Elite Dangerous | Powerplay 2.0 exploration and trade balance changes

Tried that.. didn't get any at all. Does it have to be a local enemy ie landlocked to my powers border.? Just seems odd l got nothing cos l did what you described but with a power further away. Just point out I'm experimenting atm. Also PPcz medium l went into was empty! Relogged still empty after flying back into it.

I said "enemy's Stronghold Carrier". You can find enemy's Stronghold Carrier in enemy's territory.
And if you are in enemy's territory already and you can't see anything, that might be bug. :(

Oh I did see em . I got shot at by the carrier as l closed in, so I stayed further away and used long range rails to provoke the fighters to come out to me whereupon l destroyed em, about a dozen. And no merits, yes of course it was an enemy carrier it had a red box and was shooting at me.

I think there might be some logic or some bug. I tested in two Stronghold Carrier and got always Merits.

Besides combat, what else can we do at stronghold carriers? I seem to remember in the early previews they talk about doing covert sabotage stuff at an enemy's stronghold carrier.

Hopefully seeing more like this:

Placing high value NPCs in this area would be a great draw.

Great tactic! Very nice use of rails 👍😁

I remember that in Ghost Giraffe's video he looted one of the support ships with a hacking limpet followed by collector limpets. He was running a very cold Mandalay but still got scanned and caught eventually.

Not sure if this activity counts as crimes or other merit worthy action though.

You can hack parts of the stronghold carriers and scan verious parts for merits. I tried and managed to hack a few things with the limpets and got merits for them before everyone went hostile and I got out if there. Certain powers give more merits for these activites

Sorry its not very specific, but there seemed to be parts of the carrier that you could shoot to destroy also, it was all a bit hectic so didn't have a chance to see what was what.

Greetings Commanders,

Following a review of the use of exploration data and trading on Powerplay 2.0 we will be making the following changes:
  • We will be temporarily disabling the merit and system score gains for Exploration and Genetic Samples data for Powerplay 2.0
  • You can continue to explore, gather and sell data but it will not count towards Powerplay 2.0
  • We have a deployed a fix to balance Powerplay 2.0 trading - Trades will no longer result in excessive merit generation. We will continue to monitor and adjust as needed.
  • We will be adjusting the Powerplay 2.0 ranks of Commanders who have excessively benefited from trading and exploration data
  • Once our review is complete we will announce when exploration data will be eligible to count towards Powerplay 2.0
We thank you for your patience.
Admittedly the following data is anectdotal but from pretty close (co-player on an EDO stream) to the involved commander:
One commander submitted (alledgedly) 2.5 years of exploration/exobiology data and for that earned around 200 000 merits and shot up to a (temporary?) first place in the weekly PP2 ranking. I would assume this is one of the occurences causing the disabling gains for "exploration and genetic samples data for powerplay 2.0"

I have some (Witchhaul Kobe) Beef with this.
  • Assuming the pledged power is Li Yong-Rui, one advertised benefit is 100% increase in exploration data gain. This is what is given out as info when pledging. But in reality, it's a very, very, very, very, very, very long journey to get to the rank needed to do that.
  • 100% exploration data gains is only available at Rank 86, for the very, very, very, very, very, very hard work of 663 000 merits.
  • Assuming the reward system even stayed the same, without nerfing, with 2,5 years of exploration data earning about 200 000 merits, it would take approximately 8,25 years to GRIND up the needed exploration data to reach rank 86 for a power.
  • And this you want to nerf into the ground? If so, the reward descriptions for each of the powers is nothing more than fraudulent bait and switch. How do you expect anyone to continue playing PP2 for rank in that situation? This wasn't a top 25% or top 10% or even top 10 commander contribution, it was the TOP contributor and it should still be nerfed hard???
Caveat, I of course do not know how much work actually went into earning those billions(?) in data that was traded for the apparently NANOmedicine/centauri MEGA gin - sized 200 000 merits reward.

But if exploration reward gets nerfed, it'd be silly to play for that 100% bonus, because how many BILLIONS would you make by just selling exploration data just to reach that rank 86????? I urge you to really (re-)consider and do the math on
a) how much exploration profit already is needed to get to those 100% gains at rank 86
and
b) a rough estimate on the number of hours needed to get there with exploration data, if even with peak efficiency (that most of us don't have).

Also please consider that it'd be really nice to be able to switch power and rank up high with another power in my lifetime, before I'm IRL 100 years old 🙃

After one week of PP2.0:

But it is not about playing PP2.0, it is about doing one very profitable thing for merits.

I am now at big expedition in Arcadia in Trojan Belt, and thought that I miss something after PP2.0 realse, but I am glad I will be back next moth when, I hope, everything will be more balanced.
I preffer playing than grinding.

We wont see those numbers again now the rares and exploration etc has been nerfed into the ground

You need to be able to undermine said carrier
Your power needs at least one system at exploited or higher in its Frontline bubble, a small dot will appear on the strongholds systems galmap icon when you can earn merits undermining it
