Fiction Elite : Reclamation

Seriously though I can't even remember what I gave you, John and David Hughes. I remember Allen's pretty well though. But I think in the end I'll be happy with my box set from Dan.

Pleased to announce that the additional short story for original Kickstarter backers at the £8 and higher level is almost ready to go out. This will be provided in all the major ebook formats. The short story is called “Written in the Stars.”

Cheers,

Drew.

Drew for those who came late to the game, what opportunities will there be to buy these after the kickstarters have got theirs?

I will post an update today with details on this. Stay tuned for lunchtime, UK time.

Cheers,

Here's the final 'blurb' for the back of the paperback and hard back editions. What do you think?

Elite: Reclamation

Tantalum, a crucial raw material for hyper-drive technology, is discovered on the beautiful moon of Chione. Imperial warships move swiftly to secure it.

Outmanoeuvred, the Federation backs local insurgents in a bid to destabilise the situation and wrest back control.

The Imperial Senator and his family are brutally murdered by the overzealous rebels. Federation and Imperial fleets mass for an ultimate confrontation.

A quest for vengeance becomes the only hope for peace.

Drew.

Not bad, but too much previous background? Make it more personal? Readers connect with central characters and present events... Blurbs are short, but surprisingly hard.

I feel a bit under-qualified to comment, but I agree with T. James. I'd be well pleased with the above as the summary of a book I just bought, but I guess the blurb's audience is people deciding whether to buy the book in the first place. To be honest if I didn't know about the book I'd probably read that, think it was an awesome free-standing drabble, and put it back down with a contented sense of closure. The trailers really left you wanting more - would that approach be a better enticement to buy?

Speaking of the trailers, could you link to one with a QR code on the back of the book? Reusing the material that worked on the KS audience would be a nice cheap way to draw the reader in while they're in the bookshop, and Youtube metrics would be an equally cheap way to measure how successful you've been at getting people to even look at the back cover.

how about

THIS BOOK IS ACE... and we don't want no SPOILERS!!

Its about space n stuff!

you're welcome Drew I give my consultation without charge or royalty.. just my deep supportive love and possibly slightly creepy love too.

I like the blurb as it is.

It is short sentences and sets enough scene to engage the audience.

It is certainly true that most blurb is there to get an undecided reader to decide to buy the book, and that the audience on these forums is probably the wrong one to give a meaningful response to your question Drew, but there you go.

Yes, I really like it.

It is tricky as I was limited by word count and trying to move on a little from the trailer. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

To include a bit of the trailer and bring out the main character... how about...

Elite: Reclamation

Lady Kahina Tijani Loren; high-born of Imperial Society. They assassinated her family. They destroyed her home. Then they murdered her. Only they underestimated her too.
