Anyone else hanging at present? I was handing over cqrgo at the completion of a mission and got stuck at the "stand by" stage. When I shut down E : D and reloaded I am stuck at game loading.

No there seems to be a lot of us stuck - looks like they broke something....

Hope it means the damn mission timers get stopped or my rep is well stuffed and I will need to move on !!

Warning, :words:.

I started out in Gamma running mission for faction rep, it was easy money (and good money at that point) but I realised it was only a start. There was lots of space to explore and I had to get out there, so I saved up for a Cobra and then pointed my new ship in a random direction. Eventually, I came across a system with a Pristine belt, so I thought, why not try some mining? My Cobra was still stock, so I fitted a mining laser and refinery and hoped that shooting rocks wasn't like it was in Eve.

Well, it was a bit more involved, but it wasn't exactly exciting. I made enough to fully upgrade my Cobra, but then decided it was time to find something else for a while. Elite's a trading game, right? So I load up Slopey's BPC and try and find some good trading routes. After a few trades, I realise I need a bigger ship, so I buy an Asp and fit it with all cargo holds. The money starts coming in, but after a few dents and bumps I realise the expense of repairing this ship isn't worth the extra cargo space, so I re-fit a shield and grind more trade runs. It's good money - I found a route giving me 2460cr/ton profit so if I just grinded for a bit I could upgrade my Asp. Station to station, dock, load up, undock, hyperspace, dock, sell, load up, undock.... I can handle this for a while, but it's soul-destroying, and not what I remember "space trading" being like from back in '84.

I'm starting to wonder how to make enough to afford a bigger ship, or even just enough to afford the repair bill if I do a bit of combat. I've heard about rare trading but it seems a bit complicated, but nothing's for free, right? So I do a bit of research and decide to do a round-trip of Fed stations to test the water. I load up with some rares and head off across the Galaxy. This is exciting! I'm out of my comfort zone, no Friendly ships around, loads of new systems to explore as I make my way to the next stop. Sure, I'm not making as much money taking the scenic route like this, but damn is it fun! This is what I remember from those late night huddled over my BBC B. A purpose, not just a grind.

So then the nerfbat hits. Now I have to wait for the stock to refresh at each port. After an initial outcry, I realise this isn't so bad. Now I can run some missions while I wait, make some new friends in each port I visit, and as long as I don't take too many risks I can fly around with a hold half-full of rare goods (I can't buy a separate ship to do combat in because you can't store a ship with cargo...). It's not so bad though, I'm making less money - much less than I was making trading even, but I don't care so much, there are still systems to explore and new friends to make.

And now this. Rare trading is now literally pointless, unless you're a new player in a small ship, and even then it's just a stepping stone to a larger ship, which you then won't be able to afford to run. I've championed this game, defended it from the trolls, been called a fanboy, but now I'm starting to wonder what direction the devs are taking. Getting a bigger ship (and being able to afford upgrades and repairs) is a goal most players aspire to, yet that goal is being moved further and further away. I'm sorry to say, but this may be a turning point for me, when I start to lose hope that this game will actually be a keeper.

FD, I'd love to hear some reasoning from you behind the changes to rare trading. So far, there's been no word at all. In Gamma, the changes you made went from one extreme to another, but now they just seem to be heading progressively south.

Although coming to ED later (late beta) and started rare trading after the "unlimited" supply has been removed, it quite perfectly describes my story and I feel exatcly the same way right now. Tendencies are bad.

+1 for it!!

Its not only about rare good changes, its the total picture making me a bit worry. FDEV need to work on communication with the community if don't want to loose them. Its starting to get essential for ED.

Nobody wants a tedious game.

With this nerf, the ONLY thing that isn't tedious now is combat, which isnt even in the consideration for game progression for anyone but a no-lifer who plans to spend there life on this. Exploration is OK, but its not fun to me unless it can be combined with a way to progress. Which is what rae trades where.

I have a job. I am looking for a game. I thought I found one. Seems more like another job.

Combat is for no lifers? That's not most absurd statement I've read so far. Combat is part of the game like any other part of the game, way to generalize there buddy.

u know guys it s good nerf for rares. Other way every silly normander was able to bought Anaconda in a month or even earlier. Rares allways was some kind of exploit and i am glad they finally fixed it. :)

Rares needed a redoing. Waiting at a station for respawn isn't good gameplay. But making them irrelevant is worse. Trade isn't working, so there's nothing left for traders.

I believe he meant that to be able to progress financially in this game, you would need to do combat 24/7 to earn enough. That's how I read it, anyway.

Why do you keep on reducing the profit from trading? Is it one or more of the following?
A. Too many people are solely/mostly trading and not doing any story missions?
B. You make too much money from trading compared to other ways of making money?

From my point of view I want to make millions and millions then start doing the story missions. I am going to keep on doing whatever makes the most money. So if your answer was A, then I am afraid you are going to keep on reducing the reward for the action that pays the most, cause that is what I am going to be doing till I have enough money.

I will get to the story and fighting for some faction part of the game later, muuuuuch later in fact the more you reduce profit, the longer it is going to take me to do the other things to do in the game. I promise I will do all the other things at some point, but for now, trading for money, money, money.

Kind Regards,
CMDR AliceD of the SS DarkRum
So what if people are not doing "story mission?" I don't play 99% of the other MMO's because I could give a @#$% less about their "stories," and they're so wrapped up in their clever "stories," that you just run around following orders instead of playing a game you like for your own reasons.

It looks like the dev's disapprove of any money making and want to nerf the hell out of it. Which is pretty damn bizarre for a "Space Trading," game. Mining pays only until you have a Cobra III, Trading will take you forever to get into a Python let alone an Anaconda, Bounty hunting stops making money pretty much after a Cobra III (getting a 40k bounty with 38k repairs is idiotic so I quit that.) So much for playing the way you want.

Thought it was just me lol. Been bounty hunting for a week and making less (after repairs) than I was in my 1st week in a Sidewinder running missions. Its got to the point where I've stopped paying off fines just so I'm not making a loss

Have some Rep to ease the pain a little, fellow sufferer of the current ludicrous 'pay-wall'.

Same error path here , Upgraded , bought merchandise , jump , jump , dock , try to sell merchandise , ERROR . Restart client - stuck on loading game . Restart computer , stuck on loading game . Try another internet connection - stuck on loading game .

Going to play something else .

For me the old system for rares was not necesarrily the best way to make money but it was a different way to make money. I quite liked the play style of waiting for stock to become available leading up to the moment you are ready to leave and get a big trip underway. Felt more immersive than going from A to B in a loop. Also the gamble of how many rares you would be allocated each 10 mins gave a rewarding feeling. I did used to look forward to seeing 20-25 to pop up on the screen, was a buzz. Buzzes are a good thing in a game!

I think it was a good mechanic, and a different mechanic. Back to lugging super conductors for now. Was it that broken?

Yeah, congrats Frontier, you have now officially made this game a grind fest. But give it some more thought...I'm sure you can increase the grind if you really give it your all.
Now they need to make the ships, fuel, and repairs one or two orders of magnitude higher so that you would have to grind for years to upgrade.

I've yet to see any rare goods (being a fringe explorer type) so I -- as yet -- don't know what all the fuss is about!

rares basically had a low amount, if you go at least 160 ly distance it increase in value, before it would keep restocking if you sat at the station basically in 1 hour you were making about 1.6 mill in a 100 cargo hauler. now that its nerf you get a fix amount, and then you travel and turn it in for 200k thats it.

if you go above 160 yr the price drops a little.

Couldn't agree more. Why are game developers trying to dictate to me how I have my fun? Trading rares requires a ship capable of travelling long distances, at first taking in several fuel stops (I didn't have a scoop), plotting a course to another system was part of the challenge. If anything, the galaxy 'sat nav' has made this less challenging as I used to do this manually.

The amount of income nerfs thus far are staggering.. Why is my balance any concern of yours? Why is that people believe that flying an Anaconda is so sort of end game? This is supposed to be a sand box game... Yet it's going to take months/years to get the toys we want to use to play with said sand? I simply don't get it. There is no end game.. The "biggest, best" ships don't make you any better than anyone else. In fact... I take out Anacondas and Pythons all the time in a Viper.. So that theory need not even be poked at. Rares were fun, before they were nerfed into the ground.. I enjoyed them. It wasn't just about the money.. It was about risk vs. reward and the journey. A 400+ LY round trip.. A lot of fun. Once they nerfed the spawn.. I quit trading completely... Markets were either not working or over saturated to the point where I would either take a loss or the profits weren't worth risking my ship. I also fail to understand why these small issues are being looked at more so than the larger, more game breaking issues. I implore you, FD.. Get your priorities straight.. I love this game.. Most of my friends have already stopped playing until something changes for the better.. And now, with bounty hunting being borked, missions and progression being screwed up.. I am looking at doing the same. A game should not be a job.. But a form of entertainment. Let the flames begin.
