Elite Dangerous is Done For

Okay, so here's the facts. Frontier is losing large portions of their community by the day. Their forums aren't a place to have "discussion" anymore, it's a place for complaining.

Elite is currently a grind hell that is mind numbing boring and is just not what a game should be.

There are arriving titles like No Man's Sky, Star Citizen etc that appear they will blow them out of the water. Star Citizen is far deeper and contains much more content even in its early stages.

So what's your guys opinion, do you think Ed has a chance in the same pond as these other titles? Personally, I'm calling it an officially dead game within a litte over a year.

Although you're right regarding the grinding, but Elite Dangerous is alive and will be alive and kicking in the next years.

SC is like a commercial; promising you everything with a smile but in RL delivering nothing ( and I'm a Star Citizen myself ).
SC is also a big moneyhole.

NMS is promising and yet delivering [up]

All in my humble opinion :D

Your right.

Elite will not die simply because the systems, frameworks and tools they develop to simulate the entire galaxy will go on to form the basis for their technology platform and enable them to develop many other titles over time.

Frontiers IP will be the basis of their success and E : D's continued development and expansion will be the sweet long maturing fruit.

Oh, I REALLY love this post here! +rep.

The forums are a bit whiney I agree with that. It will be interesting to see what comes of Star Citizen and NMS. When I look at SC I don't see deep content at all, I see a broken mess atm. Both games are over hyped and have a lot to live up to. They could turn out to be better games than ED, then again maybe not since all of that is subjective. For example, I thought the flight model in SC was awful and NMS, from what I know about it, doesn't really appeal to me that much.

Thing is they have taken different approaches. I happen to think ED is in pretty good shape with 2.1. What I do predict however is if SC offers a better and more meaningful and less maligned PvP experience ED could lose players to that.

The game HAS shown a steady drop in players with a small blip at 2.1 release back to pre 2.1 numbers now. Its funny how the usual types chime in to insult people who have a different view of the game, kinda reminds me of the orchestra on the Titanic playing away merrily while the ship does the death-roll :) Player numbers have dropped steadily, no matter how you dress it up.
All game populations decline over time. However, I hope you are not another muppet using the numbers from steam as some sort of reference, at best they are partial. Numbers that do not show those using the standalone client installed before the steam release, do not show xbox numbers, and do not show numbers for the standalone mac client.

Of more than 1.6 million copies sold, around 500k or so steam keys have been redeemed, and those numbers include people redeeming keys provided by frontier having purchased the game before the steam release. Further, having redeemed a key on steam does not mean they play on steam, I like many others redeemed my key but still use the standalone launcher when playing at home.

Must be the 50th time Elite has been declared dead some before it even released! This is getting as bad as those Mayan Prophecies.

Nothing to see here.

Why would elite lose players? This is not a subscription based game. People can play both, just not at the exact same time. At worst, ED will have to share some of its player base with other games because it already does so.

Elite is still a dam fine game, it just needs proper guidance at the helm. Maybe Frontier should ask the community what they want before they put all that work into it.

I cant understand why they (and other mmos) do not do this. I mean if an update is released and we voted on it we cant very well complain that we don't like it can we.

What a breath of fresh air that would be.

Henry Ford once said "If I would have asked my customers what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse"

Lets see where we are with Elite in 5 years time...

I hate to reply as it just keeps the thread going, but I've noticed a pattern in many of these threads where someone starts it, and then is MIA without any response to the waves of people disagreeing with them.

On topic, what everyone else has said. Or put shortly: nope.

The view held by some, that people will either play ED, NMS or SC but not more than 1 of those, is bizarre to me. Would you say 1 FPS is doomed because another FPS is coming out?

^^ This.

I paid my kickstarter fee + lifetime pass. If I keep playing for the next 3 years straight or leave tomorrow, FD still has the same money from me.

I will also play, i like this game, however FDev should consider more content and less grindy way of designing game.

And it's always there to come back to any time you want if you do take a break :) I often take breaks from this game for anything up to a few months at a time, & then dive in again for a few days / weeks whenever the fancy takes me. In the meantime I play something else, or read, or do a *very* little of the work I'm supposed to for varsity.

And E: D is always there, waiting for me, whenever I feel like playing with her again for a while. It's like a really good friends with benefits relationship that doesn't get all huffy & jealous if you feel like playing with something new from time to time :p

LOL? Star Citizen and No Man's Sky having more content? LOL? When was last time you played Star Citizen? Let me tell you what it has in current state... Nothing compared to ED, it only has a "solar system" with one planet and a few stations orbiting, a few missions, no way to save your position, you just wake up at station every time, sense of depth? None, it doesn't even feel like moving in space or flying a ship, Star Citizen as we speak has nothing, just promises and expensive ships...

As for No Man's Sky, it had horrible reviews recently, after you visit a few planets they all look the same, so much for an exploration game...

I wonder why you guys come here complaining about Elite Dangerous, it is currently the best space game on the market and LOL, I don't see Star Citizen or No Man's sky killing ED anytime soon, they are just promises and nothing else,

This kind of thread makes the community and forum worse in my opinion, we shouldn't be here to spread negativity but to help FD improve the game, it's too bad there are so many who complain and rarely someone who suggest something useful, it's not ED being dead, some people's brains are...

Wrong. You are confusing concurrent players with audience. If the number of concurrent players drops it just means that people are playing less, not less players. You need to look at the audience, which didn't change much.

Another reason not to fear declining player numbers, at least for now.

There's lots of transaction lag. It indicates server load. It happens whenever there is s large number of players online at the same time.

Of course you can twist this and claim FD's servers are broken or they somehow don't know how to program an online game etc. Lame insults are a dime a dozen here anyway.

I can only speak for myself.

NMS i think may be fun but until VR is supported i no longer have any interest.
SC I think may be good but i think it is unlikely to have everything people are expecting. ED is still a better fit for me perosnally in how it is balanced (I worry SC is too much geared towards guilds and what not which i just am not in to. Also I think the flight model is not as good as elites.

ED... Again, I cant speak for anyone else however I am here for the long haul. People have been predicting its demise before it was even out of alpha!. I agree the game has changed direction somewhat since I backed the game but ultimately I still enjoy it.
