panel), and using insurance to buy stock design, still wouldn't allow me to sell it. So far nothing has worked. Which is very weird, because I went through an Eagle before the Viper, and decked it out on the way, so customizing it didn't cause an issue.
Same here, after exploring some systems in my upgraded viper i wanted to downgrade to a hauler again.
Trade in would be -110k Cr. but server keeps denying request.
After reading that your attempts of stripping the ship didn't work either, i guess i'll have to keep the viper as it is until i can afford the Cobra before commiting suic... self destruction
