News Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy | New Release Date and Release Schedule

If I didn't misunderstand the Buur, PP enemy ships would apparently spawn and attack even if you landed on some far away body in an uninhabited system. Don't think that was the intention of the devs. So if we went on some group trip somewhere and a commander would be pledged, it would probably have ended bad instead of just doing silly stuff together.

Greetings Commanders!

In order to ensure the best possible experience we have made a small change to the release date of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy, to adjust an issue with NPCs still being more aggressive than intended.

Thursday 31 October sees the eagerly awaited release of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy, featuring the new Mandalay exploration ship, Powerplay 2.0 and more!

Here's when things kick off:
  • 06:00 GMT - Maintenance begins and Elite Dangerous servers offline
  • 15:00 GMT - Maintenance complete and Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy is available
Please note that these are approximate times and are subject to change.

Full patch notes will be available alongside the release of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy.

Things to be aware of

  • Powerplay ranks will be reset when Ascendancy is available. You will need to pledge to a Power if you wish to get involved with Powerplay on release.
  • The Mandalay will be available as early access via Arx initially. It will be available for credits in the future.
Y'all managed to take the entire week off I took for this update and delay it alllll the way through to the busiest month for me. I'm extraordinarily displeased FDev.

You act like they are inexperienced devs who can't handle managing npc hostilities. Someone screwed up big time somewhere and they had to clean a whole mess up from the looks of it. Amateur hour.

Rat Catcher is cool and one of the educated guys, don't get triggered by something he didn't actually mean. Screwing up big time is entirely normal in the software business, and three days is nothing. Another story: my wife gave me a 2.2k EUR American Pro II Tele to celebrate our wedding anniversary on Oct 13th, but unfortunately it turned out it had a tone control issue and was sent back to Fender Custom shop for checking. Fender says: three weeks (if you know the Tele wirings, oh wow, custom shop). So it might be a month late, if it ever materializes at all. Making the Mandalay seem pale in comparison. YMMV.

O7,
🙃

I get it man I'm just frustrated because I've never taken time off for a game before, and I really wont have much of any time for the next two months at least.

The reason I am most upset is due to the fact they waited so long to delay it. If they had identified an issue, especially like high npc aggression bad enough to warrant a delay, within a good timeframe and called for a delay, I and others could have made changes to our schedule, which we graciously arranged to support their game.

The issue was discovered by partners using the experimental server last week (maybe the week before - I'm a bit tired so memory isn't great)... Like many bugs, the issue may be triggered by circumstances that were not ran through QA, because actual players do not use a test script.
They didn't wait a long time before announcing a delay, quite the opposite.
The aggression is being picked up by QA this week, apparently, so the AI script needs to be toned down and retested. 2 days is very reasonable to delay it, assuming the 31st does launch the update and the NPCs have been toned down to acceptable, is good going.

Edit: Additional information added

More than intended?

Do we play the same game?

NPC wing mates will happily standby, while I absolutely destroy their lead ship!

If you make them more dorcile, we can ask them to selfdestruct in comms, and they would probably reply "why yes sir on the double" boom "sorry sir"
