Only 100,000,000 credits for testing? I'm sorry, but that is no where near enough to quickly test something with a specific loadout on an expensive ship... you can't even buy a 'conda for that. Unless I'm missing something... I just loaded the beta to see if the prices were lowered at the starting station or something... Looks like a ton of ships are there for sale, but the prices are still sky high... too much to load out anything reasonable. I would like to be able to setup a setup similar to mine in 2.4 (conda with grade 6 fighter bay) to test some of the fighter/mothership switching. I will not, however, invest 10's - 100's of hours of time into grinding out engineers and such just to test out a few of the bugs that I'm personally aware of.
Would be interesting if the contract included a clause whereby termination of said contract would result in a return of profits shared up to a certain percentage based on experience gained (half of their share percentage???)... This would probably require that NPCs had higher one time costs for elite... They're pretty low in 2.4 IMHO. So... if you need credits, terminate the contract, but you lose an experienced employee and have to start over or pay more money to gain one back with the same experience.

For me. I trust EDevs to gives us a good game thru this beta test. They got us this far! What I hope for is that when this Beta goes into the real product is that they now make these new Alliance ships rank locked. For me I have worked on my Alliance Rep since I joined. I accepted the fact that there were no promised rewards. I sided with them for the ideals. Didn't go the Empire/Fed route and sell my soul to them - to do their bidding - just to get their pretty ships. And now that the Alliance has been allowed to become a real power again . That these ships become only available to Alliance ranked players. Feels like being stabbed in the back for all the effort expended and then everyone can have access to Alliance ships and Alliance Reped players have no access to Empire or Fed ships. Stay the course ED and keep the game balanced. It's fine to make every thing accessible in beta - gotta get rid of the bugs - but please don't let us Alliance players down.

Might not help in your soecific case - have you tried the "alternative download" option? Up to 2.4, that was somewhere in the launcher. Looks like now it's "multi threaded download", and you can remove the option.
Rough estimate, 16gb.

Do I need to own a copy of the game to join the open beta?
How long should the beta take to download. The launcher for me has been saying "sync files" for hours and is stuck working in the region of 0.48MB/S...so I have hours to go? This sort of speed cannot be right?

I use a PC, and do not use Steam.
I have played normally today, and closed down for Supper.
I have just found another 64 bit program in the launcher - not called BETA but it refuses to load saying my machine does not support terrane generation ??HUH??
I have not initiated any download.
I have not tried a normal start - yet.
Is this 64 bit extra the BETA under a different name?
Maybe not the right place for this.
will go and try a normal start and reboot, after this post.

like the 31st Jan - it seems the BETA is lurking underneath the 'normal' stuff - but out of sight with a subminature (new to me) scroll(ette) bar for access - all very clever and twee, but for dirty glasses wearers it is er er er what is that funny thing for.

I hope I understand bounties now such that bounty for murder will be high and severe for the perpetrator, but the bounty hunter that destroys the ship will get only a smaller fraction of this. Is this correct? Or is murder still just 9K bounty, and bounty hunter then gets what 5K or something? I was hoping for something like murder = 500K for the perpetrator, 50K for the bounty hunter?

No, it installs the beta alongside the live game client.
