Elite Dangerous | Update 13 Notes

Targeting the nav beacon in supercruise as a contact just gives you a slightly longer drop-out range and speed than a normal contact would.

In the Wing menu part of comms (it's been ages since I've used it, I forget where) there's an option to actually lock on to that wingmate, which will drop you out if they're in normal space and you're in supercruise from potentially 100s of Ls away. (And equally, if they're in supercruise and you're in normal space, will auto-start your FSD charging to join them)
Will the auto-drop happen at any speed / throttle setting, and if so, without damage?

My update keeps crashing to desktop.
Guess I'm not going to see this during a lunch 'hour'.
"Unhandled Exception: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Users...' because it is being used by another process."

Ah, ignore me. I have Steam and Frontier installs using the same files and Steam was already updating.

Yes to both. You also don't need to be at all picky about facing.

Couple of things to watch for while using it:
- you can have two people in a wing locked to each other, but if you do you're likely to end up chasing each other in a big circle between supercruise and normal space as both try to follow the other.
- if the person you're locked to gets successfully interdicted, you'll initiate a drop to their location ... but of course they'll drop to their interdictor's location which will be some distance away. Only activate the lock in that situation once you've confirmed they've dropped to normal space

Way back when, there was also a very weird bug or two when you were nav-locked to someone inside a rotating station cylinder while you were outside it, especially if you then tried to enter the cylinder. I think that's all been fixed long ago, but if you do see anything weird in that situation, end the nav-lock, exit the station, and try again.

Wait, why does it start you over? I'm not downloading the update yet... Did anybody get lucky and keep their progress?
I have 18 billion credits and a fleet carrier, and I just bought my first Corvette last night and buffed it before reset. No way am I losing this stuff!

no. it doesn't
as per the Hutton Guide to Surviving patch days - the poor server hamsters are busy busy and likely the server that handles your commander data is being a little slow....
Always worth reading those notes - built up through years of experience

Must be a glitch with server connections? I'm fine, no issues here. I'm using the Steam client if that matters.

okay! we're in! first, after logging in to Odyssey, having logged out on the surface (Fort Asch),
I appeared in space with no audio until about halfway thru the initial 'experience,' screen flickering / 'glitching' wildly, some elements of my EDHM_UI theme working, others the ED default (suppose I should have just set it to default before logging out, mod time out for me).
Hard to tell what is intended and what isn't, though, if I'm honest...
