Discussion Elite Dangerous Exploration Buddy

I have not tested it in VR but some players reported using EDEB with VR - although there were some drawbacks which I don't rememember. Yes, there is a HUD window that can be overlayed on top of ED. I am also currently working on a "mouse pass through mode" for the HUD window so that there is no focus possible (at least the mouse will click through). Not sure if that will help in VR - I guess you have to try it out :)
I use the HUD in VR. I can't use ED without the HUD now. It's invaluable. I use Desktop+. I bring the HUD in, size it, in then have it set to when I look at it it appears. I have set the important data I want it to display. (Bios, High Value planets and their cost)

I did try it out and sad too say its overlay is just on the monitor. Nothing in the VR HMD. :(

Hello @CMDR Panostrede ,
Is there a possibility to insert short pauses in the voice output, or could you add this in the next version?
Background: I use another program with a voice output and sometimes the two voice outputs interfere with each other.
And thank you for the great tool! 👏👍

Hello!

Just took delivery of the latest version (2.3.0?) of the program. One thing I reckon would be nifty, is if ones preferences from the previous install could be retained.

Loving it anyway :)

Hi CMDR Panostrede,

first of all, thanks for your Add-On, as a return guy to ED after 8 years from World of Warcraft, I was delighted to see there are so many helpfull tools, and as an uprising explorer I love your Tool, thanks for your time to create and maintain it!

I have a little question, perhaps I didnt get it or my setup is a bit awkward...
The HUD, well I am one of those who are playing with one 24'' Display, normally I switch my Windows - virtual Desktops, but I would like to get the HUD into the game, so set it, I see it on my Desktop (same Desktop the game is running), but if I switch focus (Alt-Tab) to the game the it disappears. I expected to see it "everywhere", because I do not have any checkmarks on "Auto-Hide..."

Perhaps I get the concept wrong, could you give me a litte clue how it works?

Cheers

So the HUD works for me. How is ED set up for you? ED runs in “Windows mode without border”.
However, the HUD is only on the desktop on which the game and EDEB are also running.

I'm going to post this because of the amount of time I spent trying to find it.

I love this tool, but the TTS way too robotic, no fault of the application simply the default Windows TTS is like that.
Elite Observatory uses cloud-based TTS which sounds pretty good, but the Evaluator plugin does not grab data from EDSM and relies on FSS every system - no thanks.

I searched far and wide for alternatives with no luck, until I found this obscure program on Github which allows 'Natural Voices' from the Windows 11 Narrator to be used as TTS.

This is the page https://github.com/gexgd0419/NaturalVoiceSAPIAdapter.

It works with voices from Narrator, Edge and Azure. Personally I use the Sonia voice from the Narrator 'Natural Voices'.

There are install instructions on the Github but I'll put a little guide here:
First you need some voices, on Windows 11 add natural voices to Narrator by going to Settings > Accessibility > Narrator and clicking Add natural voices. I like Sonia personally.

For older Windows you can download them directly here on the Github.

Then download the program from Releases on Github (Get x86_x64 so it works will 32 and 64 bit programs). Extract it somewhere (it says don't move it after install).

Check the boxes for the type of voices you want to appear Narrator, Edge, Azure (I just ticked Narrator).
If you aren't on Windows 11 and didn't download the file through Settings you will need to browse to the local file path.

Click Install 32-bit and then Install 64-bit and you are done.
After installing you can restart Exploration Buddy and in Preferences > Speech you will see the new options in the Voice dropdown.

Of course this will also work for any other TTS that uses native Windows Speech API. I know Icarus Terminal also can use it, probably many more.
Hope you guys get some use out of this!
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou! 🙏
Absolute game changer! Works brilliantly, and Sonia is infinitely more pleasant on the ear! 👍

Probably solved now, but in VR using Desktop+ (freebie on Steam) it's east to make a panel which comes on automatically on gaze and place it up against the side panels in your ship somewhere innocuous. BIt of fiddling to get the size right, opacity at about 60% and it's perfect! This has been an absolute game-changer for exploration, and I'm immeasurably grateful for your expertise and time

Question about bio-signals and playing in a wing.

Can the same idea be applied to sharing bio-signals data as what's already being done with regular planetary data that's retrieved from EDSM? For example, I used to check for bio-signals at https://signals.canonn.tech/ and it was very fast at updating the data - almost instanteneous. I don't know where this bio-signal data is actually stored and what interfaces exist for it, but I assume it should be possible to fetch this data similarly to how EDSM is used.
This would make the wing exploration experience so much better. Instead of seeing multiple question marks and asking the wing-mate if there's anything of value, we'd be able to see it with our own eyes.

I hope I explained it well. If not, I'll be happy to provide more details. Cheers, and thanks for the tool! o7

Something else I noticed about bio-signals. When I scan something with a comp.scanner, shouldn't the message "Possible occurences" change to "Confirmed occurences" or similar?
