Elite Dangerous Exobiology Rank Threshold Rebalance Information

View attachment 338911
FD replied that I was almost close to a geneticist. I looked through the Codex and saw for myself the profit in exobiology (3,892,139,610). The table is correct for the most part.
My rank is now Elite 0%, and my total earnings without first logging bonuses exceeded that threshold for Taxonomist, 1.17 B Cr, about in the middle of last week. My earnings are now 1.19 B Cr, but I was not demoted to Taxonomist. I'm still Elite 0%.

Demotion might only happen on the next rank-up event. I.e. if your "virtual" rank is Taxonomist, and you hand-in enough to become Ecologist, you might receive a note that you were "promoted" to Ecologist, thus effectively demoted from Elite rank. But this could be a bug that people suffered early on and was since repaired server-side. Who knows? FDev is in silent mode on this subject and lets us rot, despite promising in the past that they will communicate more. Another empty promise, it seems. sigh

Do you have any SLF crews on payroll? Because if you do, your earnings are lower and may be actually still under the new taxonomist threshold

Anyway, keep us posted, i'm curious if they fixed it server side - but even if they did, it's only a tag fix, you still need to earn a lot only to recover the lost progression due to re-ranking

Well, I think I most probably was below the threshold for Taxonomist when update 14.01 came, because I remember quite well that I sold only one set of organic data between U14 and 14.01. After selling that set of data, my total earnings from exobiology were about 460 - 470 M Cr, and I got a quick promotion from Geneticist 2% to Elite 21%. Then the update 14.01 came, and I have been Elite 0% since then.

I have never had any NPC crew members, so I have gotten to keep all my earnings.

You don't go down a named rank. You just sit at 0% until you total cumulative credits earn reach the new next rank requirement.

1.24Bn credits earned me a rise of about 80% in Ecologist judging by the gauge on the right panel.

I know that this is the intended mechanics judging by what Sally wrote. However, at least 2 people have reported going down named ranks. It could be that this was a bug and fixed already, but it has happened. It would be nice if FDev could say something about this. Until then I'm not touching exo-bio with a ten-foot pole.

Weird... I'm still at 0% Ecologist for 1.12B and you're 80% Ecologist for 1.24B? 80% rank progression for a mere 120M?
Here is the before and after bar and credits amounts... the latter includes my Universal Cartographics data sale too though.

I kept a note of my payouts for the few days before (while the exobiologist was still showing 0%) and the total for all the recent week or so (since the rejigged thresholds) is £3.112Bn, after my 8% SLF pilot reduction. So about £3.38Bn in all, but that last increase is as shown in the pic (less UC, which was only some 36 million).

I just worked out how much my entire Exobiology data back catalogue is worth in new money....

Total Base6,125,293,900
Total Bonus24,342,330,000
Total Earnings30,467,623,900

OOF That hurts - I've be Elite V not Genetecist.

Also on the genetecist classification - I think it's related to the bug of the missing bonus for first finder. FDEV have me down as Cr6.1bn profit whereas my journals show Cr10.1bn....I had a ticket in the system for a missing Cr4bn in first finder bonus.....so it's now suggesting that once they fix that I'll be back up to Elite. Maybe anyone else who got demoted further back than their Pre-14 rank ought to check on that. I'm currently in discussion with FDEV via ticket on this and will come back with update.

Just a question though....if the rankings are changed in a manner that impacts exobiology data gathered prior to U14, should the credits we recieved for them also be retrospectively changed????

No we want to encourage them to separate rank from earnings so this sort of thing can only happen to trade.

Since everything in this regards is fraked up beyond all recognition anyway, it doesn't matter anymore. The fair thing would be to count the pre-14 hand-ins differently for the ranking, then go from U14 onwards with the new money and scale. The whole demotion crap followed by silence is just lazy impudence.

Yeah. That’s my beef too.

So I spent some time out in the middle of freaking nowhere and did nothing more than exo and scanned some systems - every one of them I had never been to. If they had bio signals, I was stopping off. Spent a lot of time looking for some of these, particularly bacterium. Holy hell, those are the worst and can really burn your time up on a planet.

At any rate, I was 54% into Compiler (Before that reset debacle, I was 15% already into Compiler before the changes, and the display was at zero). After my turn in a few ago, I completely skipped over a rank (Cataloger) and went to Collector, lol. This has been the best way for me to make credits with the short amount of time I play.

Cataloger comes after Collector. Sorry to burst your bubble but you just went up a single rank.

Thanks for your data nontheless. It would seem that first-found bonus doesn't count towards the rank, which would be a real shame as the bonus was really encouraging people to go out exploring new systems. Looks like Billionaires Boulevard might be the way to go after all.

Just visit ammonia/thin water athmosphere planets 2000-3000 ly outside the bubble. The Billionair boulevard does not give undiscovered planets

Actually...

I edited my post above - I had those backwards and, in my haste, I posted old INARA data. I actually got back up out of bed at 0300 my time, logged in and looked again because this was bugging me so badly.

So, I did in fact go from Compiler - to Cataloguer, skipping over Collector. And I'm 3/4 of the way through Cataloguer with this single trip I took. (Added the screenshot and edited my post for clarity). So yeah, I went up two ranks with that info above.

That's great news, it would also suggest rank progress DOES include the first-found bonus. Phew!

Sleep tight now :)
