Elite Dangerous Issue Report - 10/08/2021

would it not make sense to release weekly ..what things are done...so we dont get updates with 3 pages of changes to have to effectively beta test and give feedback on?
How is that better for anyone? like this week, could have had a couple updates pushed and we could focus on those changes and let fdev know if they are working or broken or need to be changed because they dont make sense, etc. And it wont get lost in the noise of 40 other changes simultaneously dropping.

also, why the secrecy around new features (apex shuttle gameplay)? would it not benefit all involved if such things were made known so some kind of idea on how popular that will be can be had before it gets to the point of release? Did we not learn anything from the bio scanner thing, cqc, etc? It's not going to be a mystery to solve ...and it's not paid content to hype up...so i dont see any point in keeping such things under wraps for anyone.

Stolen Tritium Cannot Be Donated Into A Fleet Carrier's Fuel Depot: Fixed, should arrive in Update 7.
Hyped about this fix in particular. Stealing tritium still probably won't be a super effective way of getting it, but for the pirates among us, it's nice to be able to finally have a use for piracy!

Now you just need spiky marauder skins for the FC and the journey to Reaver will be complete.

Greetings Commanders!

I'd like to introduce you to something new. Below is our first Top 20 Issues table, summarising the highest voted issues on the Issue Tracker. As part of being open and honest about the game's development, we'll be regularly posting updated versions of this table and discussing it on our Supercruise News streams.

Note: the status and planned release of each issue is subject to change as various factors affect the ongoing development schedule.

Top 20 Issues:

  1. Problems With Lighting and Illumination: We're happy to say this is now fixed since Update 6, having spent some time to monitor it afterwards. Any new issues to do with lighting should now be reported on the Issue Tracker as normal.

  2. Degraded Terrain Textures Compared To Horizons: A lot of the work for this went into Update 6, with some finishing touches coming in Update 7.

  3. Tiling Planetary Features: Changing the way planets are generated signifies a huge undertaking, so we're still investigating this.

  4. Low FPS Performance In Odyssey: This work will continue up to the end of the year, with improvements added already in Update 6, we know there is more to do.

  5. Limited Gameplay During Apex Shuttle Rides: Nothing to share at this time.

  6. Game Hangs On Exit Sometimes: Currently under investigation, we'll aim for the next update but it's one of the fixes more likely to end up in a later update.

  7. Invincible Thargoid Heart: We know this is a longstanding issue which has a complex cause. It's still being investigated and hasn't been forgotten. If you would like to contribute some information to this issue and others, please read this post.

  8. Anti-Aliasing Not Working Correctly: Some changes will go in Update 7 or 8, with significant improvements, but a full anti-aliasing system is slated for later this year.

  9. Joystick Buttons 32+ Not Working: Not started as other issues are prioritised.

  10. Expose Telemetry Data For Motion Simulators: We're currently discussing this internally, and may decide against it. If it does go ahead, it won't be before Update 8.

  11. NHSS Signals In Odyssey That Should Contain Interceptor Are Empty: Appears to be fixed, should arrive in Update 7 pending some further QA testing.

  12. Increased Performance Problems Since Update 5: Some further improvements are coming in Update 7, while general optimisation will be ongoing. The coming change won't be a fix for everyone, but will resolve some of the drops players are seeing.

  13. Supercruise Stuck At '0' Time Remaining With Tunnel Forming: Currently under investigation.

  14. Fleet Carrier Modules And Finances Not Calculated Towards Assets: In progress, slated for Update 7.

  15. NPC Fighter Kills In Conflict Zones Count As Progression: Currently under investigation.

  16. Support Missions Have Been Culled: Fix should be incoming in Update 7.

  17. A Previously Present Codex Entry Is Now Missing: Under investigation. Currently considered lower priority.

  18. System & Galaxy Map Misalignment In Widescreen Aspect Ratios: In progress, unlikely for Update 7.

  19. Stolen Tritium Cannot Be Donated Into A Fleet Carrier's Fuel Depot: Fixed, should arrive in Update 7.

  20. Missions and Rewards Not Sharing With The Team: Fixed, should arrive in Update 7.

This is a reflection of the current scenario, and due to the ever-evolving nature of game development, the planned release for these fixes is subject to change. Let us know what you think of this report below!

See you in the black Commanders,

This sucks. Yet again consoles bugs are not being fixed 🤦‍♂️. Why do we have to have a broken game whilst you fix the dlc that should have been fixed before you released it.

Now, this is what I wanted to see! Great work! Now I can check the progress the game is in with fixing bugs. Nice.

Sucks all around, but all things considered, I'd rather they spend more time on the expansion consoles will eventually get, rather than waste time fixing something on consoles that will get overwritten in six months anyway.

To be fair I would rather just have the graphical upgrade than the dlc as long as they fixed the bugs in the game. Oddyysey was meant to bring a code refresh but alot the old bugs still exist in it.

edit the last time the game was running smoothly was before oddyysey update and before that was the day before horizons update

The code refresh was a myth. DBOBE said code would be redone, which happens with all expansions. No-one ever said there would be a full on code refresh.

I can see arguments both ways.

I'm jazzed that they are even willing to look at Apex Shuttle Gameplay, et al. My assumption is that they never planned on filling it with anything.

Let it be a surprise, and besides, they're not going to fill it with something that everyone will necessarily like anyway. Easier for them to just do what they're going to do and then see how its received. Then they'll probably get useful feedback on how to make it better.

But granted, there have been "on-foot explo minigame" and "hold-e-to-loot" issues fiascos.

@Bruce G @Zac Cocken Would like to ask whether this if for all issues for Elite or whether this is just EDO Pc focused. As said on stream "No news is worse than bad news" (Not much news heading consoles way) and if that is for all of Elite then obviously console is not even a consideration presently which is a little harsh I mean it is coming across it would be easier to get a pc or switch games. If I have misinterpreted then would it be possible to have one of these for console as recently Elite is very unstable on console past month crashes increasing when leaving planets or being interdicted not to even mention the jittering (Reported), presently no way of knowing if this is even being acknowledged. Right said my piece I will go back to the corner of my dark cave and wait lol :D

We triage and work on issues across all platforms and this table will apply for them all.

Many if not most issues that get reported affect all platforms, but when they’re platform specific I suspect they’ll mostly be PC related since that’s where most of our players are. Even so, we’re working on many things outside of this list so if something major affects console, we’re generally likely to address that before a minor thing for PC and vice versa.

I still think a big glowing CQC button would be a big help for Apex travel. You hop in the taxi, queue for CQC, and when your taxi arrives, it alerts you and you can drop back out of CQC to keep playing the real game. They'd need to make Apex keep flying while you're in CQC, of course, but that should be a minor issue.

Once Odyssey on PC is polished
Admitted pessimistic here but ;) .....as a lot of peoples "wants" vary this process could be potentially going on this time next year, the issues for me presently is there's no "news" and little feedback there are a hell of a lot of problems on console presently that seem to be being pushed in to the background on the proviso that some day Odyssey will be sorted which obviously at some point it will but.......Thats why think if we had one of these for console at least you could see something was being done even if in the grand scheme of things it was tiny :D

Or that your cab pilot is in fact a black market guy and very shady :D

I'll take a bet on when the game will be in the state it should have been on May 19, 2021.
The issue tracker currently contains 411 tickets (only from Update 6).
One patch with 20 fixes per month.
411 divided by 20 = 20.55.
So it takes 1.7 years at this rate.
The console friends will be happy.

That's being generous.
They will have a infinite cycles of fixing bugs from the last patch

Sally is already pulling out noteworthy parts of the game updates as part of collating the patch notes.

On why weekly releases aren't a thing, the overhead required to develop and test significant functionality at that kind of cadence for a game as complex as Elite Dangerous is monumental. I'm surprised FDev were able to sustain it for as long as they did following the release of Odyssey, and I want to say we started to feel the impacts of the limited QA time that offers with new bugs being introduced and others regressing in the later patches.

I'd far, far prefer the current monthly-ish dev cycle for live releases, though I grant you that offering up beta access for some of the more involved and controversial changes would be a good idea.

I think it was Arf who said recently that there are some things they feel are better shown rather than talked about. That could be one reason why at this stage there's nothing to share beyond "it's currently on the radar to do SOMETHING about in 2021".

Cheers for rep buddy it is appreciated know you can't be having an easy time ;), still think though if there was something visual you could see to at least know a problem is linked with console as well or cross platform then maybe there would be a little less frustration expressed from the console side. Thanks again though mate, if ever on console I will avoid aggressive actions in your presence 😜

If you're taking a taxi, presumably because you don't want to fly a spaceship, then why would you want to queue for CQC to fly a spaceship?

I must confess since launch I only took an Apex once to get an engineer invite and have no intention of ever taking another one, but surely your target audience for CQC are people who actually fly their spaceships, not take taxis?

Which...is fine to a point, but to stop 'less than ideal' choices being made early on FD do need to put things past the crowd. If they had done so with the UI and several other things the heat they got would have been much less.
