Elite Dangerous | Type-8 and new pre-built ships

I agree entirely with the rest of your post, but have my blinkers firmly in place and will not hear a bad word said about the Asp Scout. I love it, long range exploring in an Asp Scout is one of life's simplest pleasures.

(Sorry, was off topic - absolutely love the new updates, and really really love the T8, my new go to outpost trader! o7)
Haha, yeah, I use mine as surface prospecting vessel. Great super cruise handling, great range, and just what you need to get out there and drop an SRV.

Exactly! Lands anywhere and has a great jump range with engineering. And looks a bit like a DeTomaso Mangusta from the rear, although I might be reaching, there. Use mine for surface prospecting and simplistic deep space exploration when I want to get away from it all. Love it.

Or more which may be the point of his comment. Class 7 plus 5b takes it to 11 meaning less time required to collect
(I have universal plus two 5b's on a cutter for bio-storage pod collection for example)

Engineering Rebalancing

It's not just new ships which have been added with Update 18.08, we also have made some major changes to Engineering!

Materials

We’re increasing the number of materials you’re getting across the board from various sources. We’ve increased Material availability at Grade 4/5 farming locations by increasing the number of sources of materials and in some cases payout per source.
In the past, you’d be get between 3-6 fragments of microresources in total per site, but now we’ve increased the number of items to 30-100 microresources.

Mission Rewards

We’ve increased the engineering mats you’ll get across the board from missions. So now depending on the mission or material limit, you could get up to 24 of some materials.

Engineering Blueprints

1) Engineering is no longer random when you spin for the blueprint. If you’re at grade 5 rank with the Engineer, it will be 1 roll for a Grade 1 blueprint, 2 for a Grade 2, and so on. If you’re less than a Grade 5, it will be more spins, but it will no longer be random.

2) We’ve changed the unlock requirements on some blueprints, so you can get to work much quicker.

Odyssey Engineering Changes

The recipes for Odyssey engineering have had their material amounts reduced, combined with getting more rewards for missions and needing to spend less. Another thing that should make it easier is the rebalancing of suit carry capacity, we’ve increased capacity across all suits, with the Maverick suit seeing the biggest upgrade. For a more in depth breakdown please check out the Update notes.

Thargoid War Changes

As we get closer and closer to the potential end of the war, we’re making some adjustments to give you even more Engineering rewards for engaging. Contributing to taking over a Thargoid controlled, or invasion system will now reward engineering materials upon system completion.

All Grade 4 Raw & Grade 5 Encoded/Manufactured engineering materials are eligible as rewards, which you can trade down to whatever materials you need at a material trader. A full break down can be found in our Update Notes.

There's a problem with the T8. See if this screenshot reveals it:

Not seeing it yet? How about now?

That's right, the C2 hardpoint points directly at the cargo hatch, and sometimes subsurface missiles actually hit it and blow up.

Just make the cargo hatch open sideways instead of backwards and the problem is resolved.

That might mean we would need to fly sideways to scoop.

Hi All :)

Also, it can hit an active repair limpet even if the cargo hatch is retracted.

Possible causes, and rectification.

1. The first batch of Lakon T8's were built and completed on a Friday.
2. 'Lakon' need to refine their Quality Control ;).
3. A dastardly plot and subsequent industrial sabotage by the Empire.
4. Recall of all the T8's, and a temporary replacement with a courtesy ship, either a Panther Clipper or Tiger Trader plus an MB5 Auto mining machine, until the problems are resolved, (subject to available stock).
5....🤔...I'm still thinking...

Jack :)

There definitely are few smaller errors in T8 design. I hope they will fix it soon, since now they have much larger testing team :D (myself included ;) )

As a 'quick' fix, I guess they could swap out the animation for the SRV hanger one (splits down the middle and retracts into the ship). After all, it's the same place anyway.

Anyone know where to buy ARMOR ( 'reactive' , 'military grade' , etc. ) for the new Type-8 ship?

the Inara site only shows 1 system but its permit-locked

The catch is that while it's in the exclusive period, no stations sell it as part of normal inventory, and Inara data can be a bit unreliable as part of people with access summoning the ship seems to temporarily place it in the shipyard for them only.

The three full-outfitting stations: i Sola Prospect in Brestla (no permit, costs more than normal) ; Jameson Memorial in Shinrarta (permit, general discounts) ; Attilius Orbital in CD-43 11917 (tough permit, specific discounts) should sell the armour, though

Any station that sells the ship will (should) sell the hull armour for it.
Negative, cuz i already checked the station where i purchased ( claimed it really ) and NONE appeared in 'armor' outfitter.

yep that's ^ what i suspected but wasn't certain ...

ahhhh right, totally forgot about 'i Sola Prospect' station YES THANKS much CMDR!! phew!

I haven't docked at a station since I got my Python MkII from the ARX store but my understanding is that purchase from the ARX store also includes the ability to buy these early access ships in-game too. Armour would be available wherever sells the ship.

Where you request the ARX purchased ship to be delivered is not the same as a dock that sells that ship.

Founders access is handy ;)

Yes, correct - unfortunately, "wherever sells the ship" is virtually nowhere right now even for those with the license.
