Elite Dangerous (incl. Horizons) will be free to keep via Epic store from 19th November (offer available for a week)

Haha! I love a succinct reply.
My next question is how is this done?
I'm not particularly tech savvy so a 'for dummies' response is cool with me.
It would be nice to relax at the end of the academic year with some 'starting out again' gameplay in Elite.

If You're serious with that relaxing new start... boy ow boy 🤣🤣 I just can't wait to go through grinding engineers again... and its only explo essencial ones 🙈

I don't mind splashing out on 2 odysseys if one of main games with horizons is free. Plus I saved up for november sale in Star Citizen, but more I play SC, more I just want to hop back into my python and steel some hard mined rocks from others... so much better fun than waiting for 30k to drop arrr

Is there anything negative about signing up for epic game store to get this for free - e.g. is there a PITA loader that I have to install or are they after credit card info / annual fee's?
I use GOG for all my middle aged manchild replays of old stuff (mainly point and click adventures and sim city 4) so understand the concept, but just a bit worried that there's a catch somewhere.

It's just a basic games library and store, no bells and whistles.

I've been using it since GTA V was given away earlier this year and collecting the subsequent free games weekly from then on after.

Each one processes as a sales transaction but at zero money with no credit card details needed. Afterwards, it exists in your library for all time and installs/uninstalls as you please.

Outside of that, there's nothing else to it. So no catches.

Thanks mate. Sounds like standard stuff.(y)

You don't trust Epic Store? Why? I'd suggest Google or social media apps are far more of a concern/risk?
Saying you don't trust Epic Games is equivalent to saying you don't trust the internet. It's just plain silly. In fact Epic Games are cutting developers a much better deal than Steam, taking only 12% instead of Steams 30%. Want to support games and developers? Support Epic Games.

Hey wait, epic games store users won't have had a prior chance to get a cobra 4 so it should have that unlocked for all those accounts.

Also what's wrong with the epic games store. A few months ago, i had so many free games that i considered myself officially bribed and quite fond of the name. I event went to the store, but there's nothing on there you want to buy.

Depends on the Developers, steam is still the better platform for me as a user, and unless its an Indie dev(In which if you really want to support them 9/10 they have their own website). I don't need to support a multimillion dollar company to support game developers I like.

And Epic Games Store is not the Internet. Not even comparable.

My 'Epic' account is just a load of stuff they've given away free for a short time like Ghostbusters, CIV 6 and GTA 5. Every Friday I log on and grab the free stuff I'll never play.

You are "paying" by having to use the epic store on your PC though :(

Free is free, no matter the game.

And I bet FD will also get some profits from this to improve the game even more (not just opportunity to market new Odyssey for more wider crowd than just through Steam).
And well, if they sell even some Odyssey-expansions through Epic store, it all will pool to help game become better, and it does not cost anything for the FD (free advertisement).
Win-Win.

For the rest of us already owning the game, time to get that pirate alt-account you always wanted. Admit it.

Epic Games Store will never see even a second of a dime of my business. Crooked company with a crooked storefront.

Excuse me but why? I found it refreshing one could buy a game (or a DLC for free Civ 6) from there just to be added on your next phone bill...

Given the amount of vbucks my idiot son has bought I have no doubt he's probably paid for a few hundred Elite Dangerous accounts.

What a brave admission, and thanks for confirming.
