Another moan about engineering...
I REALLY wish FD would just decide engineers is a monotobous unenjoyable part of the game and remove it entirely. The only reason I'm engineering my ship is because other players are doing it and I don't want to be left behind incapable of competing. It's literally ruining the game for me. I'm trying to get through engineering so I can enjoy playing the game again. That can't be a good thing surely? How is that a good way to execute a game?
"The game is fairly great, let's stick something soul-crushingly boring and repetitive in it so people don't actually enjoy the experience of playing it." Why???
Tbh its a race you've decided to compete in and no one forced you.
Your opinion about the system doesn't mean it's a It's a good system.
I don't mind the engineering aspect. Sourcing the materials is awful. I can't understand who thought it would be a good element of the game. And the worst of it is you have no choice but to do this if you want to stand a chance in PvP. It's not like your building a base or something. A nice to have but I can ignore it and still enjoy PvP combat etc. I'm forced into playing a game I'm currently hating so I can get through it and get to a game I love. I just hope my patience holds out and I don't lose it with the game for good.
I disagree. You can't compete in PvP without it. So I am forced to.
Aaand there it is. The stock response for anyone who dares criticise any part of ED. I paid for the game the same as you. I have every right to want to be able to enjoy it as well. If you don't have constructive contribution then it's best you don't engage in the thread tbh.
I don't know. Ask them.
Are you deliberately missing the point? Yes, if you're being pedantic no-one forced anyone to do it. But It's obviously not that simple. If I want to play the game (which will involve pvp) I cannot do so without engineering. So basically, you're saying I just shouldn't play the game. So one aspect - gathering materials - is so dull and wide reaching that It's forcing someone like me off the game entirely when there are a number of other elements I enjoy very much. That is not good design.

The only part of the game where engineering is a must-have is freeform PvP, where there is a compelling desire to have the best gear to match the hypothetical enemy Cmdr, and the 3.0 changes mean it should be much less of a hassle to get that 'top-tier' gear.
I can understand how a player can become fixated on the progression ladder, but outside of freeform PvP there is no rush. Rather than worrying that your gear isn't the best instead set a minimum standard you want to achieve and consider instead what you want that ship to be able to do![]()
Thank you for your tautology.
Oh yeah? Tell that to the NPC bulletsponges that make every vanilla gun feel like peashooters.
