Elite Dangerous 'New Launcher' live today!

Dear Sir or Madam,

Congratulations on this new launcher.
As it looks at first sight it seems to work.
But!
Please refrain from collecting computer information when launching the launcher without the owner's consent!
This is a violation of EU privacy laws.
If an owner of a computer system does not want to give out their information, they should ask for it and if they deny it, they should respect it.
They do not need this information for the function of their launcher and Elite Dangerous!

We wish them continued success.

Thank you for your understanding.
The launcher does ask for your consent. After the launcher has compiled the system report, you are asked if you would like to send your system summary to Frontier, or you can decline it. It is for the lawyers to decide if the process of analyzing and compiling the system data is already a violation, but it is a false claim that Frontier collects that data (as in: transmit it to them and save them in their database) without your consent. You get to decide if you want to send a system report to Frontier or not.

Good morning, cmdr.

The app asks for your permission before it sends the collected info. Our precious hardware info is safe from peril, public knowledge and gossip. Let's not exaggerate, the GDPR can be stupid some times, I propose common sense as a change.

For those still having trouble launching Elite, such as here where edlaunch.exe simply crashes upon execution, try Mini-Ed-Launcher: https://github.com/rfvgyhn/min-ed-launcher
It will auto update to latest and you can select which Elite version to run, and for myself that means Legacy, which is not possible from Steam.
"MinEdLauncher.exe /frontier <username> /autorun /autoquit /ed" works for me.
Ooh nice, multi account support!

Whilst collecting but not transmitting hardware data wouldnt be an issue with GDPR, theres no point scanning the system of a user that doesnt want the data sharing. It would be better to ask consent and then perform the survey upon acceptance. Theres various reasons for this, one being stability. Scanning the hardware of the system could potentially trigger AV heuristics which would lead to issues running the launcher. This is why diagnositic data is generally not collected preemptively as a best practice - its a high risk operation in terms of compatibility

So there is a new launcher, but still cannot switch accounts in an easy way, if i am not mistaken?
Wow.. just wow.

Correct - I still have a different copy of the launcher for each account* as the launcher just wants you to log out of the account and then log in afresh with another. Definately not what I was expecting from this much-vaunted "new launcher".

* some people use an app for this I see

Oh! Having to login EVERY time I start the launcher is going to get ANNOYING real fast.

Why can the new launcher not have some of the more nicer features of the old launcher? Like remembering you're logged in and not always asking you to!

Just close the launcher using the "X" in the top right (not via twitter) - don't log-out of the launcher - next time you launch it starts without needing password (as long as you had ticked "remember me").

Hi Sally just to let you know the Frontier stand alone launcher updated again this morning, and is working fine for me, the only issue now is that I'm still not seeing any news when I scroll down past the Odyssey image

I don't see an option to "Remember me" ;)
