Elite Dangerous | Update 18.05 | Thursday 16 May 2024

Whilst I do appreciate your endorsement for my new line of 'Thin Metallic Psionic Defence Caps' (Available now at all imaginary retailers) the downtime is an estimated frame to ensure we can do any checks that need to be done. There is every chance the update may be available sooner if the stars align or it could take longer if the server cyberhamster forgot to recharge its batteries.
:ROFLMAO:(y)

Why even transition them to open play at all? What possible good does that do to a new player?

I honestly cannot think of any activity in the game that requires playing in open other than fighting with other players. Which a beginner rather obviously is completely unable to do with a starter Sidewinder. Or even after a month of gameplay for that matter. Even teaming up with friends (for activities other than attacking other players) is better done in a private group rather than open play.

Can you name any activity that can be done in open play that cannot be done in solo or pg, which does not involve getting hosed by a min-maxed high-end billion-credit combat ship? If there are any such activities, I can't think of them.
I'd say the simple act of seeing other players and actually realising you're in the same galaxy as them because in a game world as big as this that's easy to forget. I still, ten years later, get a little thrill when I'm going about my business and notice a hollow square on the radar. I personally think when you sign up to play an mmo that choosing to switch into solo is the action a player should have to decide to make for themselves if they don't like it and that defaulting to open unless you make that choice is the right way to go. I personally don't like the alternative that you will remain in solo unless you decide to make the choice to enter open. Basically you leave features turned on and provide the option to turn them off, not the other way round. It's a very subtle difference tho and can also appreciate that others will have the opposite viewpoint.

I'd pay 5k ARX for a tin foil helmet cosmetic.
Bethesda got there first...

Price 800 Atoms in the store...

FDev is missing out on suit cosmetics - tin foil-augmented helmets, for one thing. :D
Vintage Reflect suit with the silver Dominator helmet classifies as a full-body tinfoil suit! For the ultimate personal protective equipment (PPE) against them™! Don't delay, buy today!😛

Hi :)

Saying "Greetings CMDR!" to other players before they gank you.
....My limited experience in this context is I don't even get the luxury (?) to even communicate with these 'sociable' bi-peds most of the time. I don't think these types of aliens want social pleasantries in my limited experience. At least the NPC's do communicate on a basic level, and give you a narrow choice of alternative gameplay.
I have befriended a couple of these bi-peds after they've obliterated my (unarmed) ship in the past, more to do with curiosity* on my part, some (the more unsavoury ones) I've just blocked through my own lack of patience trying to communicate (with the aim of sociable gameplay) and not getting any feedback.

* I've noticed through the 'friends / social' menu's that one or two of these (I'll be courteous here) 'Player Commanders' virtually never leave the well known areas / Systems where ganking (I don't like that word btw. for some reasons), exists on a regular basis. In fact (I've checked) the only progress in the game that they've achieved is in combat, no 'Elites' in exploration, trade or other usual areas of progression in the game.

I just accept that this is how they want to play their game, no problem to me now as there are many ways to avoid these non sociable? Commanders. My interests in the game are fairly broad. Mining, Exploration, Trade, Mission based activity, PVE Combat and sometimes interacting with other players in a constructive way. It's how I make the game constantly interesting. 🤷‍♂️
Some players as in the examples above seem to be happy narrowing their field of play to one activity it seems. I personally think their overall form of play limits them and more importantly impacts Their future style of gameplay...the term 'biting off the hand that feeds you' springs to mind here. :)

Edit...Updating! :D
Jack :)

I'm scared, it logged me off for maintenance while I was jumping from another system, now trying to go into open play/solo it says "there was a problem retrieving commander data from the server". Fingers crossed that it's temporary. :D

Second hand bug: some are reporting we can no longer synthesize since 18.05. Can someone verify?

Also, menacing flickering shadow beings are back in stations. This had been reduced significantly before Update 18 released.

It seems that the issue of SCO mode not playing any sound with some ships (such as the Dolphin) has not been fixed.

I think the sound is important. It doesn't just add immersion, but it's an auditory clue that SCO is on.
Mmm I think that wasn't in the fixes stated above 🤔

Sorry to post here but this is my last resort. There's no way to request customer support. At least for now.
Right after 18.05 update, "Continue" button is replaced with "Start" button which leads to "tutorial mission".
Please let me continue my save and please let up to create "customer ticket" as in-game "help and info" says so.

Concerning SLFs I would be happy if FDev would eventually fix the long-standing bug of NPC crew members not being promoted beyond 100% deadly.
Last time I checked my fighter pilot was Elite I.

Meeting other players and waving in a friendly way
You can do that in a PG.

They should do them as a beanie in the Merch Store.
