Elite is clearly stagnating to death.. FDEV should do this instead of too much emphasis on Thargoid content..

Of course it will depend. As a surprise to nobody, people are different :). Some people just revere Skyrim as the best thing since sliced bread, all I can say is... meh. To me, sitting in a spaceship in VR and flying from star to star is glorious. For others it is "pressing J repeatedly". Which is fine; some people love to walk from Riften to Solitude and call it "immersion". I call it boredom. Whatever floats your boat.
Indeed. But for me when I'm fortifying, or trying to get to a new POI in a largely underused supercruise lobby its empty. I get people like immersion, but I like to actually be doing something with my time.

For example, while you are loving the stars I want magnetic poles where NPCs / me can hide, mass ejections that can supercharge / damage my ship- or make more of space itself (like we have with deep space / shipping lanes but much more), with NPCs / security / smuggling all being properly dove-tailling into things.

I'm actually considering that maybe it would be better if FDev actually gave up on putting a serious long term oriented effort into Elite and just started pumping out dead-end lower effort content that's just new setpieces with new NPC ship loadouts and other things that cleverly use stuff that's already there. It worked for the azimuth saga.

I get that. Sometimes, the "immersion" isn't enough for me either. I have had moments where I fired up my VR headset, put it on, sat in my ship, and actually thought: There's nothing I want to do right now. And then I quit, put the VR headset aside, and take a break. Sometimes for two or three weeks. Any longer than that, and the itch to sit in the cockpit and just fly around gets so big I cannot ignore it anymore.

(Listen up, kids: Taking breaks is okay and actually healthy ;)).

Starfield will attract those who want to play Skyrim in space. Those who expect it to be a replacement for a space sim(-ish) game will be disappointed. Those who want to primarily fly a spaceship will probably still tend towards ED. Those who want to roleplay as a space pirate hero around whom the world revolves will play the latest Bethesda incarnation of your hero fantasy.

(Did it never irk anyone that, in Skyrim, you're not only the most important person in the universe, but also manage to become the leader of every major and minor faction?)
Did not irk me. Just made me realise that not every RPG is (early) Bioware quality and that I would have no interest in Skyrim in space. Now, whenever I get around to getting a new PC (which will probably be a looong time) I will definitely get Baldur's Gate 3.

To some ED is a way of life they can spend hours of their day on it, for most of the '84 crowd we are much older now and have work commitments that take up loads of our day. The only thing I miss is the Elite 1,2 and 3 variety of ships I don't need PvP arenas or PvE zones I want more ships to see.

With the current limited selection it feels like an arena shooter with a small selection of things to use to accomplish the tasks, yet even Unreal Tournament from 99 had loads of characters and things to do 🤔

First of all, I support OP's idea, I loved it. I guess FDev could take the best of her, her way. +1

That being said, I love Elite (EDO player here). Technical errors aside, EDO has incredible potential. But I agree with OP, this game feels "abandoned" by Fdev. And no, the Targoid war is not the solution. It's not even a first step in the solution.

I guess this game is in a coma, on life support in ICU, and the FDevs are just trying to keep him alive as long as possible, presuming his inevitable death.

It's not stagnating just because some people are losing interest. It's only their interest that's stagnating.

You contradict yourself when you invalidate someone's opinion because it is their "exclusive view of things" and at the same time, for no reason, you place yourself in a position of authority, as if your opinion could be more valid just because... it's your opinion .

If you look a little beyond the narrow field of vision of your opinions, you would be aware of the facts. Facts (and not opinions) will tell you that for a new player, Elite is "a whole universe to discover". For a veteran player, Elite gets old very quickly, because except for minor tweaks here and there, EDO is still under the hood the same game that came out in May 2021 (3 years ago).

I'm glad (sincerely) that you find the same tasks enjoyable, and doing them repetitively over and over again, because only if you like grinding (and only if you like grinding as an end in itself) can you like EDO, in its actual state.

Short answer: no.

Longer answer: a company that takes its product seriously (among other things, doesn't want to see it die) would be right now dropping news of shiny new updates to come to send the hype through the roof. I don't think Fdev is that company.

Nothing FDev can do for Elite right now could possibly compete with the hype around the launch of a long-waited Bethesda Sci-Fi RPG
Even Elite die-hards* will probably try Starfield at launch, at least for a while - depending how buggy Starfield would be at launch and how arcade would be the space flight in Starfield

*(nope not me, i'll wait for the hype to fade and the game to be 50% discounted)

I will add my answer...

Never finished it, It managed to lose me somewhere along the way.
There are solid chances it will happen with Starfield too - it depends (it may manage to get me for 1-2 months, but then again while i did get CP2077 when it was 50% discounted, i never got to install and play it, yet.)

Now... ED, on steam (that counter is a bit bigger compared with ingame counter, but all in all, over 3 accounts, i have more than 8500h in Elite)

Is this a steam numbers post?

Not me either, not interested in Skyrim in space. Quite a lot of people are right now playing Baldurs Gate 3 though. Me too, and that will quite some time to complete and then replay in a different setup

Had a few friends already ask me about playing Baldurs Gate, being a player of the previous games with fond memories and a D&D player from a long time back I am very interested, although I am pushing space on this laptop drive and would need to make a second Steam Account with a different email address, the problem with big games these days is, they are BIG!

Yes, it definitely irks me that I can become both King and Admiral in two opposing cold-war superpowers, along with being allied with every single faction allied with every superpower in as many systems as I want. Thankfully I can choose to pick only one side for the sake of roleplay, though engineering does force me to become at least partially friendly with the "enemy".

Oh wait, you were talking about SKYRIM. Ooops! Well, same applies there - I created multiple characters to pursue multiple paths. My mage did not become leader of the Companions, and my warrior did not become headmaster (sic) of the Mage's College, so no, it didn't bother me any.

I know you think you're being clever, but I'll let that slide. There's a difference. I really dislike that, in games like Skyrim, you're the unbeatable hero. The world revolves around you, you can be the leader of the thieves guild, the dark brotherhood, the head mage of the college, the companions, and the dawnguard all at the same time, while also being the Thane of everywhere, all in one playthrough. Yet for some reason, to some, Skyrim is the pinnacle of storytelling. It's ludicrous. I hope Starfield will not do that again.

ED is different. You're unimportant, just another wheel in the works, a mercenary. Basically a craftsman for hire. Nobody cares about you or even knows your name. Supporting one local faction in ED often means you get hostile with another. As for the King and Admiral thing, it's often cited as "how ludicrous ED is", but it is fairly established they are honorary titles, not military ones.
