Elite Dangerous is the Largest Empty Sandbox Ever Made

I commented earlier already that total amount of active players (playing at the same time) is about 10,000 tops. That's a very positive outlook btw. Eve Online easily outshines that with 42k.

Genuine question here, any idea what percentage of that 42k are multis and/or bots?

The active player base is what truly counts and what's what I was referring to. The far majority of players have quit playing ED.

Eve Online puts ED to shame as far as the active player population is concerned. Eve also prob has a lot more player accounts than 3 million.

No, you don't refer to the active player base, you are referring to concurrent players. I am referring to the active player base which is how many unique players logged in during the last 2 weeks. Concurrent players doesn't tell you anything because this number is highest when a game is launched or a new update is realesed.

Elite has a good numbers. When you realize we play loading and re-login screens. Little more effort and this game would be epic.
*Please devs don't fall asleep, and dont wait for star citizen to be comparable.*

There's some competition in it if you choose to play that way, but it's far from the only way to play. Who are the explorers competing with?

Look im not going to argue semantics with you. I know there is other stuff in the game. Just like you do.

So lets cut the here. Im talking about thats what lacking in this game. Go explore if thats what you like. You're getting lots of updates to that in the Beyond update.

But you know you can drop Data bombs for the BGS from exploration right? Could be used to influence systems. But what, I dont know anything on these forums eh?

How about that non-consensual unbalanced PVP through the BGS?

It's perfectly balanced - players can engage in all activities that are effective in relation to the BGS in all game modes - and the BGS was designed around indirect PvP in a game where direct PvP is entirely optional.

.... what those that prefer direct PvP cannot do is force those that don't to engage in it.

And Elite Dangerous has what 6k active players tops. Right now 2,662 are In-Game via steam ( if you add console players and non-steam maybe optimistically 6,000). You call that a success?

CCP doesn't shy away from disclosing how many players are logged into Eve Online:

Tranquility; ok (18,777 players)
Status Serenity; ok (5,947 players)
Status Singularity; ok (50 players)

Eve Online has more than 25,000 people playing right now. Frontier is too ashamed to reveal the exact number of people who are playing ED, because it's considerably less.

Current record: 41,736 (2007-11-06 07:28:14)

ED will not last another 5 years if they don't add a lot more sand to the sandbox.

Sorry but it's the truth.

Over the last 2 weeks 65000 different people play Elite Dangerous. There are probably a lot more than that as it doesn't include console players or people who do not use steam. Elite player figures are pretty good. I am pretty sure it will go up and down as it usually does and peaks whenever there is an update, like most games out there.

Whatever you say. Powerplay is not working right now because of the same problems the BGS holds.

There is no getting around it. You can talk until your little eyes fall off your avatar. The facts of the game prove other wise.

Enjoy the ride cause this is where I get off. How long you been riding this horse going nowhere?

If FD had the vision, they'd create a set of developer tools and sell licenses to third-party developers.
Primarily, it'd be for content development, but within limits they could allow some restricted feature development as well.
Then the sandbox would fill up with real variation and destinations and ED would start to fulfill its potential.

I'm certainly enjoying the ride - and I've been here for over five years. The horse's destination would seem to be a matter of opinion - some see it as heading for the knacker's yard whereas others see it as heading for verdant pastures....
