Engineering and Pre-Built Ships

As we are talking ships, ship engineering and mats. Different types of play can affect the availability or ability to collect different types of mats.

How about upgrading or bringing out a new type of mats trader that can trade all (raw, manufactured and encoded) so that surpluses in one type can be traded for another type.

    • 2x 3C Gimballed Enhanced AX Multi-Cannon
    • Guardian Nanite Torpedo Pylon
    • 1E Gimballed Beam Laser
    • 2x Small Guardian Gauss Cannon with Anti-Guardian Resistance
      • This bypasses the need to unlock the Guardian Gauss Cannon from the Guardian Technology Broker, and the subsequent trip to Ram Tah to modify it with the AGZ-Resistance effect.
  • Utility Mounts
    • Heat Sink Launcher
    • Caustic Sink Launcher
    • Enhanced Xeno Scanner
    • Thargoid Pulse Neutraliser
  • Military
    • 4D Module Reinforcement Package
    • 2x 4D Hull Reinforcement Package
  • Core Internal
    • Military Grade Composite
    • 6A Power Plant
    • 6A Thrusters (G5 Dirty + Drag Drive)
    • 5A Frame Shift Drive
    • 5D Life Support
    • 6A Power Distributor
    • 4D Sensors
    • 4C Fuel Tank
  • Optional Internal
    • 6C Bi-Weave Shield Generator
    • 5D Hull Reinforcement Package
    • 4E Cargo Rack (16 capacity)
    • 2A Auto Field-Maintenance Unit
    • 1A Repair Limpet Controller
    • 1E Research Limpet Controller

After sitting down last night and digesting this Chieftain "build", I almost feel sorry for whoever buys it. They are going to be roast beef in a matter of seconds. Can't wait for the YouTube video's demonstrating it's amazing AntiXeno prowess.

P2W? not possible open ended sandbox, Pay 2 Play everyone does already, now Pay for lame LOL, there is another name for that "Grifting" If the Ships are not A Rated fully engineered, then they will be taking advantage of noobs who do not know any better.

Now FDev have got their selves between a rock and a hard place, If they go all in Gankers will have a free ship (rebuy wise) to do as they please with, so good luck to FDev trying to find a happy medium, the two Ship examples are not worth a bean, let alone real money.

I might buy one of these ships for my LR interdictor and SCO and go gank some gankers

"Only".

Yes, and evil always creeps in slowly.
Wouldn't really make a difference if they are fully engineered.

I've fully engineered most of my ships. It took literally years. I support providing a short-cut to this so that others that don't have the time or inclination can also enjoy engineered ships.

I hope the 'more predictable' part about engineering means you finally get rid of the random rolling and give engineering modules a fixed cost. The rolling is superfluous and only eats time. And materials, if you are peculiar about your max rolls.
Yes! Dear Frontier, please, please, please remove the random roll mechanics—it doesn't serve any real purpose besides eating up extra materials and triggering OCD for some commanders, including myself🙃 Fixed cost for any grade as with space suit upgrades is the best approach to engineering. Different grades are still useful and should remain; sometimes all I need is grade 1 low emissions on a power plant to help with overly hot ship without reducing power output or increasing mass too much🙂

Maybe it's also the right time to re-evaluate the usefulness of some engineering options. For example, when was the last time someone needed a shielded AFMU, whereas mods that incrase an AFMU-s repair speed at the cost of power draw or repair capacity at the cost of repair speed would be actually useful for combat and exploration respectively. Same can be said for other blueprints, like drive strengthening for engines, shielded FSD-s, kinetic resistant shields, shielded or reinforced limpet controllers. Let's make things lean and mean!

Greetings Commanders,

We wanted to give you a heads up on our plans for Engineering coming later this year and share a first look at two of the Pre-Built ships that will be hitting the Gamestore in May.

Paul, since the first article mentioned specifically "ships" and this clarification article mentions "backpack", are you able to confirm if these changes are coming to both ship and suit/gun engineering?

What is to stop someone from stripping an ARX-purchased ship of its modules (especially engineered ones), destroying that ship, replacing it, and then repeating the process, essentially farming free engineered modules?
The rebuy won't include the stripped modules? I'd expect the reason the rebuy is free is the modules and ship are tagged as a 0Cr purchase. Take them out and they won't be included in the rebuy calculation as they'll be in storage.

What engineered modules?

But to answer your question - if they want to buy the same ship 10 times, giving FDev money, only to get a pair of small guardian weapons, i would assume they can do that
And i'm not sure FD will put limit the number of ships per account that can be purchased from shops.

The chieftain is listed as having g5 engines. And i dont mean repurchasing it with arx, I mean self destructing and taking the rebuy

I think the feared model is different:

1. buy ship for ARX
2. remove any unicorn modules and replace them with default ones
3. wreck the ship
4. pay the now minimal rebuy and get the ship back in its stock form
5. go to 2.

I guess modules have to be locked to the ship? Like you can remove them, so upgrading is not prevented, but you cannot put them on other ships?

What modules will it include if I don’t opt to purchase the ones that were replaced through stripping it? Will they be free? If not, will I lose the entire ship I paid actual money for if I cant afford them?

The hull will always

The hull will always be flagged as 0Cr. Right now in the rebuy screen you can deselect modules and weapons you can't afford to buy back to only part reclaim the lost ship. As the ship itself is 0Cr you'll always be able to recover it, alongside the 0Cr pre-installed modules that were in there when you blew up. Modules you've bought and put in yourself are on you to pay for just like the current game.

If you've removed the G5 drives, that module is in storage and won't be part of the rebuy. Just like you can't manipulate the game in the way you're describing with engineered modules, storage and rebuy in its current

Thats my point, what happens if this ship is destroyed after stripping it? What modules will be installed if I deselect everything that wasnt stock?
