I never said it didn't happen. I was highlighting one possible reason why many players are expecting much more player agency; such as a player driven economy (seriously.. there is nothing wrong in doing this.. plenty of games have them and they work; some work really well); or owning more than just a space ship.
It's not just this, there's plenty of other videos with DB who, at least in my view, has basically been talking about, or inferring to, a level of player agency that just isn't there; a level many people would love to have.
We've been told over and over again how our actions impact the galaxy .. but that impact is akin to a small child trying to push over an adult; it maybe happen if the kid tries hard enough and the adult is off balance. But I don't see it. I don't feel it. It doesn't have to be staggering.. but some tangible, visible impact would be nice. For example, an in-game line graph that be drilled down to a minute by minute display of the supply/demand of a material or product in that system would go a long way. Even a small trader in the real world can track the impact his buying/selling has on the markets; can play those markets to his advantage and maybe turn a profit.
I'm not blind; I know some of my disappointment is down to my own hype and expectations not being met; but at the same time, if one is honest with oneself, it's not hard to see that what Frontier really aren't coming to the party either. They kinda standing at the door like "WE'RE TOTALLY COMING! AND WE'RE BRINGING SUCH A COOL PARTY TO THE PARTY!" and everyone is like "SO BRING IT!" and they like "YA.. TOTALLY COMING TO THE PARTY! YOU'LL LOVE IT!
(and if you don't we won't bother fixing it)"
I have the game, I'll keep buying aesthetics, I'll keep buying expansions. I'll continue to support Frontier because I like their faces.
But.. ED is basically just a watered down Star Citizen for me. I honestly believe they released too early.
