Elite Dangerous | Powerplay 2.0 Update

Not good, the reason people are farming is because its just so damn slow doing these weekly tasks or any normal PP activities, doing any normal FDEV approved PP actively would mean it would take actual years of specific PP game play to get all the PP modules, fine if your a brand new player learning the ropes and growing with the game, hardly fits with experienced players who just need a specific PP module and have already done everything they needs to do game play wise, also new players are now locked out of PVP because they can't really get Prismatic's now unless they have pledged to PP for around a year or more at this rate......the fighters at Strongholds will be next

I’m I missing something about the the powerplay module unlocks. (Barring the new one).

Haven’t people had them for years and stored the extras they’ll need?

About that....
I think you're a bit too late.
Also, you're wasting your time in trying to justify player behaviour to the CM/devs. The only reason they're monitoring this thread is to learn about more things to nerf.

This wasn't about fighting ships. It was about cheesing the Fighters for their Elite-rank merit gain. You can still fight the actual ships on Strongholds and these haven't been nerfed, they just won't be dying by the dozen to a single well-aimed salvo each.

It was important to address this because otherwise the highest merit gain available would have been undermining
I don't think you got the point of my post. It was to say that instead of nerfing merits, they could freeze the undermining control points of the systems.

And also, a dozen slfs in one salvo?? Slight exaggeration there! You can one shot ONE of them with a fully engineered setup, if you're lucky enough not to get interrupted by point defence of other ships, carrier defence etc. You need to fly flight assist off while getting a constant barrage of attacks from the carrier and all the ships around you.

It is a way to get merits relatively quickly yes, but this isn't cheesing the game. It is in a completely different ball park to the level of relogging, standing by a dataport and glitching, or the other exploits. It is a challenging thing to do, and should be rewarded. People fight elite ships to get quicker Combat rank also, should this be considered cheesing the game?

How about removing the PP modules from the ranks entirely.

Then - instead of enabling level ups - completing the weekly task list rewards you with a “power quartermaster bond” that can be redeemed at a power contact to unlock modules of your choice, permanently.

Some PP modules require just 1 QM Bond to unlock. Others as much as 3 - eg. Prismatics.

That way you have a guarantee - low but not zero effort - way to unlock the modules in a defined number of weeks that requires you do so different activities. You want Prismatics first? Save up your first three weeks of QM Bonds and they’re yours. Pack Hounds? Maybe that’s 2 bonds. That laser that is basically the Thermal Conduit experimental but worse? Just 1 of your weekly earned QM Bonds and it’s yours!

Then the insane grind for merits can be for what it was intended: influencing the galactic power struggle, alongside regular power rewards and care packages as you demonstrate more loyalty to you chosen power.

Maybe the whole purpose of Ascendancy and PP 2.0 was to annoy cmdrs into leaving the bubble? Get cmdrs out into space, exploring.

Notice the new ship is marketed as an exploration ship?

Any room for me in Colonia?

Not exactly the way to attract new/returning players or get people to engage with the mechanic. My friends never did PP 1.0 and now that it's taken a front seat, they're interested, but getting the very first module will take 4+ months at the rate they're going (i.e. no rares or SLF farming). It took me 20+ hours of grinding rares with a FC to almost get the first module. It'll take them hundreds.

"We have identified an issue where certain actions are being excessively used for Powerplay gains."
Nobody saw this coming? I mean, really? Players finding the most efficient way to make their way through excessively grindy content came as a shock to you guys? It's been a staple of video games for decades.

By all means fix the data exploit. But rares and escape pods? Really? It takes like a week minimum to get enough rares for any meaningful amount of merits.

As always, this will be an endless cycle. As you've done for the entire lifespan of the game; you'll nerf it into irrelevancy, players will move on the the new "best" method, rinse and repeat until the entire system take months to actually make any progress, and then you'll wonder why nobody engages with the content.

It was by no means perfect, but you had a good foundation with PP2.0. However, you're seemingly already determined to undermine those foundations for some reason.

You seriously want people to farm merits for the rest of their freaking lives for a handful of modules? Are you actually insane?
This is EXACTLY why players LEAVE Elite Dangerous. For this level of insanity, where you get 1000 merits for WEEKLY activity, and you need HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of merits.
You can't be serious!

theres no kind of pve content in elite dangerous that REQUIRE to have prismatic shield or pacifier cannon, only the meta-pvp build.
you can blast npc and all sort of stuff with normal fragment cannon and the blue shield.
Sure, its most commonly used in PvP, but people still want the modules.
Completionism mindstates aren't unusual, what they want them for is largely irrelevant, but i guarantee you a lot of people just want the modules lol.

Same reason so many faction-hopped before, an given the grind is now so much more severe... yeah you'll have a lot of people looking to exploit it to get the modules.

Also doesn't change the fact that there are also gonna be a lot of bad actors just wanting the "top 100" badge or to screw over a faction they don't align with.

Lets be honest thats the main reason for many people wanting to farm it. They don't give a damn about the race between the powers, they want the stuff to build their ships properly. (see; Prismatic shields)
I'm not sure. Any existing player had plenty of opportunity to get Prismatic Shields before PP 2.0. Sure it took 4 weeks, but it was minimal effort. Kinda annoying but super easy.

Honestly I'm not sure why I was doing PP 2.0. Maybe just for something different? Certainly not the rewards.

But now I feel I wasted my time. I will return to the activities I previously enjoyed.
