Awww, that's - n - o - t - a good thing, but ...I suppose understandable
 
I think the vision is that this is something you might do on rare occasions and not the be all end all way of making money in the game (which it currently seems to be for many people).

It wasn't THE way to make credits.
Even with sitting around at one port, filling up your cargohold, it took hours to do so.
Up to the point when it became even less profitable compared to trading normal goods, depending on your cargohold size.
It was just another option instead of trucking between 2 stations over and over, for the same amount of hours, for the same amount of profit.
 
If these changes will make rare goods actually rare, I think that sounds like an excellent change!

Trading rares should not be a career option, simply something that you come across occasionally. Waiting around in stations for a respawn timer does not encourage fun or interesting gameplay.

My next suggested change would be that bulk traders in rare and expensive goods should have a much higher chance of encountering pirates. :D
 
Rares are ok (as of latest patch). You can wait and refill if you want. They refresh every 10 mins. Some stations have higher stocks than others and the amount is a bit randomized, so i think its possible sometimes some will show zero. Wait 10 mins and something should appear.

What it means now is, you can no longer fill your hold to max, fly 120LY and make an easy million.

Now you have two choices. Sit and wait, and every 10 mins add a few more rares to your hold. Fly around a loop of rare systems, taking new on board and selling off those that have gained max value. Or, do some other form of money making.

For example, the other night, was having drinks with the wife, so just every 10 mins, bought another few rares and went back to the conversation. 3 hours later i a) was very drunk and b) had a full cargo hold of rares and c) had trouble flying in a straight line... just glad the SA vessels can't do breathalyzers!

So, rares are now rare... geddit? And can no longer be abused. You can still make a lot of money trading them, but you either take them as part of your overall cargo or be patient with filling up. If you have a small ship, trading in rares is very good. Not good for a big ship though, you are better doing bulk trading runs. I've heard tell you can still make a million or two in just a few hours with a big ship trading regular goods if you find a good route, so you can make money that way.

Mining as far as i know is also highly profitable with the right resources.

Bounty hunting is also highly profitable (although risky).

Exploring is probably the worst for payout, but still worthwhile, and its my favourite pastime in the game.

Have you read the thread? :) that wasn't what anyone was doing since that was WAY less profitable than actually just trading per unit of time spent. What people, including me, seems to have done is use it as an excuse to hang around a system for a while, while enjoying the rush of having 50 tons of expensive stuff while fighting off pirates etc.

I agree that the more expensive your stuff, the more pirates should come after you though! I'd fly around with a haul of gold all day long :D
 
I did post a ticket but on the off-chance Michael or Dev sees this - I noticed last night that you are able to use your D-Scanner even if the module is disabled.

They don't repopulate. Whatever you see your first visit is all you get, until you've sold those.

I was doing it because trading seems pot luck (as documented on other threads) and I'm not that interested in combat/bounty hunting. I was playing the game the way I wanted to play it and actually enjoying it, should have been a sign that it was going to get changed...
 
I don't understand the line about rares !
All I can see is there are no more supply for rares at my system now !

Edward, is it a bug ? Otherwise can you explain this change more precisely, thank you !
