Apparently it's not an actual cobra
"Cobra" isn't a specifically scientific designation, it's a common name applied to snakes with ventral hoods as I understand it.

I won't say you're wrong because, being honest, I'm too lazy today to dig deeper and find out the facts of the matter, but according to a cursory look at Wikipedia at least it is still considered one of the cobras, even if it belongs to its own genus.

Understandable. But I also chose the cobra because I think it'd be more popular than the mountain chicken.

As you said, cobras are known for their hoods, but true cobras are of the genus Naja. Another "cobra" is the coral snake, sometimes called an American cobra.
