News Elite Dangerous - 2.4 and beyond

Excellent game. Love the way the game plays at the moment. Making exploration even more profitable would help my game, in case you're wondering. Good luck with the work and wish you continued success.

Personally I think the profitability of exploration is fine - I think we simply need more to actually do, to discover, reasons to linger in a system instead of simply jump-honk-jump. I'm sure that will be a key focus within the planned period of core gameplay improvement though.

We’re happy to be able to confirm that the next major updates following 2.4 will focus on core gameplay, existing features, quality of life and other improvements! We’re delighted to be investing a considerable amount of development and effort into making the core gameplay experience even better for our fantastic community or players.

That is seriously great news, I look forward to the details on what those core improvements will be!!!

Major updates on core gameplay???!! I really hope this means you are, in a sense, going back to the drawing board to figure out what you want the player experience to be like.

Right now the core experience lacks something. I really want my pilot to have a story worth telling. I want each system I visit to have a story worth telling too, and to be a part of that story. I want the events of that story to have a real effect on the gameplay opportunities in that system. I hope that there is a big focus on NPCs and Missions, and the systems that let us interact with them to make this possible.

Missions should be stories, or parts of stories that we can dig deeper into if we want to. I don't care if procedurally generated stories feel a bit awkward, they could add so much.

This is a game where everything is realtime. Go play WOW for that kind of experiance. This game is trying to do the exact opposite of what you want. You are insignificant, so is almsot everyone and everything else. Thats things actually are.

Great to see the positive response to the news... exciting times ahead. :D

Great news, thanks to Zac and the FD team ... best forum read since a long time.

Looking forward to any improvements in
Exploration / mining / trading [all the non combat stuff is so much fun]
Powerplay [so much potential for veteran players]
QoL features [like the numerous 3rd party app features that help so much]

Confidence: restored, for now.

This is a very good start. FD have communicated, just like so many of us asked for, in nice (and some people in not so nice) ways.
Keep it up, FD- and you'll see how much goodwill you restore. I'm happy, especially with The Depthening™ they have planned.
Awesome stuff!

Hey Sandro!

I know you can read this.

So please, pretty please, please with cherry on top - do not put your stupid booster nerf idea into this beta. You know what will happen - we anti-nerf people will sink it.

I had some testing plans for both 2.2.03 and 2.3, and both times I was unable to execute said plans due to your failed nerfs. Can I finally get to work in peace, without your "challenges"? Thank you.

Big shields need a nerf. Look forward to your salt about it. I personally can't wait for it.
Ah when skill matters more than RNG rolls
WHAT A DREAM

You would be a very average Jenga player...

Jenga isn't my speed. Multi million dollar homes on the other hand...
Foundations matter. Even in games.

Hello Zac and everyone else over there at the office.

I can't totally express in words how pleased I am to be reading this post of yours! Someone else quoted a portion of this in their own thread and I thought at first it was a joke! Seriously!

This direction is precisely what so many of us have been screaming for, for literally a year and a half now. And as much as we all hoped it would actually happen, I really doubted you guys would seriously consider doing this!

But...It does appear that I am not imagining this. I am not dreaming! I have not OD'ed on my Pain Meds! This thread is REAL, and you guys have seriously taken our suggestions to heart and you are actually going to go back into the core of the code base and finally address all of the QoL issues myself and so many other veteran commanders have been pleading with you guys to focus on!

WOW! I still can't believe this is actually going to happen next!

I'm so glad that myself and my fellow critics stuck to our guns, refused to be silenced by the White Knights and their Apologist cousins and instead continued to hammer home the urgent need for just this kind of point update! [up]

So cool!

I feel vindicated by a factor of 10! :D

P.S. Is there any way to keep all the players who insist ED has no game breaking issues locked in to version 2.3.02 for the duration?

I figure since they always look down their collective noses at my lists of issues claiming such bugs do not exist or require intervention it would be fitting to allow them to stay on 2.3.02 forever. ;) After all, none of the stuff you guys will be improving needs improvement according to them, so they obviously will have no use for the 2.4> updates. ;)

Try not to complain overmuch, but since I have once or twice.... It is only fair to chime in on the other side as well. Thanks for the update guys, silence can sometimes be so nerve wracking when you are finally in a game you like again. I appreciate that you're busy actually working on the game, but hearing you talk about it is nice too.

Greetings Commanders,

It’s a very exciting time to be part of the Elite Dangerous galaxy. On June 27 we will welcome even more Commanders to the galaxy with the PlayStation 4 launch. These new players will join the ranks of our already incredibly active, passionate and dedicated community.

Since the launch of Elite Dangerous: The Commanders a number of weeks ago, we’ve received messages from members of the community eagerly awaiting details about the 2.4 update and the future of the game. I’m pleased to be able to share with you a little more detail on what’s to come in the short term and slightly longer term with Elite Dangerous.

2.3.10

The first thing I’d like to share with you is that we will be adding another point update on June 27, this will be for all platforms and will include a number of bug fixes, and stability and networking improvements. This includes the much-requested Anaconda cockpit appearance change and will also introduce greater security for multicrew hosts to be able to disable or limit crew members’ specific activity.

One large element of this point update is a number of “under the hood” fixes which are designed to improve stability and performance, particularly on planet surfaces. This means that we will be looking to run a beta for 2.3.10. However, we do understand that with this being a point update with a number of less visible improvements, it won’t have as many new features to play test. Nonetheless, this testing is very important to make sure the game works as we would expect. Due to the wider and more global nature of this small point update, we will be making the beta open for all and we would welcome your support in joining and spending a few hours playing and helping to ensure the update is as good and stable as it can be.

We’ll have more details on the beta, and exactly how it will work shortly.

2.4 – “????”

Back at EGX in 2015 we showcased the headline features that would be coming to Horizons. However, there’s always been an extra little update, a mystery if you will, that has yet to be revealed.

We’ll be providing a little more information about the update to the community and the press during E3 on June 13th and 14th. We’ll be hosting special community livestreams and activity so stay tuned for more news and updates as we get closer to the date.

I can, however, tell you that this update will be slightly different to previous ones - content will be revealed over time rather than all being available on day one. Additional pieces of exciting content will surface over the coming months as the narrative progresses.

Beyond

So with the Horizon season of expansions coming to a close, what is beyond 2.4 I hear you ask? Well, it certainly isn’t the end of this amazing journey… we’re only just getting started!

Our awesome dev team are dedicated to continuing to build and improve the Elite Dangerous experience with an exciting long term vision in mind. We’re happy to be able to confirm that the next major updates following 2.4 will focus on core gameplay, existing features, quality of life and other improvements! We’re delighted to be investing a considerable amount of development and effort into making the core gameplay experience even better for our fantastic community or players.

We’ll be sharing more news on that content and our roadmap at a very special event coming later in the year - more details on this event will be released in the weeks after E3.

On behalf of the entire Elite Dangerous team, thank you for your continued support. We are very excited to embark on the next part of the journey together as we continue to make Elite Dangerous an even more fantastic game and experience for our incredible community of players.

So, 2.4 is 'The Story Content' update, (read alien war) what else would be revealed in stages.
