Italian CMDR here too.
I'll be honest...
I think many here grossly underestimate the workload of such a heavy procedurally-driven-text game.
Been in several "translation project" groups and either there's strong leadership and drive or eventually runs out of steam or takes literally ages...
Good luck.
Italian CMDR here, here's my take on this matter.
Personally I don't feel the need of an Italian localisation in this game.
But I understand other Italian people might not speak English as well as other people do.
My biggest concern is: is it such a big blocker? I mean, does the lack of an Italian localisation completely prevent people from properly enjoying the game?
It's a bit of a subjective matter, so getting feedbacks is very important here. As I said, personally I don't think it would be necessary. But this is my opinion.
But if this comes up to be an actual big blocker for too many people, then yes, definitely I'd say go for it.
The fact to me it's not about having a blocker in the player base but having a blocker for the wannabe players. Most of us are Italian and we know especially via Facebook that Italians are kinda primitive, mostly in English but many of them in Italian also, even if they are supposed to be mothertongue. I can predict a load of 5/10% of more ITALIAN players if we'd like to get an Italian translation. Why this much? Because I am considering roughly how many complaints I have seen around from wannabe players who gave Elite up because of a linguistic dissonance with their language. And most of, check out the steam reviews of ED and many other games. There is A WHOLE LOT of players who just wants the game they play in Italian because they just like it, and most of them don't play any games which is NOT in their language. That's where that 5/10% roughly comes out. I am not saying it's needed but it would be a good excuse for some players to consider the game back again (players, not BIMBIMINCHIA, let's make it clear) and to maybe put some interaction and interest in their deep sci-fi or astronomy passion. Because the only choice out of Elite for astrophilists is Space Engine at the moment, which is nothing more but a Planetarium. Elite brings this all to life in a loving universe and deserve a push to attract more brained people/ players. That's my 5cents for it
To be fair... My father truly loved the game but having spent his life mostly in Italy he just knew one language.
He passed away last year due to cancer.
I actually wish he could have lived long enough to play it in Italian.
That said Frontier was awesome enough to allow me a small memento in game in his memory.
CMDR Losco Nosciuto here, I did comment on your Twitter post a few hours agothat said, I agree it would be awesome to finally have this becoming real. And as a thank you what you just said I am proud to see you are somehow linked to Italy, and would be nice if this comes to a player-job translation, to make the project be named after your Father CMDR
what was his name? And I am very glad many other people from other countries are supporting the language. I couldn't thank you all more <3
Non sono certo di capire.
Primo sono curioso del twitter di cui parli... Io non ho twitter.
A parte questo io SONO italiano, non "somehow linked to Italy".
Non sono offeso, non preoccuparti- metto solo le cose in chiaro.
My father was CMDR Topox. He's "buried" in Pollux.
You don't have to dedicate anything to anyone... but it's a nice gesture.

I thought you were the same person but I must have been mistakensorry for the embarrassing mistake
anyway, condolences for your loss and sorry again for the misunderstanding
Well, it's not JUST Italian CMDRs, it's all about the community feeling our pain. Because Elite is a VAST GAME which deserves more attention by the media. It could be used somehow in schools as a small interactive planetarium and educational tool, for the way it is designed, and I feel that adding such a widely used language as Italian is, could be just some good news and some fresh air for the business and the game. Jurassic World Evolution taught that too, and I am sure that a wide part of the playerbase plays in italian, so...Why not?![]()
Absolutely Agreed with you.
Elite is a VAST GAME which deserves more attention by the media.
More languages can have access to the game, more interesting it could be for a large public slice.
I know allot of "possible player" that are afraid to play a game so "complex" as ED is, because, honestly is true, ED require a deep understanding about the game mechanisms (but it is also one of the most nice feature).
In, for example Italian, or other languages, probably allot of them could change their mind about it.
PLEASE DO IT, NOT FOR US THAT ARE POSTING ON THIS FORUM, BUT FOR ALL THE REST OF PEOPLE THAT WANT TO PLAY WITH US....
Is true they can learn english but a game, especially a game as ED, have to be accessible to everyone.
This is my opinion about it.
I'm wondering how english people will understand bimbominchia!(players, not BIMBIMINCHIA, let's make it clear)
Buongiorno, comandanti!
We are thrilled to see so many Italian commanders enjoying our game and supporting the initiative to translate Elite Dangerous into Italian.
At the moment, all I can say is that we're constantly re-evaluating the languages we support in our various games, and investigate the possibility of adding further ones.
Italian is definitely on our radar as an option for the future, but I cannot yet confirm any immediate plans to support it.
Your offer to contribute to the translations is very generous and highly appreciated, and will be definitely taken into consideration.
Until then, I hope you all enjoy the game, and the new content and features added in the latest 3.3 update
Fly safe o7
