Engineering and Pre-Built Ships

Thank you War for the sentiment, but please understand I am not concerned with what I achieved in game, I am more concerned with what new players might miss out on by skipping over important gameplay aspects and experiences. For example, when the Guardian modules came out I dreaded it with all my being. But after running the ruins and unlocking modules one by one, it was the most fun I had in the game to date. Yeah it sucked doing 21 jumps in my Dolphin to get out there but the rewards were worth it.
It’s FDEV designing the ships, what were you expecting?
Also an un-engineered beam laser on an AX ship serves no purpose.
Might want to rethink the T6 load out, PWS isn’t much use here as it doesn’t have hard points big enough for seismic charge launcher…keelback on the otherhand…
There is no starter zone anymore
Sure there is. On my 2nd account I'm at Dromi right now with a Rail-Beam Viper+Interdictor. I sit and wait for unsuspecting noobs in SC to rain hellfire down on their heads just for laughs.

I thought it was gone after the odyssey release, I must be confused with something else.
It may be that Horizons Live still has a starter zone - I have no idea as I've only played EDO since release.
T6 looks very nice, makes me wish to buy it (i don't need it, i rly don't, but...). PWA is ok, a hint for the new player that core mining exists. I imagine it'll be long to fill 96t with 1A collector though. Why not to move shield to 4, fit a 3A collector (or even better mining multilimpet, which is available quite everywhere anyway) and use 1 slot for DSS? A bit less cargo but much faster gathering then. Though the idea might be that ship should be capable miner but asking for tweaking after first run...
Also price wise, with Chief you get g5'd 6A thrusters, that's a lot (ok, req for Thargoids, but doesn't stop it from being a lot) and with T6 mining lasers - idk but it feels less. But maybe price is different.
Engi wise i see a lot of possibilities to make it good to go but never perfect: give engi'd B class modules (quite good but still slower+heavy), make g3 or 4 or just be modest: ship does the job, but is not perfect, just a couple of modules are engi'd and rest is unmodified. After all Ody suits are sold at g3 too.

2) I disagree with the rebuy costs being zero. That is a gankers and griefers dream ship. A zero rebuy ship will allow every new player to take their ARX ship that skipped all the in game loops, and gank/grief everyone, everywhere and have zero cost to them if and when they finally die. You cannot be serious about that. I recommend the ARX purchase is an unlock that will allow for rebuys for credits, now or later, if a Cmdr dies. If a Cmdr changes the ARX purchased ship and dies and does not have the credits to rebuy now, they would lose only the changes to the ARX unlock as the ARX unlock can be purchased for credits at any time...
3) Engineering any modules in the pre built ships is a horrible idea. That is a huge portion of your game, removing it completely by allowing G5 modules for Arx with zero rebuy is crazy bad for the long term of Elite. I suggest A rated only, and zero engineering, not even G1 and no experimental effects either. These ships are starter packs are they not, not end game content. New players will have no idea how to use the ship(s) anyway. This will not work out well
Please share details on how Engineering will change, perhaps that will help with players feedback, reactions and responses to Arx pre built ships that you apparently plan to engineer.
It worked again back in Nov and new players started to show up in there. But it's definitely broken again now.
Hey, uh , not for nothin', but does the inclusion of nanite torps on the AX pre-built mean there are going to be more titans in the future?

I have an Alt in the Starter systems as well. Docked at Dromi. However it has starter gear. Any tips on how to get better than starter gear into the starter zone?
Nice update and good change however I still think focusing engineers against playstyles is a good thing or allow each engineer to be unlocked with a trade, exploration, combat or mining requirement. A few of my friends quit Elite because they were forced to buy ships and go down paths they didn't want too.
You can do anything you want as long as you don't leave the zone after progressing too much in any dicipline. It takes much planning and trickery to be able to afford and find better gear, yet stay inside. The furthest I got without being kicked is this ship:

Even though some of announced things are controversial, I personally like that there is enough courage to make tough(er) decisions because it imo is only one way how to progress further. New content and new ways how to make it interesting for new players is imo something what can be working. Personally I hope that ED will stay active and further developed for a long time.
