I installed no man's sky, gta 5, and elite last night. Only got around to testing NMS and it didn't work, but now I see that I need the 396.51 driver for proton. I'll do a test again tonight.
Hey i just heard about valves proton software. Is it any good?
Won't be switching to linux anytime soon, but getting it running to play lightweight games (like lostwinds) on mac would be great.
So with Proton being in Steam now, I was able to buy my first windows-only game in over 10 years.. No Man's Sky, i'm afraid.. But i've been able to play for uninterrupted hours in debian.. I am sad it's not Elite, every minute I play it, but I'm not unhappy for the moment, i guess.. it certainly scratches that Elite-like itch.. I do hope E: D does work under at least Proton someday.. I'd rather be pouring my hours into that.. =(

+1 - Thanks for that
I'm pretty resigned to the fact that I've probably only got a couple years left until I'm forced off Windows and move everything to Linux
Once All Win 8 versions hit EOL and/or monthly subscription fees - I'll be done with Window$ for good

I have it on deb9, I'll let you know the fix. IIRC it was pretty minor.I could not get steam to install in Debian 9 (stretch). libGL.so.1 issue that I never resolved.
So am using kubuntu 18 instead.
Did you get steam to install in Debian 9, or some other version?
